Even if it's not the same reason as her, I also feel that way when people talk about Nier if only because its fanbase has elevated this decent but deeply flawed game to some immaculate level of greatness that it's undeserving of. There's only so many times I can hear people gush about now "important" the game is without immediately wanting to roll my eyes.

Yakuza and Nier are JRPGs in my mind. But I feel like they forgot about Persona for this award (The way the plan unfolds is one of the best moments), and Divinity OS was definitely top 3 multiplayer at least. Maybe they didn't play that one, not sure.

I think this is maybe one of the most subjective categories, so I guess we can't be too "wtf?" about it, but my subjective opinion is that any list that omits the New Donk City moment is objectively incorrect. :P

I watched someone win a PUBG match, and Chicken Dinner is not a moment. Nothing happens, other than the screen freezing and the words appearing on screen. If anything it’s a disappointment of a moment, not to mention being a stupid reference.

It's the build up to it. I don't necessarily agree with it being top 3, but those last few minutes in a PUBG match is the "moment". When there's only 5 people left and you know any move you make can be your last, your heart pounding in your chest as you make the final kill. It definitely sticks with you. I believe it's something that has to be experienced. Watching another person win doesn't have nearly the same effect.

Ech, the PUBG one is so lame. This isn't me claiming I'm amazing at that game, but I played 3 rounds of it, and won the 2nd one. I know they've gone gaga over it all year, and I'm not surprised it's on their list, but "being okay at a multiplayer shooter" doesn't feel like that great of a moment to me.

I'm with Abby on thinking Nier isn't the next coming like everyone else, also I would have totally picked the ending of odyssey as best moments. That ending is by far one of the best endings to a mario game I've ever experienced.

MrBrockarock automata is one of the best culminations of a game ever. It’s also one of those things that Taro wanted to do where the ending of E is most impactful to the player, somewhat meaningless if you just watch it.

I disagree. That game failed to grab me. It is incredibly ethereal and not a world that grasped me. Therefore, I don't understand how everyone seems to love it as much as they do.

that's your fault, not the game's fault. Nier has a lot of cool stuff going on and if you and Abby can't quite read it, oh well. Mario is just a feel good gamey ass game where pressing the buttons feel nice and excited the part of your brain that like to see something happen when you press something. Nier goes down the deep well of the human soul and what makes you sit on the counch wondering what it means to be a person and what are you gonna about it in your life - if you can read it proper.

nier automata: -has some weird creative moments -has cool music everything else about that game sucks the characters are like mid-tier serial anime. you want to talk about padded open world design and bland sidequests, that's the game right there. it does have "deep" themes, or at least as deep as any philosophically minded sci-fi, and it has twists, which apparently anything with twists is instantly genius, but that doesn't like give it a pass for being a mediocre overwritten anime action rpg most of the time one is playing it
