The book George RR Martin is finishing ( The Winds of Winter) is the finishing his version of events of seasons 6-8. HOTD was from a book earlier in the series called Fire and Blood, about the Targaryen Civil War almost 200 years before the events in GoT.

The White Walkers are said to have been gone for ‘thousands' of years, not 'a thousand’ years, a huge difference by an order of magnitude. Not sure if they mention it in the show, but the books mentions about 8000 years ago, so the are talking not about historical events, but prehistorical, or even mythological ones.

Omg South Park three parter is freaking hilarious!!! There’s a Red Robin wedding and the army of the dead is all the day after thanksgiving shoppers and the security at the mall is the nights watch. GRRM is obsessed with wieners and they are constantly waiting for dragons to show up. AND there is a ton of discussions of betrayal in the garden of betrayal by cartman visiting someone’s backyard…

There is at least one reaction channel that watched HotD first, and then moved on to GoT. I don't think it spoiled them, just made them more enthusiastic about the parent show. (It's Spartan and Pudgey.) Grabbed the first fifteen minutes during my lunch break, will watch the rest when I get home. You're a very professional outfit and I've enjoyed the discussion so far. Is the first episode a hook? I would say emphatically yes, Bran getting pushed off the tower gets everyone on the edge of their seats, I would say. And thank you for bringing up GRRM, I hope he will get further mentions as we go. Most reactors don't know the books. (Much later.) Oh, I kept it on in the background. On interesting thing, you all seem to see some sort of incestuous thing going on between Viserys and Dany. I've heard other people say this as well and it puzzles me. He shows no more sexual interest in her than he would a horse he was trying to sell, prodding her this way and that, 'you still slouch'. And then comes the big one, how he'd let the whole tribe $£%! her, all 40 thousand men and their horses too'. She's a horse, she's a slave, he's not in the least bit attracted to her. Well, I certainly don't see it. And he's never acted on the urge, if it's there! Anyhow, I like these discussions and look forward to the next one.

Yes I wish the finals seasons timeline was put into more seasons, but they waited over a DECADE for Martin to release the next book. They caught up and passed him & there is to this day NO realistic release date. They had to wrap up. Anyone that claims the ending doesn't align with all the foundation of the previous seasons (and books) including prophecy AND Martin's infamous "if you think this story has a happy ending your haven't been paying attention", they are blind.

Unfortunately in one scene of GOT it gave us viewers who have now watched HOD a big spoiler that will happen I'm assuming in season 2 of HOD, but obviously that wasn't intentional because the writers wouldn't had know HOD would be made into a TV show, so that kind of sucks. It's not the greatest show of all time, but for much of its run, it was One of the greatest shows of all time. I'd still put The Wire ahead of GoT. Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Sopranos, too. I put GoT with The Walking Dead and the re-make of Battlestar Galactica - they all started out extremely strong, and at some point, the wheels just fell off.

I personally loved a few episodes in Season 8…until I didn’t. I think the one episode that was called particularly too dark (though it was perfectly fine for me on my tv) was actually really great though I wish that two particular characters played a bigger role. One I wish’s role was explained further why they were doing what they were doing. Another I wish would have played a bigger role that connected to the previous character im talking about. I know people had issues with the character whose actions ended the episode I’ll say…but I personally enjoyed that their previous experiences made more sense.

Why in the world did they keep telling him characters are "important" or will "be in x season"? Those create huge spoilers.

There are some spoilers of HOTD in GoT. I think as long as you watch HOTD after season 3 of GoT you're good.
