I hope she doesn't do this in the books but if she does we'll be able to read what's going on inside her head since we'll be reading her POV chapters in the next two books. Dan and Dave also could've altered the synopsis of George's ending, maybe she'll burn kings landing because of white walkers, or maybe she just burns the red keep or hell maybe she does it like she does in the show because she ends up snapping but all I know is I just can't wait to find out.

The best Dragon Lords typically were not wanton destroyers. Aegon didn't destroy everything, yet people use him as their prime example. Generally, speaking they never really expanded past Westeros except with the wars with Dorne and the step stones. They also assimilated to the Westerosi culture were the Andals dominated the culture to the point were you don't know who died of natural causes. Maesters and Septums are way more terrifying than most Targaryens.

The only part of Dany's personality that you can describe as crazy is her believe that the Iron Throne is hers by birthright - something she takes for granted. The only moment in the story she considers herself not beeing worthy of the throne is in Mereen and this forms her decision to take the opportunity and stay in order to learn to rule. But this is not going well and even her story in the books looks like she will eventually go the "Fire & Blood" route to solve the problems she is facing in Mereen. I think the only way Dany can go crazy is if you push her into a corner and make her decide to either abandon her claim on the throne or kill thousands of people. That would be her heart in conflict with herself - giving her best to be a good person vs. her irrational believe the throne is hers. They tried to go that route in the show, but the setup for this dilemma failed spectacularly.

Imagine your city is ruled by an uneducated, inexperienced girl who thinks she is a demi-goddess (by the way the Lannister twins thought they were gods, too, it helped a lot, right). It really did come out of nowhere. One thing in the finale that annoyed me was Arya's indignation. Like girl, you murdered a guys sons and fed them to him in a meat pie and then proceeded to kill his whole family. I know the Frey's were monsters and had it coming but suddenly everyone acting like Dany was bad in this monstrous world threw me off. Some of Dany's actions were brutal but up until her destroying King's Landing, they were not at all out of the ordinary for a ruler at war and for the most part the things she did do were not nearly as brutal and calculating as Tywin, as vindictive as Cersei or as grotesque as Ramsy. Hell, goody two shoes Jon Snow murdered a 13 year old boy without a thought and no one cares. But because D&D did not map this out well enough to show her downfall into a mad tyrant, they instead hold Dany to this insanely high standard that when she does not meet it immediately point out that she's nuts.

@@andrewprofitt6898 that's true and the book makes a better case for questioning her sanity than the show. Knowing that they were going for the heel turn in the show, it might have been better for them to keep some of those mystical elements like Dany's visions or Quaith in the show so we had more reason to question hee mental health. The books also do a great job of showing that Dany is not even a fan of the political realities of ruling and much prefers to conquer and crush her opposition. She gets the peace she wants in Mereen and is totally turned off by it and hates it. Her teetering on the edge of being a queen and a dragon is told really well with lots of symbolism and character development. Unfortunately the show cuts so much of that plotline that all we see is a well meaning woman in over her head who solves her biggest issue with simple violence and then leaves.

@jenniferaguilera2087
@jenniferaguilera2087 5 жыл бұрын
yeah, she's not mad at all, they won't find forshadowing for her going mad. She's always struggling between being mhysa and a dragon. She loves being adored as everyone's mother but she won't get that everywhere and she also loves being a dragon, like many of her ancestors and fire and blood gets the job done pretty easily. She has too much power for her own sake, and had to constantly restrict herself and her impulses. She will bring destruction and will end up like in the show, but because she likes it better, because she doesn't want to look back and face the ugly consequences of her actions and just want to keep going to get the Iron Throne. It's bad but it's not madness. This is the conclusion of an essay written in 2013 and praised by Martin who said about the author "finally someone who gets it": (meereeneseblot.wordpress.com/2013/10/05/untangling-the-meereenese-knot-part-iv-a-darker-daenerys/) "No. You are the blood of the dragon. The whispering was growing fainter, as if Ser Jorah were falling farther behind. Dragons plant no trees. Remember that. Remember who you are, what you were made to be. Remember your words. “Fire and Blood,” Daenerys told the swaying grass. (DANY X) And there it is. A rejection of Meereen. A rejection of peace. A rejection of bending over backward to protect innocent life. A rejection of “planting trees.” And instead, an embrace of vague, violent rhetoric about who she is “made to be” - and her words, “fire and blood.” Since the first book, Dany has been tormented by the innocent lives lost when she unleashes violence and war. Now, she has apparently resolved to stop letting all this bother her. Her new “fire and blood” approach just seems likely to lead to many more Astapors and thousands more Hazzeas. But in this chapter Dany seems prepared to write them off, as sad but necessary collateral damage of her embracing her true “dragon” self and who she was “made to be.” The dragons, and Dany’s own violent impulses, will no longer be chained. She has given into her greatest fear - herself. This is not to say Dany will become some cackling, one-dimensional “evil” villain. She will surely continue to care about those she loves, use violence against some people who legitimately deserve it, and free some more slaves if she happens to come across them. But now she wants to go to Westeros. And that’s particularly interesting because, so far in the series, Dany’s violent methods and ignoble tactics have often been palatable to the reader because they were used against brutal and murderous slavers, for seemingly noble ends. But there are no slaves to free in Westeros. It seems that Martin started off by giving Dany a seeming moral justification for her violence, that he always later planned to undercut. Now, Dany’s in it for herself - for her own power, for her own throne, and for becoming who she’s made to be, and woe to anyone who gets in her way. This is the tragedy of Dany. She achieved peace. And then she decided war felt better to her. Overall the purpose of the Meereen arc was to transform Dany into a much darker character. With that in mind, so many of the most-criticized aspects of this plotline make a great deal more sense. Our characters are supposed to be confused and frustrated about Meereenese politics. They are supposed to hate the city and conclude that staying there is a waste of time. They are supposed to feel this generic distrust for everyone, and to fail to grasp that their peaces were actually quite successful. Dany is supposed to conclude - wrongly - that her behavior through most of the book was silly and foolish. And if you came away with those impressions too, it’s perfectly understandable. But when you look past the unreliable narrator and POV-character bias, Martin’s aim becomes clear. The whole plotline is designed to maneuver Dany into a mental place where she’ll decide to sideline her concerns for innocent life, and take what she wants with fire and blood. Martin’s triumph is in handling this character development in such a natural and organic way. He gives Dany as much agency as he can - her hand is never truly forced by the Harpy or slavers. He presents her with incredibly difficult situations, places her core values into conflict, and makes her choose. Her choices first go one way - then another. Now, the transformation is complete. The Dany we knew at the end of ASOS is gone. The one who reaches Westeros will be a very different person. The dragons are now unchained, and the gloves are off. "

@@christinesarkis4029 mmmm I'm not sure we won't get something similar. It has to get to a point where we can't justify her actions anymore (there's people who justify what she did in the show, so anything she does in the books has to be clearly wrong or there'll be no point imo) We've been told her story only from her pov, her version, her own experience. Her enemies and the people she ruled didn't have one. We didn't know much about them or what they thought about her from their own pov, how they perceived her actions, how they affected them. Only what they told her or she heard or deemed important. That's going to change when she gets to Westeros. We already know the people there, most already like them and some characters there are as important as she is to the story. We will get their opinions about her and how she affects them and the people they care about. She's the hero of her own story but will she be the hero in Bran or Sansa Brienne or Arya's story too? Imo, letting us see only her pov had a point. Martin wanted us to root for her so we would later be horrified at her and he's testing us, trying to make us see how far are we capable of going to follow a tyrant, how easily we can be deluded by them, by a sad backstory, by good intentions, by seeing them struggle and grow and achieve the impossible. Some people are convinced she would never harm innocents, but she already did, before getting to Westeros... they just didn't care about them enough to consider them innocents or to even remember them. So, it's not just about what she does, but also about how we see it.

Most of Dany's story is about achieving a victory when all seems lost. Sure she probably did have the devils luck in a lot of instances, but she also took what little resources she had, and used them to squeeze out a victory when most wouldn't be able to. She always loses some kind of power, sometimes a lot, sometimes a little, but she always finds a way. It's a pretty inspiring story when you think about it. A begger would be queen to what she is now. Another thing I was wondering. Was her son the price for Drogo, or herself? You could reason that her sons life that was lost was the price for her to live. Also the 3 lifes, for the dragons, does it matter when/where/order/etc? Because you could reason that Viserys was one, because by the time of the pyre Drogo was dead, a mercy kill by Dany, and Dany's boy dead at birth, and then the witch at the pyre, being the only living sacrifice to the flames. Is it a 3 to 1 for these 3 dragons to hatch? Now in the case for madness, if you've ever experienced severe depression, it feels like you are going insane, at many times during a bout of severe depression, and Dany having just had the heartbreak that only an expectant mother who miscarried can know, and the brain dead husband she was left with, it's entirely reasonable that she was mad at the time of the pyre. While the witch did bet on Drogo not listening to her complex way to heal him, I think she was justified in what she did to him, Dany didn't really save her, she just stopped more of what already happened to her. Without any real justice for her fellow village people whom she had lived with. It's not like Dany held a trial, and the witch was found guilty and sentenced to die by fire, no, Dany chose vengeance over justice. Chaos over peace. While understandable, and I was rooting for her to do it, it is however, at it's core a decision driven by madness. While this instance isn't enough to show anything for the future, it does show than anyone for good or ill, is capable of making decisions when in emotional and mental turmoil.

That's why is even more tragic. She isn't mad, she's just horribly wrong. Breaking the wheel isn't 'kneeling in HER new world or dying in the old one'. I think she will continue to become more and more single minded and think that ANYTHING is worth the price to get her vision of the world to come to fruition. Especially if she does begin losing more counselors and friends, her goal of breaking the wheel will become all she has. At the very least she won't end up on the iron throne in some perfect claiming of her long hard fought goal.

In short, no I don't see her going crazy however, she is clearly following a path towards tyranny reinforced by self-righteousness and grandiosity. In long: Dany going "crazy" is just a very simplistic (and misleading) term that show-runners and some fans have chosen to describe and explain Dany's story arc and ending and the way it was depicted in season 8 was so rushed that in a way enforced this "mad queen" idea. However, her narrative (both in the books and in the show for the most part) encompasses many literally themes over the course of the story (including underdog story, coming of age, survival, love, power and corruption, change versus tradition, disillusionment and dreams, empowerment, Illusion of power, war, betrayal etc.) that reducing it into the "going crazy" idea just doesn't do justice to her. Add to that all the mystery, fantasy and magic elements of her story such as dragons, Quaith's mysterious effects and her dreams and you end up with the brilliance of one of the main characters GRRM has created. However, if I want to combine, trim and squeeze Dany’s seemingly ‘mad queen’ story into one very long sentence, I would come up with something like this: “an empowerment story about a female underdog that, with the help of some obvious and some mysterious forces, fights her way to the top and while having some very noble intentions (at least in her own mind and in her fans’ inside and outside the story) ends up being a tyrant (posing as a liberator as many tyrants in real world do) due to her sense of entitlement that she gained from her brother, self-righteousness and grandiosity that she gained from her nuclear arsenal, miraculous achievements and her followers’ praise, devotion and even worship. She is finally betrayed by her closest allies, friends and lover.” D&D surely fucked up all that but George will not! So please don’t look for the signs and foreshadowing of her eventual sociopathy because you will not find many (or any). On the other hand, if you want to focus on empowerment, noble intentions and change versus tradition parts of her story and ignore the rest, it is your own choice but don't say they are not out there ,"you simply haven't been paying attention".

Dani moved multiple times. Was beaten and verbally abused. Then she was sold to a foreign tribal lord who didn't even speak her language. Yes, she was a survivor. However, different people react differently to immense stress depending on their psyche. She had the components of a classic Hitler if you look at his formative years. Maybe if the events she went through in the west hadn't happened things would have turned out differently.

The whole " Mad Queen" gained force by a simple exchange between GRRM and the guy of the Meereeneese B lot- GRRM commended him for ONE essay he wrote, about Daenerys facing adversity in Westeros as, he put it" westeros has no slaves to free" ( hey, but has enough lords treating servants as sheep) and GRRM said that " he got it". That is it. Then the guy went on essay after essay speaking about Dany´s " mad turn" and I myself read an exchange of him and Race for the Iron thrones where he basically says " I am right, she is mad, GRRM confirmed it" when GRRM did not. If you look closely, you will see two characters with magic in their veins doing strange things: dany and Bran. Dany is guided by dreams and we know Qaith is speaking to her. So , yes, she hears voices?! But is this REALLY madness in the context of a world like this? Dany is a teeanger with great insight and wise beyond her years. She is ALWAYS second guessing herself, questioning about her nature and that of the dragons, who bring destruction- she is, in other words SELF AWARE. Can you say the same for Brandon? No, you cannot- he is a child for starters, but even so, he is a spoiled boy who sees no problem into slipping into the mind of Hodor or , possibly, Meera. I love your videos and, although I disagree about Jon´s parentage( I do, however, think it would be far more interesting to the story if either he is the trueborn son of Ashara and Ned OR the bastard of Lyanna and Rhaegar) , I find that you have a good insight into the true motives and motivations of the characters and looking forward to your Dany´s videos. So, discarding schizophrenia ( the voices she hears are from Qaith), Daenerys, like many Targ women, has battled serious depression. Now, if I am correct ( and I agree with Steven Attewell on this) the producers changed the tone, went for endgame as " who dies and who lives" and opted to reverse the order of the facts and downplay the White Walkers. You have the final enemy- the cold- or the environmental element, and the dragons, which can be read as a metaphor for nuclear weapons. Daenerys is frustraded NOT by peace ( like the Meereenese Blot guy says) but by COPROMISING t the point she has slaves being sold at the doors of Meereen- so, that is to say, she feels terrible about having to deal with the slavers to get this " peace." Timeline appears to be: she unites the Khlasar, solves Meeeen, burns Volantis, arrives at KL and confronts FAegon. Jon Snow might be a bastard in the books. In the show, DnD gave hima nd Cersei the Faegon plotline, Timeline, Dany arrives at KL, fights the very popular Aegon and either by accident, or because she loses control of one her dragons, the wildfire is ignited and she watches the city burns ( Cersei might be a hostage for Faegon there and Jaime might be the Valonqar, killing off Cersei who is tryng to kill all her enemies with wildfire, just to see the city burns too) It will be a gray situation, not Hitler Dany. Some people will say she is crazy and burnt the city on purpose- others will not be that sure. Depressed, as GRRM already showed us she could be, she might conclude that indeed, the dragons are monsters, that so she is, and go North to, at least, put them to good use? Sorry for the long comment- yes, I believe DnD might have been TOLD who dies and who lives and they were ONLY faithful to that. This is the reason why we had Daniel Weiss APOLOGISING to GRRM -something that went unoticed, so please, spread it: "“George, thank you for letting us take your children into our care, sorry we didn’t treat them better,” www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/inside-game-of-thrones-season-8-nyc-premiere-radio-city

I absolutely love the the perfection of Daenerys in your view....priceless! What people do in their beginnings and what happens to them over their lives, changes them, affects them. Basing your affirmations of her goodness in her beginnings is not wise. People change. GRRM has said countless times, his characters are not white or black, not good or evil, but grey and a mix of both. In your series, she is pure, good and benevolent. She is traveling with Dothraki, men that have killed, enslaved, raped , stolen yet its ok! now they kill the bad masters. If she was true to her words, her armies would not be composed of such people, of sellswords. She's just more of the same. Remember, the road to evil is paved with good intentions. That's Dany! She is inspired by Genghis for heavens sake! You choose passages to fit ypour narrative....yet you refuse to see the overall picture.

You completely missed the point of this video. It’s part one. It covers her early storyline and there’s a zero percent chance that Dany is inspired by Genghis Khan. You literally just made that up in an effort to add credibility to your claim. Making things up doesn’t add credence to anything. There are pretty obvious parallels between the Mongols and the Dothraki, but that’s not in any way related to Dany.

Drogo had to kill him for the utter disrespect he showed him in front of everyone. Dany knew this and accepted what was coming. If there was something she could have done to save him I guarantee she would have, but she knew there was nothing she could do. This foreshadows nothing and Dumb and Dumber suck more than anything. If for whatever reason Dany does what she did in the show in the books there will be lead up to it, and an actual reason given by GRRM.

An orphan with a sociopathic brother as her only confident for most of her life, who came into power via her heritage (however powder-keg her genes are; that double-edge 'targaryan advantage') - and as a pawn. She did not earn her 'babies'; they were a gift ....which begs the most interesting Q: was the gifter oblivious to the eggs' potential/reality? -Two Qs of a lesser degree: 1) to what extent was/has Dany EVER had in determining her destiny? 2) Is she not another idealistic youth in a unique position, or is she much more? Yeah "the man" was her brother though. Ned executing a stranger had an impact on him whereas with Dany she moves on quite rapidly. My view of Dany is that she has no true empathy. @@katiePetsy When you're talking about executing people, I don't think family relation makes much difference. Plus her brother never behaved like much of a brother. He abused her for years, and threatened to murder her and her baby. Danaerys was never a slave, and yet she was able to empathize with slaves. But when it comes right down to it, there aren't many characters in the story that empathize with people who have experiences different than theirs. Feudalism incentivized people to do what was expected of them instead of what was right, which is why you see Ned Stark beheading a man for not keeping his word. Ned also planned to marry Arya off to some guy she didn't know regardless of what Arya thought of it, because that's what was expected.

@@StannisHarlock I think family is important so I do see a difference. Viserys was all she had and even though he was cruel he did keep her alive. Martin makes it very clear that he was drunk, jealous and desperate when he threatened her. Episode 5 had Dany drunk with power, jealous of the love Jon received and desperate to win- she went mad like her brother rather than her father. When Dany first met Drogo in the book she was all dressed up and had a collar put around her neck. She felt uneasy looking at the slaves as she realised she had as much influence as them. So in that regard she could empathise with slavery. Once she frees them what does she do? Nothing, as of the last book disease and hunger are ravaging the freed slaves. I don't think she truly cares for them as she is "the dragon". As for Ned and Arya, when she says she's not a lady does he slap her down and make wedding plans? No he arranges fighting lessons that make her happy. Ned has true empathy, Dany does not.

I feel like maybe it's because she's a woman people think she's mad because she isn't hysterical when her brother is killed. Sir Jorah isn't mad or foreshadowed as such because he doesn't bat an eye. Drogo isn't mad for killing him in the manner he did. They are just warriors doing what warriors do. It's strange we've progressed so far and it's gotten better but if a woman doesn't react in line with what people think they are cold, heartless, or hysterical. Had she lost her shit when her brother died people would say that was a hint to her madness.

What makes the show's handling of Daenerys so offensive is that they betrayed the core aspects of her character's journey just to check the "mAd QuEeN" box at the very end. Daenerys' struggle as a character has always been about being compassionate to the suffering of innocent people, and struggling to find solutions to help those people WITHOUT becoming cruel or destroying her own kingdom. She wouldn't just kill an entire city full of people, especially of women and children, without batting an eyelash or showing some sort of regret over it. That's NEVER been her character. People who say "lol, Dany fans just weren't paying attention. She's always been evil and crazy" ignore the fact that if that were the case, Daenerys would've taken over Westeros the first chance she got using her armies and her dragons rather than trying to listen to people like Tyrion to opt for more civil solutions at first. The showrunners seem to have forgotten that fact based on the bullshit speech they had Tyrion give Jon about her.

Daenerys always drew her line at her child in the first book. Like she was okay with people being out to kill her but she was like I'll never let them hurt rhaego. Viserys was dead to her when he said he would cut rhaego out of her. I think the only thing that could drag Daenerys to that level of madness is if the people of kings landing want to hurt her (second) child. The only contradiction to this that I can find is that it's not clear if she knew the consequences of asking mirri maz duurs help before hand as it's never explored. She just says if I look back I'm lost. As for jon killing Dany I truly think it would be amazing if that was reversed aka Dany killing Jon. Idk if this fits the sstory but think D&D could try that after Arya kills the night king sth about the magic around the resurrection of Jon snow makes him the night king. I think that showing her helpless and her having to take a call between her life (and her child's ofc coz pregs) and Jon snow as a call back to her decision with drogo. Plus it's also closer to azor ahai story. Losing jon would make her very vulnerable emotionally and if missandei is killed and the people are against her child she would probably burn the city. In my head this is the only way Dany would do what she did in season 8

lee Roberts did you really read the books or are you talking show here? You can’t compare medieval times to todays understanding of human rights. You have to situate things in time and space in order to write a good story. Yes the former slaves chose to fight with her because she wanted to end slavery all over. It was a cause they believed was worth fighting for, which is already a step over the banner men at Westeros who are forced to fight for their liege Lords. Why is Daenerys a slave master and the Lords of Westeros are not? Double standard? How would you have resolved the slavers issue? In medieval times? She did nothing that Tywin Lannister didn’t do. That Robert Baratheon didn’t do. That Roose Bolton didn’t do. And no one called them mad. And no, I’m not talking about burning KL because we are talking BOOKS here and not show nonsense. Cruel is to do cruelty to innocents. To do the same thing to the ones that caused cruelty is justice, by medieval standards. And this is a medieval story.

She didn't hate him though. She was eerily calm, near indifferent. She holds the mixed feelings of loyalty to her only family and lack of respect and fear back and uses the absolute that her brother 'wasn't a dragon' implying otherwise he magically wouldn't have been burned and that she, is more a dragon than he. While yes, Dany at this point is a much better human being than her brother, it is this slow easy to default to excuse of 'my justice is righteous because if those I punish were better or like me, I wouldn't be forced to eliminate them'. You begin to stop using mercy, grace, and suddenly you are saying things like kneel in her new world or die in the old one. Her new world. Not breaking the wheel and disputing the system. A new system. A better system. Her system. Because she is 'good'. Her system couldn't be corrupted. Sacrifice is necessary. And instead of becoming literally mad, Dany is simply just wrong. Horribly wrong, single-minded in her quest, trying to justify why did she come all this way only too lose those she loves most? These moments are defining. For Jon, at least in the show, he listens to Davos even he was tired of fighting, not just physically but in spirit. Davos: You go on. You fight for as long as you can. You clean up as much of the shit as you can. Jon: I don't know how to do that. I thought I did, but...I failed. Davos: Good. Now go fail again again. Dany does this as well in many situations. But it's easy when life gets harder than you can imaging in an already hard life to not give in and become 'more of the same'. Dany isn't pure evil or mad. Not 'the dragon'. She's just a flawed human.

I think the word madness doesn’t make any sense. I mean, madness is a very broad concept, so, to me, the question ‘is Dany becoming mad?’ is senseless. I think we need to put the event in the right context: she is a little more than a child, whose family is extinct, as far as she knows. Every day of her life she copes with a brutal world, in which you sometimes have to make difficult decisions in order to survive. Her story is a lot about loss and loneliness.

Tywin ordered the death of all Targaryens, ordered the end of house Reyne, and ordered the death of all Starks and Northmen at the red wedding. He even condemned his own son to death. Yet no one ever speaks a word about his craziness, in fact, he gets praised! I do not care if Dany did or did not feel conflicted about the death of Viserys, being a murderer does not make you crazy. Dany killed 1 million people in KL, so what? Being a murderer does not make you crazy. Aerys didn't in fact burn the city, he didn't kill the people of KL, then by the show's own logic he should not be the mad king. Yet he is, the mad label fits him because we get multiple accounts spanning years describing his crazy erratic behavior, and most of it had very little to do with murdering people because BEING A MURDERER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING CRAZY. Murdering people in cold blood makes you a...can you guess? A MURDERER. Being mad is not expressed only, if ever, by an uncontrollable desire to kill people.

And since Dany is absolutely going to be necessary to defeat the Others, it will not be workable to have Jon murder her for destroying the city.

People who only watched the show have no idea just how powerful greenseing is, and dragon dreamers are kind of the valyrian variety of green seers, those dreams are the reason House Targaryen survived the Doom in the first place, and I think Aegon I also had them, if I'm not mistaken, the dreams are what led him to go on with the conquest. Rhaegar also seems to have had the dreams and it was that which made him so obssessed with the prophecies to begin with. The fact that the show cuts out basically any kind of internal monologue scene just diminishes the quality of the story seeing as how most of the magic events are told/explained either from these monologues or from lesser characters' povs. D&D are secretly maesters of the citadel, hellbent on their conspiracy to erase magic from the world.

If your doing a series on if Dany will become the "Mad Queen" in the books , you should first establish what is meant by "Mad Queen". Is it becoming like Aerys II, being delusional and insane? Or is "Mad Queen" just short hand for turning into a much darker/morally corrupt figure? I feel like the distinction is important to make, one is a much easier sell than the other. Also, we know that GRRM gave D&D basic bullet points on how he plans on ending some character and story arcs. Knowing how much D&D love fan service (think Arya killing the Freys, and Cleganebowl) and also morally whitewashing characters ( Dany allowing the wineseller and his daughters to be tortured by the Shavepate, being cut from the show/ Also cutting morally questionable Tyrion from ADWD); the most important question is why would D&D end Dany's character arc this way if not told by GRRM? Based on what we know about D&D if they could come up with an original show only ending that is separate from what GRRM told them, they would have ended Dany's arc with her marrying Jon or dying giving birth to her and Jon's baby, or something with a lot of fan service. This alone makes me think that Dany's ending in the books will be very dark, I know this is only part 1 but I hope you guys address this point in your video series.

I feel like Dany won’t go crazy in the books. Slaver’s Bay might blow up in her face causing her to leave in disgust instead of with the High note at the end of Season 6. She’ll likely be more cynical and jaded as a result of this. She might actually be more ruthless in Westeros like here own ancestor. But believing fAegon to be a pretender she deposed him in a second Dance, but the Wildfire beneath Kings Landing destroy the city. Everyone one Westeros hates Dany because she deposed the popular Aegon VI. Everyone believed he was the true King and Dany is the usurper. Dany is percieved to be a Mad Queen by the Westerosj with here Unsullied and Dothraki army.

Cansu Capkinci I’m inclined to agree, honestly, I think what cinches it is the willingness to sell Dany Viserys has, even if he hated her for killing Rhaella on birth I think that he would want to keep her as his own wife, the true blood of Old Valyria is said to be powerful, and many pretend. I’ve always had a weird thought that she was Ned and Ashara’s babe, maybe she was secreted onto Viserys and Darry from the stepstonnes around Dorne by someone? *also to clarify I assume the silver hair and purple eyes are recessive traits in Daynes, since Gerold Dayne has a streak or shock of white in his dark hair

I personally don't have a problem with Dany doing what she does. I have a big problem with the execution of it and while in the show and in the books she shows a real brutal side to her personality and a lot of self righteousness, it does not make up for this turn of events. The show leaves out a lot of her more compassionate actions like her treating the plague victims, or her not harming the children of the masters of Mereen. I enjoy a fall to the dark side story that shows how much power can corrupt but such a thing has to be done carefully. The show these past few seasons is constantly telling us different things. We are at one point supposed to view Dany not listening to her advisors as a sign of madness, while at the same time showing all of her advisors to be somewhat incompetent and indicating that had she trusted her gut things would be a lot better off. Had Dany gone to King's Landing, unleashed her 3 dragons and claimed the throne, Jon and her would have had a much easier time defeating the White Walkers and avoiding all this drama and mass murder. It's a matter of telling us how mad she is without really showing us. In season 7 she completely abandons her goal to help Jon save humanity, puts trust in her enemies listens to every terrible idea Tyrion has for her and ultimately sacrifices one of her children for the greater good. A person who does that would not flip into Hitler this quickly and having a few tidbits of foreshadowing is not enough to justify it. All while she is doing these actions that paint a very strong picture of a real righteous leader, the show is only telling us that she's borderline crazy so watch out. The incongruity of this is really frustration to watch. Ultimately I am okay with this happening in the story as long as it's well executed which I believe GRR Martin can pull off much better than D&D
