They couldn't have done literally anything against either the Walkers or the dead whatever tactics they employed. The Red Lady did light up their swords *eventually*, but they didn't even know she'd be there. Meaning that they were initially planning to throw all of their cavalry at an army that reanimates the dead without any way of doing damage, essentially feeding the Walker army.

Honestly if we were given to play that scenario we honestly got a close victory at the very least.

@@bleyk36 The point of shock cavalry is in the name, it is to create shock, break formation, by attacking morale, good luck doing that to litteral undead, also shock tactics is normally done by heavy cavalry, dothraki are not heavy cavalry, they are light cavalry more meant to harass and lure. but still without Dragonglass weapon or valyrian steel, they really can't do anything against wight, besides maybe luring them into fire traps., if they had dragon glass arrow they could have harassed the wight, but then again we also need to start talking about the difficulty of maneuvering at night especially on horseback, trying to pull of any complicated maneuver like dodging and harassing enemy formation at night is extremely risky. they probably should have harassed the enemy way before they reach the castle during the day, and during the battle being held off in reserve and reinforce at dawn or just be used as infantry in the castle, you can never go wrong with more people on the wall.

Heavy cavalry could have at least stomped them into the ground, severely slowing them down and blunting the wight's attack. But yeah, light cavalry in the dark was not going to be effective.
