Sorry about the closed captions, I forgot. My bad lol ---- New information I have thanks to my Patrons: The Night’s King is different from the Night King. Night’s King = a Lord Commander who married a White Walker Night King = Leader of the White Walkers in the show, whom you haven’t met yet. (There is no Night King in the books, only the Night’s King) And as the other comment said, Margery was implying that her ancestors could’ve possibly set up the Gardeners by advising them to attack Aegon instead of surrendering, so that they could be wiped out and the Tyrells could take their place -Dot

@@RoNoC-u2s The Celtigars and Velaryons also survived The Doom because they were in Westeros before it happened. Both were smaller Valyrian houses and neither were dragonlords. Only the Velaryons with Targaryen ancestry had the dragonbond, so the dragons don't go without saying. It's unlikely the two Valyrian sealord houses could've conquered Westeros. And I did say the only _living_ dragons. That's important given how fiercely competitive the Valyrians were. If one or more of the larger more powerful families had taken an interest in Westeros before The Doom, the Targaryens at Dragonstone would've been cooked. Brandon wasn't laughing at Petyr. In fact, when Baelish came out, Brandon stripped down nearly all his armor and practically played patticake with him, ordering him to yield at every turn. "What is dead may never die" makes more sense in the books, when you have the context of the Drowned God's baptism ceremony. Also the Clegane bit is deeper than you realize. The show doesn't do a good job of explaining the Hound beyond him hating fire and his brother. In the books however, it's clear that The Hound hates the idea of knights, honor and chivalry because they paper over the truth of it all (terrible men that are good at killing). The world is ugly and his experiences (especially the heraldry and praise for his brother) have made him bitter. Most knights, as he sees them, are killers and terrible men that wear a false badge of honor, so when people call him "Ser" he gets angry and tells them he's not a knight. It's why he seems to care for Sansa when she first gets to Kings Landing. He sees her innocence and admires (and at the same time despises) her for it.

Theres some confusion in the lore with Night's King vs Night King due to the show's writing. The Night's King was a historical figure as Ygritte described. He was a human not an Other (White Walker), and was killed by one of the Stark Kings. The Night King is an Other created by the showrunners Dave & Dan to serve as the leader of the Others, a character not in the books, and the name Night King was given to the character by the fans and then was used by the showrunners in the later seasons dialogue. Also to be clear the Others are not undead. They are living beings with some kind of humanoid biology adapted for extreme cold. They lead an undead army, called Wights, puppeteering them through some kind of magic/telekinesis. The Others are not the only abhumans (mutant humanoids) in the world of Ice and Fire. There are of course the Children of the Forest and the Giants, but unmentioned in the show are the Deep Ones, also called Squishers, fish men who live in undersea cities and the worship the Drowned God. Also the Men of Ib, short, stocky, hairy men from an island north of the Dothraki hordes, the Ape Men of the unexplored jungle continent of Sothoryos, and more fantastic races in far Essos and the distant continent of Ulthos. Even among the 'normal' human ethnic groups we have the Valyrians, with their purple eyes and silver hair, and talents for telepathic and telekinetic abilities. Among the great houses of Westeros, where ancestry is of great import, the folk histories tell of the powers in certain bloodlines, most notably the Starks power of warging, telepathic command of wolves.

When Margaery says “he should’ve consulted us before going out… then again, perhaps he did” What she is saying is that a LOYAL steward would have advised King Mern against fighting the Targaryens, since it was in all likelihood a doomed cause. So he should’ve asked for counsel because it could’ve saved him. But when she ominously says “perhaps he did,” what she means is that maybe the Tyrells actually were asked, but counseled Mern to go fight the Targaryens, because they saw the opportunity to rise in power themselves if House Gardener fell to the Targaryen invaders.

Yara said the Ironborn have to be beaten before being made to kneel. What she means is the Ironborn were beaten and defeated by Aegon the Conqueror before they bent the knee to the Targaryens. The Starks bent the knee without a battle. Also, Margaery by saying perhaps the Gardeners had consulted with the Tyrells before going to war with Aegon the Conqueror implies the Tyrells pushed for the Gardeners to go to war knowing the Targaryens would win thus allowing the Tyrells to rise to power.

"The Night King" which is a character from the show Game of Thrones, and "The Night's King" from the lore of Westeros, are not the same people. The Night's King was a former Lord Commander of the Night's Watch who married what is described similarly as a White Walker (Others) woman. There are fan theories if this will play a significance in books but for now it is just to show that White Walkers have existed even after the Long Night and that the Night's Watch isn't always in the right. "The Night King" is a White Walker but is a show only mention. Think of him as the imagined leader of the undead as Westerosi believe an army must have a King leading it. There is no confirmation this thing exists and the White Walker you saw with Sam was just a White Walker. Since you are aware of the characters name, a leader of the White Walkers is brought up in the show and is named The Night King. As of now the Others (White Walkers) do not have any prominent character in the books, they are all described equally and differentiated from the wights (undead) they command. The White Walkers are not considered a threat/or real in the books by many outside of some in the Night's Watch and the Wildlings so the war for the throne is always put first.

Dear Barry, after Catelyn’s speech, you recognized that you have got the gist of the lore from the show and yet got a couple of details from Margaery. What you are understanding from this video is the manner in which the books are written… Every chapter is from one characters perspective. For example, information about a battle may be present it, but it could be through Arya’s understanding of the world, or it could be through Robb’s understanding of the world, both of them are Starks, but each one has certain knowledge and prejudices. Margaery’s story is very pro Tyrell. But in the books, our understanding of the Tyrells comes from Davos listening to Stannis, Cersi’s complaints to Tyrion, and from Sansa’s fantasies. And then you hear Theon and Yara, speaking of the Greyjoys and you question that information because you heard something different in Theon’s first story. This brings up the storytelling device of the unreliable narrator. If you can’t trust the narrator then how can you trust the story? It is easy when you know the narrator is honest (Eddard) or dishonest (Littlefinger). It becomes more difficult when the narrator is a child (Bran), uneducated (Danaerys), or traumatized (Tyrion). So regarding the narrators of each of these lores and stories the show watchers will not understand why each character has been chosen. Stannis tells the story of Aegon the Conqueror and Dragonstone because just like Aegon, Stannis is sitting in Dragonstone thinking about conquering the continent. Jorah tells of the East because he’s been there for years in exile. Catelyn speaks of Harrenhal (even though it was built by the Ironborn and you’d think Theon should tell this story) because she is the eldest grandchild of the last family (the Whents) to unsuccessfully hold it…. and like the Targaryens have dragons and Starks have direwolves, House Whent is rumored to have connections to bats. I hope you enjoy it all. Thank you for the video and keep up the good work.

Honestly-- as much flack as the ironborn get (and for good reason) you gotta put some respect on their name. The EASIEST summary I can give them as a people to explain them is they’re a badass cross between Vikings and Pirates. Yes they can be made to kneel but only after whoever they’re kneeling to has proven themselves stronger than them via battle and BEATING THEM. They’re the warriors of the sea and their very way of life IS reaping and raiding similar to rl vikings. If you’re a fan of vikings or pirates, it would be assumed the ironborn are right up your alley. Most people either like them or loathe them and from what I can tell those that loathe them don’t really understand them/why the people are the way they are, kinda similar to how people START OFF loathing the wildlings.

Either for a reaction series or just on your own, I feel like you would love the show. It’s set 172 years before Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen in its prime

The Nights King and the Night King are actually two completely different characters! The nights king story Ygritte told was just a story in the books that starks are told, and is not relevant to the night king in the show. Directors just liked the name “night king” I guess and put it on a whole new character that isn’t in the books

"What is dead may never die, But rises again harder and stronger" It's a common prayer to the Drowned God, most just say the first part for brevity. To be honest House Greyjoy is kind of pathetic in the show, book is a little different.

The Nights King is not the same character. Everything you were trying to understand is actually completely useless. lol. I feel this needs to be said, otherwise you would have been confused as hell.

Yeah the Greyjoys got stomped out because lets be honest, they ain't shit! I mean literally they're the worst. They only survive off what they steal from others. Actual parasites. The show abandoned the entire Greyjoy arc from the books unfortunately.

54:21 I always thought Stannis had a bratty attitude about being installed at Dragonstone. Did Robert really mean it as a punishment for him? Maybe, given that Dragonstone had fewer, less prosperous vassals than Storm's End. Maybe not, given that Robert hadn't yet married Cersei. It might make sense to him to have his oldest brother and heir at Dragonstone because it's traditionally where the heir to the Iron Throne resides, and in the Baratheon family, they have Targaryen ancestry, a fact Robert used in order to justify his rebellion. And even once Cersei had an heir and a spare, well, those kids could've died from anything before coming of age. Westeros has all kinds of weird and fatal illnesses, and the night is dark and full of terrors.

It baffles me how Catelyn hated Jon when she didn't even love Ned at the time. She loved his brother. I understand that she didn't like that he brought the "bastard" home to be among Ned's true born children but why did she hate Jon? Smh There was no need to be jealous of his mother if u loved another man and not Ned at the time, right? 🤷🏽‍♀️

Because the Northerners were especially weary of Basterds as the Nights King was a Basterd of house Stark and they see Basterds as potential kin slayers
