Actually, MANY of the characters are wonderfully complex (I mean, Tywin, Tyrion, Littlefinger, Varys... the list goes on and on). There's only a few that aren't, and they're great because of THAT. Brienne is one, she's not really complicated, same with Jon Snow... what you see is what you get... and it's easy to admire nobility and honour.

Jamie has the best character development in any book I've ever read. If you guys are book readers I highly recommend reading the book series. You get POV chapters and actually get to know what some characters are thinking. When Jamie pushes Bran out the window the exact line is "The things I do for love," he said with loathing. Jamie hated doing that the moment it happened. Also when Ned finds out about Jamie and Cersei he thinks "if it came to that, the life of some child I did not know, against Robb and Sansa and Arya and Bran and Rickon, what would I do? Even more so, what would Catelyn do, if it were Jon's life, against the children of her body? He did not know. He prayed he never would"

There are three songs everyone in Westeros knows: the Dornishman's Wife, the Lannister family song, and The Bear and the Maiden Fair. The last one is the title of this episode. They played a cover of it over the credits right after Jamie lost his hand. This show loves foreshadowing...

Considering it's the single most popular song in Westeros and people are singing it repeatedly throughout the books (especially book 3, which is when this episode takes place), I'm really surprised it's not heard more often in the show than that one time. Guess the producers just prefer the tune for Rains of Castamere, since it's so conveniently musical shorthand for the Lannisters.
@felipeaquitral
@felipeaquitral 6 жыл бұрын
I agree with Derek. Rains of Castamere is not well known either, at least in the show very few people know the song. On 2x9 Tyrion is surprised that Bronn even knows the song and he reply he learned it from drunks Lannister, not just anyone.
@Mayhemm007
@Mayhemm007 6 жыл бұрын
@@felipeaquitral Well, it's like the Lannister "theme", so it makes sense for them to be the ones who know it best and sing it most often. It's also a great tune, though, so I don't oppose the show using it whenever a Lannister (ie: Tyrion or Jamie) is being particularly badass.
@felipeaquitral
@felipeaquitral 6 жыл бұрын
@Mayhemm007 I know that the Lannister would be the ones more familiar with the song, I was replying to the OP that said everyone know that song in-universe, wich is false, the series imply that just a few people know the song. When it's used as extradiegetic music is for the audience to identify the song with Lannister's badass moments; when it's used as diegetic music (much more rare) very few characters (mostly Lannisters) recognize the song (e.g when Tyrion heard Bronn sing on 2x9).

The fact is there's no way to know what Jojen meant by enemies. For you to say otherwise is simply incorrect. He could be talking about the present situation with Jon surrounded by wildlings, or he could be talking about a future situation with Jon surrounded by wildlings, white walkers, etc. He's a greenseer, meaning he can see into the future. They kept it purposefully vague so it's up to the viewer to decide what he meant. I mean there's a reason he said "enemies" instead of "wildlings".

I think that young Jaime was a bit like Sansa in a way. He had this idealized, almost fairy-tale like version of what knights and heroes and honor was supposed to be, only to become traumatically disillusioned by the real world. I think he found that most knights were in reality just blustering hypocrites, or fools who would keep their "oaths" even at the cost of tolerating the most vile acts done by their lords and then calling that "honor". And then he meets Brienne, who I think is the embodiment of everything he always felt like a knight should be. He obviously has an immense amount of respect for her. Which is awesome.

Jaime pushed Bran to save his own children. He attacked Ned because his brother was in danger. As you recently heard, he broke his vow in order to protect millions of King's Landing peasants. People are more than in the grey, they are judged far harsher if they are arrogant or wealthy, or aligned with those we don't like. Jaime is not a bad man in the world he lives in, he is merely the enemy by default.

Another Actor Note (well, a bear actor): Yes, that was a real bear that was performing in Los Angeles. To get practical shots, the bear was performing with a body double for Gwendoline Christie. However, to make sure that the bear would be used to the dress (and not freak out or attack the double) its trainer had to wear the dress while training the bear for some time prior to shooting. That had to be quite a sight. A bearded man in a dress staging mock fights with a bear.

Tyrion is definitely the best person Sansa could be with in such circumstances, but I can see why she is unhappy, she is still stuck in King's Landing with a psychopathic king who: "isn't the type to give away his toys." It sucks on all sides. Sansa is still trapped in Kings Landing. Tyrion is now trapped in an engagement with a woman he doesn't love. So, Jaime didn't really push Bran out of the window because he was doing his sister, he did it because if people found out, Robert might suspect the 3 children were not his, and would kill Cersei and them. So anybody who is saying they wouldn't do the same thing to save their 3 secret children doesn't really know what they might do in that situation.

Maragery's intentions aren't ever really known but in my opinion she is fake but she does use her manipulation skills for the better good even if it's for selfish reasons e.g. being loved by the people, the nobles loving her and being the queen

Joffrey’s displeasure at Tywin holding small council meetings in the Tower of the Hand is actually pretty valid (yes I did throw up a little writing that). One of the laws of power is that power does not travel, so by making everyone, including the king, come to him, Tywin is asserting his dominance over them. Also making Brienne fight the bear was supposed to be a reference to the in-universe song “The Bear and the Maiden Fair”. That was the “joke”, for the soldiers at least.

0:43 I'm sure there will be a hundred other comments clarifying this, but Jojen's vision that Jon was "on the wrong side of the wall" just meant that he was on the North side of it, and "surrounded by enemies" was referring to his status as a spy/mole, who are constantly "surrounded by enemies". It didn't mean surrounded as in battle.
@samrudgyard7887
@samrudgyard7887 6 жыл бұрын
When Jojen said "[Jon Show] was surrounded by enemies and on the wrong side of the wall", he meant that he was surrounded by the wildlings he is with at the moment. To Jojen the wildlings are their enemies, and on the wrong side of the wall because he is beyond the wall rather than in the North.

Look at the way they compose the scenes with Joffrey and Tywin. Tywin *towers* over Joffrey. Always. They make sure Joffrey looks smaller in every shot and even as Tywin walks down the stairs and away from the throne, he's still much bigger. Very fun.

It's not just that Brienne brings out the best in Jaime, it's also that Cersei and Tywin bring out the absolute worst in Jaime. And they've been a huge influence on Jaime (especially Cersei) his entire life. At least he had his brother Tyrion growing up to somewhat balance out Tywin's influence, but until Brienne nobody had been there to balance out Cersei's influence... It's a really interesting look at how love has the potential to change a person. Cersei's had him wrapped around her finger since they were little kids, and now that he's spending time with (and starting to care about) someone like Brienne, it makes you wonder how Jaime's personality might've turned out differently if he'd never gotten so close to Cersei in the first place.

Another great reaction. Poor Nikki, so conflicted, Brianne needs help but don't hurt the Bear. LOL This was a nice story arch for Jamie as we get to see a side of him not yet revealed. Also loving Dani's continued rise and her unyielding strength of will; remember her from the first episode and you can't help but be in awe of her. The interesting thing about this show is how when it first started, a lot of people said it was misogynist because the women were all portrayed as weak...then came season 2, and especially season 3, and laid to rest that misconception. The women of GoT are incredibly strong in ways that we've not seen in other series. This is why we love it, because all is not as it seems. Again, another great reaction.

This is the one episode where I actually respected Joffrey a bit. When he tells Tywin that they should be more concerned about Daenerys and her dragons, he's 100% right. He was actually forward thinking enough to see Daenerys as a threat, when EVERYBODY else is underestimating her.
