These are the four heavenly kings (四大天王) the guy with the trident is 二郎神 and his dog is called 哮天犬. he is a god that can shape shift into 73 different forms, where as Sun Wu Kong can only shape shift into 72 forms. In the Journey to the West classics, 二郎神 defeats Sun Wu Kong but was prevented from killing him. However, they met again Sun defeated him. So glad my culture is being accurately represented here rather than the white washed Japanese version (nothing against JPN). Fun fact: the basis of journey to the west is a struggle not of evil and good but rather Taoism and Zen Buddhism. Sun Wu Kong - a being born from a rock and of total energy is a student of the Taoist sages, whereas every enemy he had was a buddhist and the person that truly beat him - 如来佛，was the ultimate Buddha.

I haven’t played the game yet, likely will this weekend but I suspect the main character isn’t Wu Kong himself but one of the other godly monkey kings. The classic itself is super deep. Like one area you go to in game and in the novel is called 狮驼岭, in the story it’s where two demons reside but in the real writing it’s supposedly super dark like corpses and bones in piles that became a mountain. Super interesting.
