Gamecube model DOL 001 and DOL 101 comparison

Obvious things I should mention all Purple GameCubes are the DOL-001 "There really wasn't a DOL-101 unless there is then that's a rare GameCube", Black ones had both variation "so keep a look out on photos on eBay or looking at thrift stores, same with Platinum ones "which are shown in this video"

@@Dude123Lego Sure thing, I have a special edition game cube that says pokemon XD Gale darkness it's platinum like the 2 shown but instead of it saying "Nintendo Gamecube" on the top, it says..."Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness"

foxtrotnero97 you’d need the DOL 001 model (the one shown off on the right), as that’s the one that has a digital av out that GCHD adapters need to use. The colour isn’t important.

There are actually DOL-101 Indigo GameCubes in existence. However, they're much harder to come by. Almost all of them afaik are 001s.

I have heard that the laser mechanism for Dol-101 was optimized and is much better at reading discs than the 001. Is this true? And if so, would it be possible to swap the laser mechanisms between the two (its only held in the gamecube by a port) so one gamecube could have better disc reading AND component out?

that would probably be more expensive to do, and more time consuming than just purchasing a new one.

You have a point. I believe it's possible since replacing the laser is pretty simple. You can replace it with a replacment part if you have any to spare (which are cheap.) So I assume it's possible to swap the lasers.

the DOL have "optimized" laser that read with less issues , but last LESS longuer than the DOL-001 version .....no paradise for hardcore gamers.....

@EtikaArchiveNetwork Yeah not all GameCube's are made equal. Nintendo cheeped out and removed the connector due to not many accessories using it.

I have a DOL-101 and a DOL-001. Both EUR version. I have a DOL-017 Gameboy Player which ONLY works on the DOL-001. How can I get my Gameboy Player to work on the DOL-101? Or is it just not possible? The DOL-101 and DOL-001 both work with my regular games like Smash and RE4 but DOL-101 just gives me a red error message at startup if the Gameboy Player Disc is inserted.

biza0vs0goten I believe both models of the GameCube should be able to use the gameboy player. It might be a problem with the port on the bottom of the GameCube (where the gameboy player plugs into), or with the disc/disk reader itself. If you know that your gameboy player and startup disc work on your DOL 001 gamecube, then the problem is most likely a hardware issue with your DOL 101. I’ll try to do some more research myself, but it seems to be an issue with your individual GameCube and not the peripherals themselves.

Thanks for pointing this out @1:15 you wouldn't be leave how many videos i have seen on how to install the SD2SP2 MicroSD Card Reader, its just not possible on the DOL 101

Do you happen to know when the Dol-101 was manufactured/released. I bought mine used on eBay around 2009

Both models were released in 2001, with the dol-001 model being released before the dol-101.

The DOL-001 came out in Nov. 2001 and the DOL-101 came out in May 2004

Inferno Saru the DOL 001 model has a digital av out which either gamecube component cables, or a GCHD adapter can utilize to produce a crisp progressive video (480p), rather than the standard interlaced video from the standard composite cables (480i). Neither is better per se, but if you care about having 480p video rather than 480i, then the DOL 001 model is the place to go. GameCube component cables are expensive though, so take a look at some GCHD converters (or you can use a wii that’s backwards compatible with wii competent cables).
