It also doesn’t help that Nintendo has hardly rereleased any of these games, and since they pretend emulation shouldn’t exist, buying the originals are the only ways to play these games in Nintendo’s eyes. Nintendo could make a killing if they released these games on the Switch similar to the NES and SNES service, but they’re to busy trickling out three NES and SNES roms every three months, if we’re lucky that is.

I think Nintendo has to realize that the 80s/90s nostalgia has long passed at this point. The Gamecube is turning 20 next year and as a result that's where the hype is right now. They literally wouldn't have to polish/update the games in any meaningful way and like you said, I guarantee people would hop on this stuff immediately and support it legally that way. When Nintendo sees that sales success, they'll be more inclined to rerelease more GC games and the rest is history. The hard part is getting started.

As a seller I’ve noticed an interesting trend. There is almost an inherited love for GCN titles. The vast majority of people abandoned Nintendo during this period or they were too young to have had a GCN at all. KZbin coverage of these games, more contemporary releases of these games and probably the biggest factor the GCN titles in each of these series is probably the game you have least likely played. The majority of today’s FE fans probably didn’t know Path of Radiance or just FE for that matter existed at all in 2005. Pokémon Box was only available at a single store in North America and for $20 ($20 including the large box with GCN to GBA cable, think about that percentage increase!) GCN has a sort of “Dead Sea Scrolls” mystique about it.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing older _Fire Emblem_ titles and the ilk get some love from Nintendo. I can't imagine more "casual" players are remotely interested in paying collectors prices, so it probably wouldn't impact the prices all that much. The more common games will see prices drop more significantly as I don't think people are quite as opposed to paying "New Release" prices for older titles. For those not looking specifically to collect, it means they won't have to go out of their way to play something like _Path of Radiance_ or _Radiant Dawn._

My only memory of the Gamecube is going to someone's house and this asshole who was good at Melee stomping and laughing at me for not knowing how to play. That memory still taints my view of Melee and that's one of the big reason it sits in the bottom of Smash games. Brawl sits second in my Smash games list and is one of the big reasons I want to buy a Wii. Its worth mentioning that some sellers swap between discs even if the case is black label vs yellow label! To get confirmation is to check the discs. Usually Black label/OG discs have more shiny font disc covers AND DOL-0-000, Where the Players choice often have DOL-0-002 and disc cover font isn't as shiny. There's also the best sellers (Look for the best seller stamp on front case cover). These versions are NOT OG, but they do have the black label though the disc is DOL-0-001! I'm mentioning this, because not many people know about the disc swap scam on eBay.

@@bland9876 Think of them as patches. the OG copies will always have higher value than the player choice versions. Reason being is due to small details from mainly glitches (Speedrunners highly desire this) and some song variations (Zelda WW dragon roost bass OG vs no bass Players choice). Price differences can range from $10-$20 or higher depending on the game. Disc swapping is a scam, because its not the "true" OG version.

@@bland9876 Seems like kind of an odd scam to me unless the "Black Label" is reproduction. Authentic cases are worth money and I've certainly tracked "case only" sales for some of the odd titles in my collection. A couple weeks ago I dug up my box of remaining Gamecube games from my attic. Told myself I need to sell them, but looking at titles like Chibi-Robo, Air Ride, Pikmin 2, Colosseum, DK Jungle Beat, Harvest Moon AWL, and all the others triggered so many memories that I can't let them go so easily. If I felt like Nintendo was ever going to port them to Switch (*particularly more unique titles like Chibi-Robo and Colosseum*) I think letting them go would be easier, but knowing how heavily the odds are stacked against that happening makes it really easy to understand why people (like me) who don't typically collect would be willing to invest so much money into feeling that way again.

It’s extremely unfortunate that price of GameCube games have went up so much as I have so much nostalgia for the Nintendo GameCube. I wouldn’t recommend many to start collecting for the GameCube and hurts my heart to say it. It doesn’t I don’t love it as I do but it is extremely hard to get into now. I remember so many fond memories with my GameCube playing Kirby’s Air Ride, Super Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart Double Dash, Super Monkey Ball games, Mario Party, Star Fox Assault, and so many more games that I didn’t mention and those memories really made my time in the closet a bit better and gave me hope that things will get better. Now its hard to say many of those games are worth the price they are going for but if you are able to find many of these games dirt cheap, you are in for a hell of a time! This is literally the main reason why I HATE selling or getting rid of my video games. Especially for freaking gamecube. I mean I get it that these amazing game titles are a classic but they have to realize they're OLD games! And due to the fact it's ridiculous how they're generally priced OVER THE ORIGINAL PRICE they were released. Smh :/ Makes me so glad that I have Super Smash Bros Melee, Star Fox Adventures, Star Fox Assault, and Luigi's Mansion. I would love to get is Super Mario Sunshine and Mario Kart Double Dash back tbh. Mostly besides nostalgia I also want them back since my brother adores Super Mario Sunshine.

Anybody see a GameCube virtual console or GameCube classic in the near future? Been contemplating selling my collection (2400$) or parting some of the meat thinking that there may be a price deflation due to one of the above occurring. Then just rebuying them when they are cheaper later on. You could almost guarantee most of the Nintendo 1st party classics from that console would be included.
@NintendoCollecting4 жыл бұрын
I would love for that to happen but I don't think it will be anytime soon. Also if a GameCube classic does come it's not a guarantee that the cost of the original games will go down. Look at the Super Nintendo games
@danhallas35464 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree with you that it won’t necessarily make prices go down but look at the snes first party titles and you’ll see that they really haven’t gone up either. Earthbound is a title that probably should be up big time right now but feel like the mini release helped keep it down some. I’m honestly not sure whether to keep collecting them or not. I’ve got a decent amount of the rare titles but still need about 8 or so of the high priced (150$+) ones. (Fire emblem, 2k3, Mickey basketball, chibi, Pokemon box, rally championship, Metroid/wind waker can’t think off anymore off top of head) I’m basically holding out on seeing if I can get a copy of Pokémon box then going from there. There’s a lot of 100-150$ titles now too it seems like and that’s where it gets messy. I’m the type who wants rare titles just cuz they are rare but some of there games just aren’t very rare and the market resale def isn’t helping much. We are in some crazy times

I bet if Nintendo had done what Sony or Microsoft did and basically made a better version of their previous generation controller then they would have the best controller out of all of the controllers don't get me wrong the switch controller is pretty comfortable but it has its flaws
