IT's a fantastic sculpting app in VR, but the true magic is full PBR texture painting in VR. That is so fun, it feels like the painting miniatures, only you can make them life sized. Even with a full production Rez Zbrush workflow, It's still worth painting your model in Shapelab!

There's the same price with 30% off on Steam too with updates only until the end of 2024, which really means no futher updates. The Humble deal is going to be the best way of getting it as it will be anoying if they release a really good update next year just a couple of months after buying it and then you would need to pay full price if you bought it through Steam.

Having bought it as an investment in not-yet-usable software while I used Substance Modeler and Blender I'm less than thrilled that they rug pulled me *and* threw an even better deal up on Humble Bundle that's less than half the price and comes with a bunch of other stuff. I have no idea how that's acceptable. I bought one-time-purchase software with the reasonable assumption that buying Shapelab meant that I received all future updates to the software, and instead my license got demoted. Yeah, other companies also just slap a 2 on the name and go "oh this is entirely different software now!" but when I buy that software I generally get a currently usable piece of software *and* it usually has a 1 in the name or a clear signal that what I'm purchasing will only receive updates for so long before a different version replaces it. I have literally purchased the equivalent of 2 year's worth of perpetual licenses to the software, sold to me as buying the software for the lifetime of its' development, while the software wasn't even usable. There is no grounds of defense other than boot licking and pointing to other scummy companies that did something similar. This is unacceptable. I appreciate the significant effort that has been invested in this software this year - but what I'm getting is still not what I paid for. The deal was changed.

The Steam price was $44 with the 30% discount (it's back up to $64 on Steam when I just checked). The Humble Bundle price is $30.

@@MonkeyFrogStudiosteam is now $35 today 45% off. They give a 50% off too. It sucks that the end of 2024 license remains. I always expect a full year regardless on a day 1 purchase.

Yep, this app is great and I paid a good bit to use it a few months ago. Only to find it doesn't even *remotely* work on Linux no matter what I try. It will _launch_ but it sure won't get past the initial loading screen even after hours of waiting or even trying to mod it to force-load additional scenes.

@litjellyfish7 күн бұрын
Nice I still miss a simple good program for just polygon modeling. Now animation no fancy stuff. Just to be able to poly modeling and uv mapping ideally as well. There is some old stuff like wings but the UX is horrible. Blender is good but very deep. Wish some could do a fork / simplified version of blender a bit like blender for artist. Just so from UI POV a lot of features are disabled / not accessible.

Probably better off with blender. It does the same sculpting, but also does poly, nurbs, and meta shapes. And you can script it in python. -- another programmer who likes digital art.

@@pixelfairy but, can you do it in VR? which is my main thing. I find looking at 3D objects in 2D really hard
@pixelfairy2 күн бұрын
@@ThyTrueNightmare thought I replied, but guess it didn't post. There are a couple of projects for this, but ones dead and the other doesn't include sculpting tools. So if that's what you want, Shapelab seems to be the best option. Theres also blocks, which recently got open sourced. It's a very simplistic boolean modeller.
