1:28 If by "first fully-orchestrated soundtrack" you mean the first game to use Red Book CD audio in a game instead of MIDI, that was actually _No-Ri-Ko,_ a primitive dating sim from Hudson Soft and one of the two launch titles for the PC Engine CD-ROM (Turbografx CD in the US) released in December 1988. The game features J-pop idol Ogawa Noriko as the titular love interest, a fictionalized version of herself, and not only did it use CD audio for a few songs she sings in the game, it also used it for her voice lines.
@SHKEVE10 ай бұрын
I think another way to interpret it is the first game to have a soundtrack consisting of orchestral music performed entirely by a real orchestra. I think Arin’s right that the first game to do that was Jurassic Park: The Lost World from August 1997 [it wasn’t, but I’m still not certain which game was definitively the first] which was composed and orchestrated by Michael Giacchino who would go on to score movies like Up, The Incredibles, and even the Jurassic World series. Close runner up is Total Annihilation which was released the following month and was Jeremy Soule’s (of Skyrim fame) first orchestral score. Incredible music.
@executor3210 ай бұрын
@@SHKEVE Even if that's what Arin meant, which is debatable, one if the first home video games-possibly even _the_ first-to have a full orchestral soundtrack composed specifically for the game was _Dark Wizard_ for the Sega CD, and that came out in November 1993. Agreed on _Total Annihilation,_ though, still one of my favorite game soundtracks of all time.

@@SHKEVE"he first game to do that was Jurassic Park: The Lost World from August 1997 " Definitively not the first! Many of the early CD-ROM games featured a real orchestra performing the soundtrack on CD audio track. Gabriel Knight 2 even had an opera composed and performed for the game!
