The spear, commonly known as the "get over here" move is without a doubt the most iconic move that has ever appeared in a fighting game. It has been Scorpion's staple since the very first instalment of the game back in 1992 until MK11, which is the latest iteration of the Mortal Kombat franchise.

It actually changed like 4 times, the original only being in mk 1992 and then it being changed in mk2/umk3. Then it changed again in mk4 and it stayed that way until mkx except for shaolin monks which also has a different sound clip that is now being used in mk11/mk1

I still think they perfected Mortal Kombat with number 3 ... the sound, the vibe, the game play ... it's just the best. I don't know if it's nostalgia but I've played Mortal Kombats since my local arcade got the original in 1993. The new ones have better graphics but I still prefer 3 somehow.

Hell yea man! I mean, the new ones are great but MK ruled the world back in it's arcade hey-day. At one point in the 90's, there was nothing cooler. I mean, my mom wouldn't even let me play it back in those days when I was young, and that of course made it all the more bad-ass! Of course, kids playing the OG trilogy now would think that shit is cheesy as hell! Unless you were there to see it back in the day, you will never know just how revolutionary these games looked when they first came out. Everyone thought digitized graphics were the future back then, they were the most realistic and life-like yet! I like to include the whole trilogy of games as being the golden era of MK. Hell, I'll even go as far as 4, but no farther. The end of the arcade era is when shit started going downhill, and of course they were never going to recapture the glory days of their youth and reach the heights they did during that golden era of fighting games in general, really. MK, of course, forming a huge piece to that puzzle. As with everything else in life, nothing beats the originals.

Totally agree, MK3 was the best. I played MK 1, 2, 3 and trilogy (was it MK3 + more levels and characters?). The MK 4 (3D) wasn't my thing, and at that point played games less and less in general, so my interest faded away. I must admit the latest MK games look good and I understand why people like them, but so many iterations make the differences less relevant and they all look similar. There is definitely a nostalgia factor in it, but MK3 was at the peak of MK and then they switched to 3D, which wasn't the same thing and it took a while to make 3D look very good.

They have come so far with improvements to the graphics and gameplay. The only thing I wish is that they would make it more realistic. Sure, there is blood spray and splatter, but it instantly "disappears". I wish they would have the blood "stay" on whatever surface it landed on - be it the ground, an object, or any player's body parts. Now THAT would be a Mortal Kombat I'd want to play !!
