Pvt. Miller from the 2nd battalion of the Marine Raiders, Carlson's Raiders, is held captive by the Japanese forces, and witnesses his comrade, Pvt. Pyle, being tortured and then murdered. Miller is saved by Cpl. Roebuck, who then says "We're gonna make 'em pay for what they've done."
