Ubisoft could've literally just used the bones of Black Flag for Skull and Bones, not even added any features, just cleaned it up a bit, with an original story and characters and it would've done numbers. I was so stoked when it was announced.
@Unknown_Genius4 ай бұрын
or sell it for like 20€ without it being an online game for that matter, im pretty sure plenty of people would've had loads of fun with it for that price - you know, just to fool around a bit in ship to ship combat without too much depth, something to turn your brain off while playing. worst part about it is that skull and bones was supposed to be a dlc for black flag, they just "wanted to make it bigger so it has to be its own game", and then it got stuck in a "recycle everything a few times and make nothing out of even the small potential the final product would've had" position. I also don't exactly know how many live service games Ubisoft is planing to have - they already got The Division as probably their most (and solely) anticipated proper live service based title - but I suppose they'll just give the next entry there 1 or 2 DLC again and move on to the next game - because why would you make a game with the perfect basis for it live service and earn money? That's pretty much like Nintendo not giving people a remake of the old consoles with the games that released on them like people have been asking for for years and earn money with it, they'd rather spend money trying to stop people from accessing those. Companies somehow lost their brains collectively at some point if it comes to business decisions.
@williamedwards41514 ай бұрын
That's seriously my problem with it too. Like, it was already a home-run. They just had to swing the bat. But they chose to lean their cheek into it, and take the foul instead. And they knew. They had to know what the audience wanted. They chose to ignore all the red flags (or black flags lol) and pushed it into a direction no one wanted.
@theriffwriter21944 ай бұрын
Definitely. Someone could easily make video about sequels that got great features gutted for the sole reason that the devs didn't want to "repeat themselves" with at least a hundred separate entries.
@holden46204 ай бұрын
All of those resources should of just been poured into the black flag remake/remaster. Ubisoft has not been able to put out a decent game in years (decade?) so maybe they can just touch up the games that are obvious cash cows and that the fan base wants. Just remake the first 3 far crys, splinter cell, and black flag. Its the best we can ever hope for.

Gameranx, or "Falcon," you need to shift your focus from company names to the individuals driving the creativity behind the games. When Rocksteady Games created the Batman Arkham series, it was under the direction of the talented Sefton Hill. After completing the series, Hill left Rocksteady to start his own studio, Hundred Star Games. Expecting the same quality from a company that has lost its key creative force is unrealistic. It would be more insightful if your comments discussed the professionals behind the games rather than fixating on the companies. Just my two cents. :)

Idk if anyone remembers in 2018 Hill and Walker and other members of Rocksteady failed to respond to sexual harassment claims and use of negative slurs aimed at the trans community. An employee wrote a letter validating those claims and Shefton Hill still did nothing about it. Could even add onto it with “new story is mediocre and the writing isn’t as good but we could look past these flaws if the core gameplay actually worked like it used to or was at least functional.” I guess this is what happens when the sequels aren’t worked on by the same people. But I would think that the companies that own the IP would at least work to understand the core gameplay people enjoyed and make nailing the core mechanics the central focus of any sequel. And yet, that almost never happens.

@@snowman22ism a game thats great now. People gave cyberpunk, no mans sky, and multiple other games that were crap at launch a shot after updates. I hate that that's the norm and the state of the industry now, but i wish people would give battlefront collection the same forgiveness they gave many other games, its fantastic now. Way more fun than cod or the ea battlefront games

Skull and bones also came out way to close to the PlayStation edition of Sea of Thieves witch already had a massive amount of content and most major bugs already were fixed. Leaving a pretty obvious choice if you want an open world pirate game with your friends and the art style can hold up for a very long time compared to realistic graphics

It is so disappointing to see how such a cool concept coming from a developer like Rocksteady bombed so hard. If WB let them stick to making it a single player game like the rest of the Arkham universe, I feel like it could've been so much better.

I think there is a lot of potential in a Silent Hill game that focuses on bullying and the angst and pain of growing up that High School teens experience; especially in the social media age. You could explore ideas of identity and belonging mixed with the horror of the mob and warped social expectations as well as themes of loneliness and depression. How could this all be done while making a good horror experience mechanically? I don’t know in practical terms; but I do know it is possible. Here’s a story idea: you play as a parent of a broken family. Your child ends up harming themselves and end ups hospitalized. One day the kids cellphone goes off, but they seem to be texts from your kid even though they are currently comatose. Somehow you find yourself in Silent Hill that is transformed by the above themes. I imagine it less like Hell and more like purgatory, in that the end goal of the story is one of redemption despite the horrors being confronted. You confront your own demons, traumas and shortcoming in silent hill.

Suicide Squad very clearly has some talent behind it. I found myself thinking some things about were cool and I think small pieces of it are done well but as a complete product it's very lacking. Whoever was in charge of the big picture of this game failed their job completely. I wonder how many devs and middle managers were pissed off on a daily basis while making this game. I can already imagine how a typical day would play out with the manager's being told to implement some dumb feature, the manager trying to say no but losing the argument, and then the devs have to program this stuff.

Starting from the 7th (8th?) game, the timers and splits are all wrong :P. As for the video itself, it's good. When I read [First Half], I first thought it meant you were doing two videos and this was the first one, instead of first half of the year which was more logical...that just tells how F many flops there have been this year. What I don't understand about the woes around Skull & Bones is that why did people expect it to be a story-based adventure and why didn't anyone get concerned when they tried to turn it into one? The very first reveals showed it being a ship-based (essentially arena shooter) multiplayer game, nothing more. People wanted it to be Black Flag, the devs tried to cram something like that into it and it crumbled below the weight.
