This is what I loved about Halo Skulls. They functioned similar to easter eggs, tucked away in the corners of the maps, but also functioned as gameplay modifiers. I wish ANY dev would do something similar, maybe the weird bones of a giant creature or something that can unlock cheats/modfiers, and if you find them all you unlock some secret fight or optional boss.

To be fair, unless you're a boomer or a Gen Xer, you probably won't get the Uncle Sam reference. There have been references made to the Uncle Sam poster in recent media, but newer gen ppl will assume that reference is actually the original. Not a reference. A good example of what I'm talking about can be found in the recent "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off" series. There is a scene where Roxy sings a tune that many Millennials ID'ed as being "Hamster Dance". However, if a Gen Xer or boomer saw that scene, they identified the song as Disney's Robin Hood's "Whistle Top". What Millennials and Gen Zers know as "Hamster Dance" is just a sped up version of a 1970's Disney song.

My favorite Easter Egg that had practical purposes - the original Star Wars Rogue Squadron on N64 & the hidden Naboo Starfighter. Phantom Menace released in theaters 6 months after the game was already out, and maybe a couple months after that, it was discovered they hid away a secret Naboo Starfighter in the game that you could actually pilot! I don't remember exactly how long after release it was discovered, but it was a big deal back in that era's internet, and it was so cool to find new content tucked away in a game you already owned!

I feel like I discovered the cordyceps ant on accident when the game first came out on PS3... but never really thought anything of it so never mentioned it/screenshotted it/etc... (I think it was cause I went to bedroom, went downstairs, ended up triggering something like cutscene was like "ah shoot I don't think I saw everything yet" and quit out and reloaded... and then yeah... lol)

While this glitch appeared to have been found many, many years ago, I'm the person who made it mainstream knowledge back in 2020, I'm the person Anthony Caliber gives credit to in his video. That being said, you're wrong. This is in fact, a glitch. This blew up once I mentioned it in 2020. Yes, it it's obviously a cordyceps ant, directly related to the game, that doesn't make it an easter egg though. The ant was simply used as a placeholder image for the news broadcasting lady, however, doing the actions you see in the video, the placeholder image appears instead of what's actually supposed to appear.

The "mystery person" is 100% a sprite put there for scale by the level designer or 3D modeler. It's exactly what you'd do if you just cobbled together some quick geometry (like for a low detail background piece) or rescaled an object salvaged from elsewhere - just lob in a placeholder character, scale it to look alright then scale everything together until the person is roughly person-sized. Obviously I didn't work on that game but it's such common practice that it didn't surprise me in the slightest.

In the original Japanese version of Project Zero 4 on Wii, if you pause and unpause the game enough times (the - button), there is a rare chance you'll get spooked by a pale mask/face for a brief second. I see the Saints Row IV developers easter egg in the intro. AFAIK the door you have to blow up to get it is the only door in the entire damn game that will actually break if you shoot it. There's also a developer's office in Saints Row 2 by the waterfront- it's on a second floor and there's no easy way to get there.

Saints Row will always hold a special place in my heart. The first game in particular will forever be elevated for me on a personal level. Volition games was based in Champaign, IL. I grew up around there and Saints Row 1 felt like a game set in my area. It wasn't exact by any means but some things you just recognize as, hey I know that hill. It isn't anything special but I have driven on the actual road it was based on. It was just a more whacky GTA clone at the time that was based on the area I lived in because honestly, who the fuck bases a game on a place that is surrounded by corn for nearly 30 miles in any direction?

You mentioned Shin Akuma in Street Fighter Alpha 2, but there was also a way you could play as Akuma in Super Street Fighter II (in the arcade) by moving on certain fighters on the characters for 2 seconds select screen and then pressing a combination of buttons.
