@@Szan-40 They've also got a massive problem of how to address the absolutely nonsensical endings that happened with Mass Effect 3 which to this day normies still try to gloss over, for people like me who were big fans of the first two Mass Effect games you can't simply memory hole that. In hindsight, you could tell the half-arsing of everything and the DEI rot had started seeping it's way into Bioware big time when they disrespected Tali fans by doing her face reveal and they just lazily ripped some image from google or something rather than do any kind of proper character model. There were a good number of serious lore and storytelling breaches and they definitely did not like their own fanbase which certainly explains a lot of why we're at the stage we are now with these corpos. They killed off Shepard thinking they were edgy when it was always meant to be a choices matter power fantasy style sci-fi story. This is something I hate a lot of about devs who claim they're doing a choices matter game because even though people try and praise Cyberpunk 2077 honestly I thought the endings were mostly garbage and it's not edgy or clever writing to screw over the protaganist and make it so that the player at the end of the day has zero influence.

Kinda reminds me situation with ACS now, many people believe that it will oversell other AC games so its estimated that it will sell 20-30 millions of copies. Well, no. There's a lot of info there, just obfuscated and mollified for minimum emotional impact. We can gather: 1. Layoffs happened 2. Many that weren't laid off were poached by other divisions within EA (i.e. bioware was gutted) 3. We know we screwed up and we're taking steps to fix it 4. This includes a major course correction & change of leadership for ME4 I'm personally skeptical that any of this will make any difference, but this was a devastating update however one looks at it.

"Agile" is actually a rather common term in game development. It's a type of workflow where you work in 'small' iterations that expand the game. The idea being that each iteration finishes a specific part of the game. This allows developers to make bigger changes to the overall design of the game in later stages of development, based for example on feedback from QA teams in earlier iterations. Instead of having to plan out and design the entire game upfront, mostly locking you into the direction you chose, making it much harder to make important changes later, when you for example realise a flaw in the original design. In game development, some long term planning is necessary. I have interacted with many people in the game industry who use the word "agile" to mean "I have no clue what I'm doing, but admitting it would ruin my reputation, so join me in jumping this cliff". Same thing with "quick and dirty" or "lean" - all terms that refer to good work practice, but are often being misused as buzzwords. That's the funny part: They don't have to cost nearly as much as they do. Look at Minecraft. It started as a no cost project a college student did in his free time. Only after it started making sales did he create Mojang and hire a team. Look at Stardew Valley. Another case of a single dude starting it as a project. Concerned Ape found himself in a unique situation where he was able to dedicate his full time to producing it and cranked out an indie game that absolutely dominated the game franchise it was inspired by. Look at Warframe. Digital Extremes, a well established studio that previously created the Unreal Tournament franchise and also helped code the original Unreal Engine for use in Unreal, had only around 50 employees at the time of launch and was looking at closing down their studio after failed projects that were changed to meet publisher demands. They re-made a failed game they had previously changed to meet publisher demands and it's now one of the biggest live service games in the world, with the fairest free monetization systems in the industry. Look at Undertale. Look at Balatro. Look at literally anything Valve has released. All these studios and games were either forced or intentionally kept development costs low while developing their games. They all also have one thing in common: They don't rely on third party publishers or non-gamer executives in suits making creative decisions for the design of the games. The problem largely is greed from those profiting off the hard work of the developers, not the developers themselves. This INCLUDES "consulting firms" like Sweet Baby Inc, and their ilk.

That’s literally every studio The issue is everyone attaches past successes to the studio instead of the staff. When basically no studio today has any of the staff that made the greats back then

For the game industry " more Agile" means better communication, management processes/decision, and essentially assuring the production works better in parallel between dept. improving the workflow / better utilization of every asset / worker.
