The isopod parasite DOES eat fish tongues, but fish dont really... use their tongues. Its jarring and upsetting for us people to hear, but the fish really dont care. The isopod eats foods scraps stuck in the fish's mouth and the fish goes about its day with almost no consequence Edit: though i do try to educate as politely as i can, i kind of wish ppl wld do basic google research before trying to prove me wrong abt things that are right there in the wiki for the species 😅

@@sagittariusrat4959 well, yes, but actually no? See, they DO have a parasitic phase, its just not pictured in the game! When theyre babies, theyll stick to and suck the blood from the fish's gills. And when they mature they obviously 'eat' the tongue. Though after that they just kinda sit there, lol. So while the fish is uncomfortable for a couple weeks, in the long run the isopod isnt super harmful ^^

Actually fish do need there tongue to swallow food and if the isopod dies then the fish won't be able to eat properly and it will starve, and if the fish dies the isopod can just find a new host.

I was on a NOC shift when I first watch Manly's play through of "How Fish is Made." I was only half paying attention because I was doing some schoolwork and had to do a double take when the Cymotha isopod started dancing. When I laughed it was a bit too loud and the nurse also sitting at the desk, who was having trouble staying awake, jumped 3 feet in the air. And the Q-tip for a cane is the best part. 😅
