The solution I've always used for years that works perfect every time for getting stickers off box art is to use a hair dryer on low and heat the label to get the adhesive pliable. Peel it off slowly as you are applying heat and it will come off nicely without damaging the art. To remove any sticky residue, I've always used a small amount of lighter fluid with either a cotton ball or swab and gently rub it off. It does not damage any of the ink. My grandfather taught me that back when I was a kid and I've used it for every application from games to DVDs to magazines and book covers and have never once had an issue. It's especially great for those ultra sticky Blockbuster labels they like to slap directly over the artwork.

Call me a fool and you might be right, but Imma go ahead and keep on hoping the Tommy calls are gonna keep on coming in. In regards to video games on 90s TV shows, I remember hearing that as accurate representation could fall into the realm of unpaid advertising, shows would intentionally mix up systems and names. So you'd have a kid playing a Playstation game while clearly holding an N64 controller, or playing "Nintendo" with Sonic on the screen, etc.
@BiggysMusic2 жыл бұрын

Another reason for VHS collecting is that a lot of horror, sci fi, and avant-garde films were not really meant to be shown in cleaned up widescreen high resolutions and they actually look much better on VHS on an older 4:3 television set. Kind of like playing an NES game on a CRT versus an upscaled rom on a high end TV/Monitor.
@CasinoClams2 жыл бұрын
Nah, they were meant to be projected on a screen in razor sharp 35mm like everything else. Even 16mm blown up to 35mm (like a lot of '70s horror) looked like IMAX compared to VHS. P.S. I'm a VHS collector.
@BlackMetalChauvinist2 жыл бұрын
@@CasinoClams A lot were not. Sure bigger named ones yes, but stuff like The Burning Moon, Guinea Pig series, an ass ton of American slasher films from the 80's, Street Trash, Violent Shit trilogy, most Troma films, etc. were shot with home releases as their primary target.
@CasinoClams2 жыл бұрын
@@BlackMetalChauvinist OK yeah, shot on video stuff, sure. That's an extremely niche sub-genre though, and these guys are talking about Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, not a Japanese SoV gore short that was never released in the U.S.
@BlackMetalChauvinist2 жыл бұрын
@@CasinoClams I wasn't trying to exactly say you are wrong in any sense. Just kinda trying to explain the types of things that were not meant for high resolution transfers. And to me the niche stuff is the stuff collectors will be after.. just like the many terrible NES games worth a good dollar amount now simply because of it's rarity. Course... those types of collectors could care less what is on the VHS/cartridge anyway.

Instead of putting price stickers on games, I wish stores would do what FuncoLand did back in the day and have stacks of price lists on the counter. I would always take one home and plan out what I was going to buy next time I was in the store. For awhile I even used it as a checklist by crossing off the games I already had so I didn't accidentally buy any duplicates. Who else still finds one of these in an old box in their closet once in awhile?

Tommy!!!! I'm gonna miss ya. You brought us much laughter. I hope you still make a call from time to time.
