Games Room Deep Dive. The Retrotink 4k - Dad & Lads Gaming

This is the first of a new set of videos I'm going to make.
A deeper dive into certain aspects of our set up. I really enjoy these type of videos so I thought id bore you with them too.
We recently bought a Retotink 4K and this video shows how its been incorporated into our set up.

I watched/ listened to the whole video and here's what I need you to know about me. Two nights ago I wanted to play Darksiders on the CRT in our game room. I turned on the TV and nothing came up on the screen. Thankfully I was on the phone with Scott who was at work and I said " the TV is not working" and he said "put it on HDMI" to which I sent him a picture of our remote and said "what button is the HDMI button?" There's a snowballs chance in hell I would ever be able to figure this out even if you wrote it in language fit for a toddler 😂😂😂

Great stuff mate. I really enjoyed that and was happy to see that you ironed out the bugs in the end. I’m 100% getting one of these at some point. I was surprised by the size of it though. I just assumed it would be a similar size to the RT5x. Take it easy.

Toys for big boys! 😂 It’s my understanding the Xbox 360 and PS3 look great on this thing when hooked up to a modern tv. Worth the price of admission? Well, I will let you be the judge of that! lol

How technology has advanced. I remember when the most complicated thing we had to do was swap the scart leads round for the Atari or Intellivision because the TV only had one input. Great video bro.

The "issue" with the XSX only allowing 1080p is because the Retrotink is limited to 1080p on the HDMI input, or if you have a capture card on a second output for the receiver, it'll force the lowest common denominator.

Definitely a big difference. A lot of your amazing knowledge goes over my head. Being stung for so much though would sour my experience in getting something I want particularly if I have wanted for so long. Even if I didn’t understand everything I enjoyed listening 👍

It’s a lovely setup mate👌🏻 Annoys me when company’s don’t send out the correct psu for their hardware though😡and I know that’s not a cheap bit of kit. Can you take an Xbox 360 and downscale to 240p and spit it back out to the crts with that?

It's something I'm trying to work out Steve....it can downscale the content. I've already got a spare component cable in the wall between the HDMI side and the retro side. Watch this space👍👍

The set-up is outstanding! I've been looking for a good HDMI converter for my PS1 and PS2, that doesn't look overly pixelated on big Tvs and can maintain good quality during gameplay. I got a cheap LevelHike converter, but it's no good. I'm more than willing to go for a Retrotink, but it is a high price.

The Retrotink 4K is expensive. Have you considered the Retrotink 5x?

@@DadLadsGaming It's over $300, a lot closer to an acceptable price range for me. I still worry about the quality of the converter on big Tvs. I have a Samsung 65inch QLED with I all my consoles connected to it.

I used the 5x in my set up before I got the 4k and it looked great the the 75 inch TV👍

They are great things those but I think you would have to enjoy the technical side of things and the fiddling to get the most from them. Fantastic setup you have Marcus. Do you find all the splitters etc introduce any lag?

All the splitters are on the digital side so no lag at all. Splitters are more of a problem for the analogue side👍👍

I've used one off my new Sony mobile phone. It's important that's it powerful enough or you may encounter random issues like I did. My usb brick is USB-C and is 20w output I think. Hope this helps

@@Zenon00007 one switcher is just a 4k hdmi that'll do 2.0 etc.....the other one strips put the HDCP for PS3 and PSTV. I'll try to find the link for it.
