Final Fantasy 13 is high on my list of games I can't stand. an entire console gen dedicated to that blunder of an entry into the series :\

hmmmmm if i may ask why? Is it the band wagon effect? Honestly i like the main character for the first time since ff9.... The story was pretty solid even without the dlc a tad bit linear for the first 5 hours... But no more linear than ff10....

i agree and that fact that they made 3 GAMES under the final fantasy 13 not name in stead of making them seprate games and i was surprised to see u post in the comments i am a huge fan i think my favrite video from you is your FANBOYS ruining gaming video

I respect Alpha's opinion but I personally think the trilogy is pretty incredible. Each FF goes in a new direction (even direct sequels with regards to game mechanics) which is something I admire considering they could have COD'd the series and made them all the same thing iterated over and over. But as a result I think most people have a FF game they didn't like--for me it's FF2 on the NES which I found particularly tedious and unnecessarily punishing. Keep in mind that most FF games receive a lot of negative criticism. I remember the negative backlash to FF12, calling it an "offline MMO" or that it's not a true FF and other such remarks. So that in itself is nothing new, but having a huge public forum with which to bash a game... well that is relatively new.

I honestly enjoyed it, and I've been a fan since buying VI on the snes. I can definitely see why it gets the hate that it does because of the linearity but at the same time, X was pretty linear as well. I don't know, it had a great combat system, that definitely helped it along for me. I'm not really defending it, I just don't think it's such a terrible game.

Dude ! I can't believe you included M&M 2 in this ! I'm honestly shocked. That was hands down one of the greatest, most deep and engaging rpgs on the Genesis, in my opinion and experience at least. The world was HUGE. I sunk hours upon hours into that title. Though I will say it has quite a vast difficulty curve. And on the battles taking a long time, they really don't once you figure things out. A single spell could of taken down all 240+ of those Orcs in one fell swoop. That's just how the game is.

I love this video because you guys were clearly vexed by all of these games and it's fun to see your personal stories good or bad. I have personally felt the stung of Unlimited Saga. However, I actually did finish that game with one character before giving up on it--usually with Saga games I play through multiple times but I just couldn't stomach that one.
@HerecomestheCalavera9 жыл бұрын
I like your story about might and magic, about how it basically sucked but you still put 100s of hours into because you bought it and wanted to finish it. Thats how it was as a kid if you got a new game you played it whether it was good or bad, because that was all you had. You couldn't say this sucks and go buy another one, most parents probably bought a kid a new game probably twice a year or so. So getting a new game was a big deal. My worst experiance with buying a new game was "Rocko's Modern Life" for the SNES. I loved the cartoon so I had to get the game. It was awful just awful I can remember many bouts of screaming and many controllers thrown because of that game. But I would still play it for some reason lol, sitting there frustrated as shit screaming at the TV. Lol cause even though it sucked when your a kid and you have a game, it's either the game or no game so you just push through the pain lol

I played Might & Magic on Famicom. I actually enjoyed it (and your Genesis version looks pretty different from what I played) but it turned out to be one of (if not only) a few RPG that I went all out but still couldn't beat it. Man that game was hard. I drew maps of all the field areas on my notebook but there were so many dungeons as well and I didn't know where to explore and the battle and the traps were pretty punishing.... I finally gave up at some point. When you guys did the bucket list episode, the first thing came to my mind was Might & Magic. I still have bitter feeling about not being able to beat it. But all in all that's also a precious memory of mine :-)

The worst part about Unlimited Saga is that it made tons and tons of people avoid the next entree in the series Romancing Saga, which is one of the most delightful, interesting, flexible, non-linear RPGs of that generation or any other released by SquareEnix. And that music!
@gtf2349 жыл бұрын
That really was the worst part. Minstrel's Song was an excellent remake of Romancing 1 and damn if its new version for the final battle against Saruin wasn't potentially better than the original tune on the SuFami. Real damn shame because I would have loved for that to continue as series with remakes of Romancing 2 and 3.

Yes, I absolutely agree with you. Unlimited Saga was the worst RPG I ever played. I saw in the $10 and below bin at Gamestop. I saw it, it was $3, an RPG, and a Square Enix game, so I thought "how bad could it be?" I regretted ever doing that. The clerk at the register recommended me not to play that game because it was so bad. I decided to buy it anyway. Less than five minutes after playing it, I took it out because it was so bad. I took it back the very next day. A word of advice, if a clerk at a store tells you not to buy a game because it sucks, you better listen to them and pick something else.

I've been giving Unlimited Saga a try over the last month and it's pretty good. Great soundtrack. It's a very confusing game at first, but once you get the mechanics, it's just like any other rpg. New players need to make sure to research a lot though, especially crafting and character building. Overall throughout the game, you're basically collecting materials to craft better weapons and accessories. You also collect money to buy armor and materials from shops. The shops have a very limited supply of items that are randomized and restocked after every story and sidequest event. When using a weapon in battle, you lose a bit of durability. You need to visit a blacksmith to patch them up, using some of the materials you've collected. Magic is infused into accessories or weapons, and casting a spell removes durability similarly to using a weapon skill. You also have hand to hand combat which does ok dmg and doesn't use up durability. Your HP is your stamina, while LP is your actual life bar. High HP helps you resist LP dmg. Equipment can help your resist both types. The battle encounter rate is pretty good. In some dungeons it can be very high at first, but the monsters are actually present on the map, and on most maps they don't replenish, which means. But some of the dungeon designs are pretty brutal. The difficulty is pretty average, although some of the battles at the end can be extremely hard, and requires you to grind a lot. You will get a chance to improve every character after every quest, and this combined with obtaining or crafting better equipment is what makes you stronger. Magic is confusing to learn and it can be a bit grindy to build a mage, but magic is not super important beyond the basic healing spell. Overall the game follows more of a traditional DnD style. You will need a thief character who can deal with traps and locks. You can customize every character how you want, but they all have different talents.
