The original version came out for some obscure Japanese PC. The PSX port/remake came out very late in the PlayStation life cycle so not a lot of people know about it. If you like old-school style Castlevania it's damn good. There's also the different play modes: the arranged mode that they play on in the run is way easier (and more fun in my opinion) than the original mode which is pretty brutal. So there's some replayability if you like a challenge. Also there's a sweet opening FMV with a bunch of robed monks crushing a bloody heart over Dracula's coffin to revive him.
@jruler935 жыл бұрын
It's pretty much just a PS1 remake of CV1.

i always had that question in my mind, what does speedrunners prefer? with RNG, or without? the RNG gives them that boost to try and get the best outcome at random, like a "treasure run", or they prefer a plain run that looks the same all the time, and the tiny little bits of improvements in the run that counts.
@Azureshock5 жыл бұрын
I'm currently under the impression that most speedrunners dislike RNG and aim to remove it when possible.

The original X68k version has 4 sound modes:FM/PCM (which is the standard X68k output), Midi for MT-32 and compatible, Midi for SC-55 and compatible and a hidden experimental General Midi mode. It seems there was another one included for Chronicles but this sounds like the FM version to me.
@RespectThePep5 жыл бұрын
ZeroTheEro the whole point of arrange mode was that it was a whole new soundtrack arrangement (with some minor tech changes too, as the runner explained). Basically it was a polished Castlevania 1 with funky new tunes

I'm pretty sure GDQ doesn't allow runners to use emulators. And emulation is the ONLY way you're ever gonna be able to play the 68k version. The Sharp X68000 machine is practically an heirloom at this point, it's THAT rare.

whats the difeence between any% and 100%???
@jamesfreeman90495 жыл бұрын
100% is getting all items like getting all heart containers and expasions for arrows and bombs in Zelda, any% is completing as fast as possible
@Gemini4765 жыл бұрын
There isn't any difference in this case since you need to do everything in the game anyway, but generally any% means that you just try to reach the credits as fast as possible regardless of the completion percentage getting there. 100%, meanwhile, generally means that you need to fully complete the game (or, at least, complete as much of it as the game tracks): for Pokémon this might mean that you actually need to Catch 'Em All, for Metroid you'd need to collect every last missile tank, for Zelda you'd need to get all the heart pieces, and so on. For some games this might be higher than 100%, though: for example, Hollow Knight currently goes to 115% due to DLC expansions. Note also that any% often skips a lot in service of going fast, even stuff that is ordinarily required: clever jumps to skip upgrades, shoddily programmed walls to skip bosses or entire areas, strange area transition glitches to jump straight from the first boss of Ocarina of Time to the final battle against Ganon, etc. etc.
@jruler935 жыл бұрын
Any% is just getting to the end as quickly possible. 100% is getting every optional collectable along the way.
@lowdefal63065 жыл бұрын
The game actually has 8 loops with increasing difficulty , all this talk of items is irrelevant since there are no collectibles just switching sub weapons.

@poopbuttmcgee5 жыл бұрын
NimNom123 Yeah that super polished product that was essentially just reused assets lumped on top of each other and an upside down world to pad out game length despite a majority of the map not being made with this in mind. I love SotN trust me but a polished product it is not.
