Awesome race! Curious about one thing: Unless I missed something it looked like Haxor used a P-wing on the map to overwrite the hammer suit he had gone out of his way to get. Any particular reason he did that?

Unless you go for the clips, the fastest and safer way to do 7-9 is by using the p-wing.

In reference to the question the couch had about buzzy beetles, NSMB Wii had exactly one buzzy beetle level, but that's the only other buzzy beetle level I can think of. Granted, I haven't played every NSMB clone game but still, that's the only one I know of.

The Haxor and Stewie_Cartman are getting way too much praise in my opinion. What about Mitch? His skills when it comes to Super Mario Bros. 3 are legendary and he is in my opinion the best Super Mario Bros. 3 player ever. He is incredibly skilled, consistent and always delivers on live shows. Go Mitch! :-D

I don't think I've ever seen Mitch lose a SMB 3 race. He's money in this situation. Also, if they're all playing the English version on the NES, why are the world names different between Haxor and the other two guys' screens?

There are two versions of the US release plus I believe EU also released in english. Each is technically a different version of the same game including each would have too be retranslated by local teams for their regions release.

Is it faster to swim under the boat in world 8? I know the kill plane is close but it can still be done.

Since the stage is a scrolling stage, no. Actually, I think it is a little bit slower since you're not killing enemies and that can lag the game, also, you have to climb back to the ship once you get to the boss pipe, and that can take a little bit of time.

It's not quicker. Since the level autoscrolls you'd have to get on the front of the pipe boat and play it normally to get into the room ASAP anyway. At high speedrunning level you'd rather just play the stage despite the risks to keep yourself engaged than cheese half of it, especially since it's a surprisingly tight cycle trying to get out of the water onto the front of the last boat without getting a large cannonball to the face. Going under the last boat costs several seconds as you have to wait for the back to scroll onscreen before you can get out of the water, so that's a no go.
