You've really got to admire the scope of this game, though. It's a third-person shooter/action-platformer with puzzles and adventure elements, featuring both linear and free-roam levels. I think that's why I loved it as a kid.

This game feels like a living breathing pop-up book. I love stuff in it like how you jump to a ledge on Coruscant and crawl through to some locked away section of a building but there's people standing around making you wonder what kind of seedy deals are going down. What kind of stories they have to tell. Felt very Star Wars.

There's a cool documentary/interview with a couple of the game's developers. They weren't allowed any drivable pod racers since Star Wars: Podracers was being made. Also, the team thought Panaka was going to be way more involved in the movie, and by the time they were able to read the final movie script, there wasn't time to change his role.

Regarding the in-game time explanation they were going for: RTA was 00:49:03.3, or 2943.3 seconds. IGT reads 0002:52:00 or 2520.0 seconds. The difference is 423.3 seconds. The IGT for the first level reads 100.3 s and in the video I count it from 0:43 to 2:24, or 43 s to 144 s. It doesn't seem to count loading or cutscenes in the time. Very handy.

Seeing your ship blow up and the pieces flying at you, helping the rebel forces in on Naboo, the weapon pick ups and blaster battles, the massive amounts of droids you can run at in Theed blew me away, and the iconic three-part battle at the end, plus Tatooine felt open world with lots of stuff going on.

Despite that stuff, TPM suffers from really harsh difficulty spikes, extremely punishing Bosses and game breaking glitches. One can see how its a rushed mess. If they had more time to work on it, it couldve been an instant PS1 classic.

@@ShorePlain I remember a review back in the day that said something along the lines of "The game isn't glitchy, it's the force." I am perfectly aware that it's objectively a bad game, but it's mainly on technical issues. I love the game for it's charm, interaction and character. A random NPC can be far more interesting that some of the characters in the actual movie. The voice acting isn't too bad for a late 90's game either, however I have a lot of love and nostalgia for that era of gaming.
