Would love to see Mario Kart DS on a future GDQ. I can only imagine speedruns for that game must be pretty fun to watch, given the almost constant turbo boosting you can get from snaking.

The run would be pretty intense though. Try snaking for more than an hour straight, it's physically demanding. I think it would be cool, especially if they manage to get a Prolonged Rocket Boost or if they can dodge some blue shells without items.

The chat was definitely meming for the most part. Unfortunately though, what he did in Grumble Volcano is considered a skip, which kind of invalidates this run (although it was already invalidated since he chose Strategic items instead of Balanced).

He bent the rules a bit to make the run more marathon safe, which is okay, I believe other runs have done this before. I can't really say the same for the Grumble Volcano skip, but I hope he didn't intentionally break the rule.

The competitive community actually still exists. There's even a league where we have 10 divisions in which 6 teams play in each division. So it's pretty large even if the original Nintendo servers have been discontinued. I primarily upload competitive stuff for MKW and there's even a site where all the player still hang around (MKBoards). So yeah, it's not a dead game lol.

Sure was. This could be done by the average 8500+ online points player. (back when it was active). There were a lot of shortcuts simply not used as well. (small time savers - but something a speedrunner usually does)

3/3 shroomless lake cut on toads factory, catching air to the ramp on mario circuit, 3 double cuts on dk summit, the sidewalk jump on daisy circuit, the grumble volcano rock hop, sand hop and wall glitch on dry dry ruins, low tricks, BC3 shortcuts... . its not as if you know about these things, you can just do them. they take some skilled maneuvering and hand eye control. you can see with something as seemingly simple as green shelling the shroomba on koopa cape. he missed a couple of times. JCool did some pretty impressive 'feats in this run. this game has some practicing and grinding involved if you want to be good at it. good run JCool114.

This guy was really bad at these tracks. I have done quite a bit better myself, not to mention how he did the volcano skip, he got hit by a car, and had to do strategic items. Why not just do time trials like most runs of mario kart at GDQ?

he said he wasnt even going to do the volcano skip but still did it to keep the run entertaining. sure, he got hit by one of the cars but he got hit right before a boost panel which meant he didn't lose too much time. strategic items actually helped him out so he could do 3/3 shortcuts.

Here's what's actually wrong with the run: -Strategic items instead of Balanced -The rock hop SKIP done on GV as the rock is out of bounds and I believe it skips a checkpoint, although I don't think it's a key checkpoint That being said, GV has 3 WR categories: Glitch, Shortcut, and No-glitch no-shortcut. Therefore the rock hop is considered a shortcut instead of a skip by the mkwii community. However an independent speed running-knowing guy would probably call that a skip. Even if the rock hop isn't a skip, the respawn is as it uses Lakitu manipulation.

there are 2 classes of karts.... karts, and bikes. Bikes are hugely advantageous because you can go faster. Best game :P
