I really like the improvements they made to the combat. In the first game it kind felt like an afterthought and didn't really flow with the rest of the game. The only stand out parts were the boss fights because those were really just another kind of psychic powers puzzle, but now this extends to the regular enemies too, with each adding a different dynamic to the fight (Censors as the goombas, Doubts can be TKed for their weights, Regrets can be detonated with Pyro).

Combat is an after thought for most 3D platformers tbh. Didn't feel all that different from other platformers like Banjo-Kazooie or Super Mario 64

@@gamerprince-tl5hg No I agree, and I certainly didn't knock the game for it. It was serviceable, not to mention that I often find that 3d platformers that try to have some sort of complex fighting system often fall flat. I was just observing how the combat here seems to more successfully integrate the central mechanics rather than exist apart from them.

Great opening level. I've been confident in the improved gameplay of Psychonauts 2 for a while, but still had concerns about the writing quality. I didn't like Broken Age at all. And while I thought the VR Psychonauts game was good, it didn't make me laugh like the first entry. This demo gives me a lot of confidence in the charm and humor now. Plus Jack Black's character sounds really fun. One small gripe I have is how Oleander explains what Censors are to Raz. He should already be familiar with them. I understand it's introducing the old concepts to new players or players who forgot the first game's elements, but I think those lines of dialogue could be a bit more clever.

i think you nailed it when you said for those like me who've never even played the 1st game and really until a year or two ago when it was at E3 for the 1st time i had never even heard of the game before as i was playing Game Cube back in the day when the 1st game came out

i am here after watching the Double Fine Documantary. Double Fine PsychOdyssey · EP24: “Best Teeth”. Tim and Jack are the best team. I really liked Brütal Legend. Man, what would i do to get a new Brütal Legend. Anyway, Psychonauts 1+2 were also pretty great.
