'03. The style of this review informed pretty much everything that came after it. A couple of years earlier, people would have expected a niche (then a niche of a niche) game to be broken. Back then, shitting on bad games was pretty much limited to big name flops like Daikatana. This was truly a milestone in a sense.

To developers: Was it worth it? Was selling an unfinished shit game worth it? Hopefully they didn't put this on their resume. 8 years later and 8 years from now, this will always be remembered as a terrible game. Making a "nothing special" game is waaay better than selling unfinished game. Mediocrity can be forgotten, but negligence sticks with people.

Well, Sergey Titov, the "lead" "designer" later worked on _"Gears of War"_ in some low-ranking position, and later went on to make _"The War Z"_ which was _slightly_ more playable than this, but made up for it by being a pay-to-win scam and was ultimately abandoned due Hollywood threatening to sue them over blatantly plagiarizing the title of _"World War Z"_ So yeah, they're pretty much going nowhere in life.

I'm sick to death of people saying ET on the Atari 2600 was the worst game ever. That game was made in the 1980s. so of course its not going to be exactly like the movie. Big Rigs, however, came out in the new millennium on PCs So there's no excuse.

@NatedogO33
@NatedogO33 10 жыл бұрын
Allan Hunt The only reason ET gets a bad rap was because of the hype behind the game. I wonder what fans were expecting. Consoles had limited capabilities in the 1980s. They were lucky all the other characters in that game, had more than 1 color to define who they were. Good grief, it did what it was supposed to do. The movie was about an alien who makes a freakin phone call. That's exactly what you do in the game. You build a phone, & go home. I don't know why people make such a big deal about those pits that ET falls in, either. They're not that hard to get out of.
@allanhunt6487
@allanhunt6487 10 жыл бұрын
...that's not what the movie was about at all? And you can't expect people to expect a game using graphics from 30 years ahead. They could, on the other hand, expect a game with characters (at least a little bit) and reasonable challenges, not a game which was near-impossible and intensely frustrating and badly programmed to the point of incompressibility. Wait, why am I even bothering?

This is the most important game ever made. It raises questions that few others do, such as "aren't we all just racing against ourselves anyway?" and "what would the world be like without police?" and "Wouldn't it be wonderful to not have the laws of physics?" It also makes us ask metaphysical questions with a clarity reminiscent of Descartes: What can I actually know about the world around me? Can I really trust what my eyes are seeing? If you want to expand your mind and wisdom, buy this game.

That's a plus for some people (like me). It makes you try so much harder to protect your character and actually plan your next move when you stand to lose everything. Also, if you find a tent you can set it up where you want and store your items there, so long as no one finds it and steals your stuff.
