The Spartan-II program kidnapped these soldiers since before they were 6 years old, and since that time they were trained to know ONLY war. And just before puberty, they were put under extreme physical and chemical enhancements and augmentations. Spartan-II soldiers had muscular enhancements caused by the blockers on a human's muscles being inhibited. They had a reaction time that was increased by 300% of a human's normal time, which allowed them to move with the armor and not try to counter the movement. Under intense stress, they can see the world in bullet time as well as real time. Simple KZbin searches can confirm this as there are many many videos showing the un-armored Spartan-IIs capabilities. They were a force to be reckoned with even without the Mjolnir platform.

Matt also does not mention the augmentations at all during the entire video, unless it was in the beginning, which I missed. It seems as if though the entire thing is run by the implant in Chief’s head. But then again, this is 5 years old, and perhaps Matt wasn’t invested in lore.

Okay, this actually kind of drove me crazy and I just had to know how this actually works. Upon extensive research through forums and official halo media I've come to the conclusion that Spartans can operate the armor without the Link. No cannon source that I could find actually states specifically whether or not this is required, but it seems to be the case based on a myriad of other factors. Some such cases being Spartans literally removing their helmets and still walking around, and being able to physically probably carry this armor around without it assisting their movements. I've also found that the advanced Spartan neural interface was first introduced alongside the Mark V series of armor, which means Chief and many other Spartans operated their equally heavy armor without this insanely fast link, they used the same one as Marines (Maybe still better but not even close to the Spartan one). If this were the case, the marine should have had no issue. It has to be that the physical strain of using it is simply too high, and that a high reaction time is required. He still only meant helpless inside the suit tho since he specifically mentioned needing the neural link to use it, the whole video is talking about severing that killing the wearer since the suit would uncontrollable. (Which yeah is still probably wrong), But I'm sure MatPat knew Spartans were crazy strong, and I respect your passion for Halo.

Nice video, but you extremely overlooked the very clear and very obvious real reason why Spartans die in a two punches in multiplayer (it takes more in campaign usually unless it's a really powerful enemy on a harder difficulty). It's really because they're getting punched BY OTHER SPARTANS. Spartans along with MJOLNIR augmentation pack such a punch that the MJOLNIR packs a bigger punch than it can handle in return. It can't take what it can dish out despite its incredibly strong protection.

I think the expert had the better idea. You are being hit by other people in 1 Ton Armor in Multiplayer. Each piece of armor is connected by flimsy material. One punch to the head with the weight of a spartan behind it is gonna give that 100 LB helmet a damn good knock, and the neck attached to it is unlikely to be prepared for that kind of whiplash.

Just imagine the sheer force if something the weight of a tank hits you as fast as a human punch. If Bruce Lee's punches and kicks could send regular people staggering (even flying) a few feet, imagine how that'd act upon other humans. Often, it is not the direct physical damage that kills people on high impacts. It's the sudden force.

The suit is waterproof, I dont actually know from where in the Halo universe the idea that is isnt waterproof would have come from, a Spartan can survive in outer space in their suit, theyre air-tight.

The closest thing to not being waterproof is that you cannot swim while wearing the suit, which is why during gameplay you die by falling into deep water, woulndt actually kill the Spartan theyd just have to slowly walk along the sea/river bed to get out.

Answer; Spartan armour is powered armour that greatly enhances the wearer's strength (they can flip over main battle tanks, for fuck's sake) and they die to one punch from *another spartan* only AFTER their shielding has been taken down by either other strikes or gunfire. Maybe one from the back by breaking the neck or spinal column. Against non-spartains they only get immediately taken down by an energy sword or a gravity hammer, both of which are extremely powerful. No other melee hits will take them out immediately.

+MGlBlaze Flipping tanks is what we call gameplay and story segregation. Seeing as a Scorpion tank weighs 66 tons, doing this is completely inconsistent with all other feats of strength performed by Spartans in-game and in the stories. Being able to flip vehicles at all was implemented with the Warthog and Mongoose in mind because those things have such a high center of gravity; this basically never happens with tanks outside of Forge mode. In actuality the armor's only supposed to provide a couple tons' worth of lift force, which is still probably enough to do some damage.

I've never found it weird that the spartans can be killed with a punch from another spartan or a Sangheili. Seriously, these opponents are just as huge as Chief and in the terms of the Elites, even bigger. You know what a full bodied knight's worst nightmare was? A mace. A blunt object slamming into the helmet, causes blunt force trauma and brain hemorrhaging. Super suit or no super suit, having your brain slosh around after a literal walking tank just punched you into the wall isn't good.

Cdtforerunner that was exactly what I was thinking. The suits were obviously made to boost strength and give more protection. The suits with their weight would also most likely have quite the lack of ability to accelerate, so the armor (and John's arm) would ram straight into the back of the enemy's head. (Also the reason i never commented 3 months ago when this first came out cuz i had no channel.)

No, cause this is Spartan vs. Spartan. So it'll be as equal as a human vs. human or a snail vs. a snail. I was at first annoyed that Pat doesnt told the armorer guy about the fact of modified body of Spartans, but in the end Pat talks about it. So it wasnt the suit that was made for Spartans, but the Spartans that were made for the suit, as normal unmodified human would be crushed to death by the heavy and responsive armor. So they need a being that capable enough of enduring the crushing and able to sync with the armor. Born Spartans.

So hes basically saying that when the neural connection is broken the suit collapses, killing the user. Similar to a major car accident where the driver isnt killed by g-forces but by being crushed by the car crumbling and folding in in itself.

He started out this video sounding like he was pretty together... and then as he stood next to the expert, he just talked himself into idiot status. Parts of this were cringe worthy. Also, the suit has no neural connection to the wearer's brain. If you actually watched The Fall of Reach, you'd hear Halsy talk about why the suit failed prior generations and why John was different. Thanks to all the upgrades John had as far as strengthening not only his muscles, bones, eyesight, and endurance, John has the ability to not have his joints snapped in half if the suit over extends or keeps going when it's not supposed to thanks to stronger bones, and stronger muscles. The suit is designed to take the movement of your body, and multiply it. Meaning, As you make a move, it makes that move easier. However, Human's frail bodies were able to withstand the start of that motion, not the ending of it. The Suit doesn't know when to stop trying to help you, and thus snaps your arm... or snaps your wrist... etc etc etc. That was the reason for giving Spartans all the extra upgrades in the first place. If the suit could do everything for them without the upgrades, then you could just be like Iron Man and anyone could step inside and be super. Lastly, To answer your question to the video ... which at this point after watching half of the video it seems like click bait... The reason you can Melee someone is the same reasoning as if we stuck an egg inside of Titanium cylinder. For reference sake, let's assume that there is padding on the top and bottom and between the walls and the egg. When the cylinder takes an blunt force trauma impact (being punched in the face), the inertia is going to be carried through the object. This means, that even if the armor were to stop the fact that you got punched, you would still feel the impact inside the suit because of inertia (Newton's third law). Do this enough, or cause enough trauma to the fragile object inside, and it will result in a broken egg... or in the case of Halo, A Dead Spartan. Now, think about how hard a suit can hit. Take that force and apply it going through another Spartan. Do you think that all that armor is really going to stop a Melee? No. Thus, there is no flaw. It's just Physics. The only way to completely negate physics is to keep an object from ever actually hitting you. If you can figure out how to do that, DARPA would love to talk to you, because you'd probably figure out how to end war... or make our soldiers invincible.
