@@MindYourBusiness1970 Actually they're nothing like each other. Majority of laptop problems are charger related, hinge related or liquid damage. Majority of desktop problems are Vcore related, bios related or socket damage. When do you ever see socket repair on a laptop....never because they don't have them. So many faults on laptops are along the 20v rail, but so many on pc's are less than 1.5, again, vcore. So many faults on a laptop can be corrected just by unplugging the battery, when do you see that on a desktop ? My current desktop mobo is one that came to me broken....all that was wrong was that the bios jumper was on backwards...when do you ever see that on a laptop ?

tips for others about pc motherboards: -after you fix bend pins, you should test each ram slot if is working fine. (very ofter fixed pins are not perfect and then some of the slots are not working) -when you see thermal paste under processor, then you have to clean the pins in the socket as well by using soft bursh and alcohol. Look what Sorin left at 25:39 left bottom corner)

@@steinbauge4591 yeah, I can't get it - why he missed that dirty spot on the pins. Maybe he is affraid to touch pins with brush. But if you spray those pins with alcohol and use soft brush (paintbrush) with gently moves - it will impossible to bent them.

I had this exact same board which I bought £10 from ebay to see if I could fix it. I can't remember exactly now but it had a short to ground I think on the 3.3. At first I thought it was a mosfet because it was getting red hot but after I removed it, the board was still dead short. I injected 3.3 directly into the board and the chipset got red hot....therefore I concluded the chipset was shorted and I gave up. More desktop motherboard repairs please Sorin :)

I've watched a few amateurs' build their first PC, and they seem to almost always drop the CPU on the socket when trying to install it. They think it's fine, because at first glance things look ok, but this is how the pins bend. Of course they only bend a tiny bit by that drop, but after the force of the socket clamp-down they fold under like that.
@christechtime42972 жыл бұрын
I have built a lot of computers and only switched to intel recently and I have been dealing with bent pins. There is only one way it can go in and I didn't drop the processor and still somehow I deal with bent pins. I wonder if they stick to bottom of chip. It has been tragic, dealing with no post condition. After cmos reset and reseating e errthing there is generally no clues other than dead mobo. But you should be able to get bios, or so they say, and this is what happened here. Generally you cam rma the board and they will refuse free swap, so you go off of what people tell you and this is what happens. Great video thanks

i had to repair a bit of a white elephant dvd -ram (not dvd-rom) drive quite a few years ago that had a few missing pads - as it was a sort of fix now as its urgent and worry about it later I replaced the pads successfully with carefully cut pieces of copper tape the type gardeners use to deter slugs - it took the solder well and was able to easily connect the traces to them the drive ran until dvd-ram disks were no longer easily available
