You half the resolution by placing blocking bars vertically a bit over the screen, and then rip the displayed image into these same bars, every other only visible to the left eye rendering from a virtual camera a bit to the left, and the same thing with a virtual camera a bit more to the right for the rest of the bars of the screen not rendered for the left eye already. Oh yes.., the virtual boy! I remember long ago.., at ye ol blockbuster one weekend. I went to rent a n64 because it just came out and they still had a virtual boy on display and getting to play that system changed my life forever!!! Since that day, the last vision I’ve ever had is a red tennis ball getting smacked towards me in “3D”! I’ve always wondered how life like and realistic the n64 ended up being!

The wiiU was a great entry into streaming to a handheld. If you were playing a non extra screen intensive game it was no problem to give up the TV and play on the handheld screen

the 3d effect on the new 3ds devices is the best 3d gaming experience you can get. no barriers, stable image, the depth is easily adjustable and you can turn it on and off with a hardware slider, i just love it so much. is it necessary? not really. is it fun, adds something unique to the games and is still impressive in 2025 because there is no other piece of hardware that can do the same thing? absolutely ❤ if a nintendo switch in the future offers the same or better 3d i would easily pay 500 €. i have sold my switch long ago, the n3ds will stay with me forever.

I would say a plug and play is any game console with most or all games being built in, so in my book, my homebrewed wii with all my totally legal wii and GameCube games backed up on an external harddrive is the ultimate plug and play.

Y'know, on the subject of 3D TVs and Sony's "Split screen" method for multiplayer, I kinda wonder why Sony didn't consider allowing multiplayer ala the PSVR. Like one player gets the TV, the other gets the VR displaying the game. In terms of rendering it's easier on the system than a full VR game so I could see it working as a novelty and possibly a future method of gaming if they could do multiple headsets per system.

Skylanders released for PC? I can almost guarantee no one paid to unlock characters. There are way too many "trainers" that allow you to cheat on any PC game like the GameShark for N64 and original PlayStation. I remember spending literal hours adding cheat codes to my GameShark. I typically used it to screw around once I had beat a title, but I ended up using it a bunch on titles that were either too difficult or to explore the closest things we had to an "open world" game.

Remember when xbox fanboys tried telling us that the 360 sales were comparable to PS3 sales? They called it a "console war" because they either weren't intelligent enough to look up worldwide sales numbers, or they were so desperate for the xbox to seem as if it was competition, rather than a company that thinks it can buy success instead of building it like Sony and Nintendo did. I enjoyed the 360 Elite as much as anybody. However, I didn't deny reality, or avoid the simplest of google searches in oder to tell lies about its sale numbers. I still see xbox the same way I saw them when they announced the OG xbox. They try to buy and force their way into the gaming community to make money, instead of having a genuine love and interest for it that they could relate to the community with in order to produce great products.

Couldn't disagree more on the wiiu, the screen on the controller was often not necessary to play the games and in Monster hunter tri ultimate in particular you had your inventory, or your map on that screen, Microphone and volume and it worked well. I've never played my switch in non docked mode, because the controllers are awful. The Only game i found the wiiu controller awful for was starfox, which nintendo has yet to figure out how to give us another starfox 64, so i dont put that on the controller.
