Difference between gaming headset and headphone companies 1) •) gaming headset companies try to improve ther features, looks and software •) headphone companies on the other hand try to improve there sound quality and comfort only 2) •) gaming headset companies on there website usually advertise the features , battery life , comfort and other useful gimmicks like virtual "7.1" •) headphone companies on their website usually advertise there specially tuned drivers there sound quality there comfort and materials used

I recently changed from my Arctis 5's which i've been using for a few years to the Phillips Fidelio X2 and V-Moda mic, the jump in audio quality is massive, the open backed nature of the X2's presents a fantastic soundstage, the V-Moda mic is like nothing i've tried so far, the combo destroys the Steelseries in every way. As for your reasoning as to why you prefer gaming headsets clearly isn't based on audio quality but as you said its easier to buy from the shelf, i'd say take a little bit more care and you'll be rewarded, I couldn't ever go back to a gaming headset ever again.

The biggest thing you will notice going to an audiophile setup is the musical qualities and natural tones they will bring to the table. Things just sound "better". I have been switching back and forth for years and other than the really high end gaming headsets ($200++) you will not get anywhere near the musical qualities of a $150 audiophile headset. They are not crazy hard to drive but do benefit from an amp both in terms of volume level and sound quality. Another thing is the long term durability of audiophile headsets, they are simply on another level and may last you years. There are people using their original HD 600's for over 20 years with minor parts replacements. Gaming headsets typically break on me in under 1.5 years usually due to the wire getting loose in the left earcup. Where gaming headsets win, besides price and simplicity, is IN GAME sound. You see pros use HyperX series headphones in FPS shooters for a reason. They just work. Mids and highs are a bit boosted and you can really get a sense of footsteps and audio cues. They are TUNED for this. It is almost the opposite of what makes music sound good. So choose wisely, or get both.

@I M They are both good in their own rights. Sound is very subjective. For example, when Techne talks about Beyerdynamic having 'screechy 'highs, I don't get that at all from them. You'll just have to weigh it up for yourself. Do you want wireless freedom or better for more than just gaming. Both sound great imo. Also you have to factor in an amp for the Beyers unless you get the 80 or 32 ohm version. Even the 80ohm likes an amp to an extent.

Regarding open back, it really depends what you're used to. I had never realised my basic gaming headphone I've had for over 5 years was an open back design. Recently I wanted something with a mic attached, and after looking at a million option I got a closed back. Man, it took me a looong time to get used to it, and I did not enjoy it one bit, now it's about ok, but I know I'll get rid of it eventually and go back to open back. That clostro feeling, not being able to hear when your partner asks you something, fishtank feeling. It's not ideal for myself at all, did not realise until then I preferred an open back.

Having a weight around your head is already a nuisance , adding more wires makes everything almost intolerable after a long hours of use. I upgraded my sound when i bought my series x. My reasoning after watching your reviews was to go for the best possible sound considering my budget. Choose to go 3.5 instead of wireless and buy a quality pair of headphones/headset. Functions are cool and all, but soundquality was my priority. Got the ath-g1 wired and an blasterx g6 dac/amp for around 250 dollars (2500 swedish kr). Holy shit the sound is crazy good. Play a ton of battlefield, hitman, destiny, cs:go(pc) and other games and i love it. Also got dolby atmos. @@markcarrico5206 I watched zeos reviews on youtube and decided I wanted better headphones. If you check the audiophile guys they all say that regular headphones are better, gaming headsets are only regular headphones with some features or a mic added. Check his different fostex reviews, they are easy to mod with different earpads etc. The impedence is like 50, but they are power-hungry, not for mobile use. The g6 drives them good and I love them both for music and gaming. Started listening to music on tidal and it opened a new world of enjoying music. I really recommend getting the fostex t50rp, zmf lambskin earpads (or other earpads because the regular sucks) and a vmoda boom mic. To bad the mic on the g6 doesn’t work with Xbox, so when I chat in a party I can’t use the fostex because the controller won’t run them good enough. But I play a lot of bf1, destiny2 and csgo on pc and I can never go back to the ath1. Long answer, but getting better headphones have really made me appreciate music and sound in another way. The ath-g1 was good with the g6. But when I got my fostex and started to compared them, the ath-g1 sound weak and to focused on highs.

@@oldandslow8994 Even on flat EQ? You could’ve gotten a faulty headset(but maybe not). I know the pro wireless had issues like that since the drivers aren’t as good as the pro wired but that’s to be expected in wireless. My wired Arctis haven’t had any issues with distortion in heavy bass. Due note that bass frequency doesn’t distort audio but volume does.

I’ve been gaming with my Bowers & Wilkins P7. I got them back in 2014 just to use as a regular pair of headphones for music. Ended up really liking them for games, music, and more recently movies. I have them plugged into a JDS Atom stack and it’s been great. If I upgrade my headphones, I’d probably get the DT 1990. I’m not really into gaming headsets. I don’t really need any gaming features. open back vs closed back is definitely personal preference. for me, having open back is really nice. much more breathable and comfortable not having pressure in your ears. I don't have a noise house, and my computer is really quiet. I like being able to hear if my dog is getting into something etc. I also have a very hard time talking in a mic in closed back, I've never been able to string words together if I can't hear my self. I have the Phillips SPH9500 for $80 CAD, and powered by a FX-audio DAC-X6 for $65 USD, and a modmic for $60 CAD. Really great budget set up.

I swear by my open-backed Sennheiser Game One for gaming but I understand that not everyone plays in an environment that works well for open cans. Not only do they provide a wide sound stage but they're extremely breathable. I can wear them for hours and my ears barely warm up at all. The microphone is also top notch (for a headset). I have some closed headsets I like a lot too though. The HyperX Cloud Alpha is a great wired headset and the RIG 800HD is still my favorite wireless headset because it's insanely lightweight and has a very balanced sound. It's just hard to recommend because it's not really sold anywhere anymore.

Gaming headsets and cheaper studio headphones are more Hi Fidelity giving a more richer / colour to the different frequency ranges

I disagree with a lot of the stuff he says here when I got the dt990 (the only reason I got them was that the Hd 600 were too expensive) they were the best thing since sliced bread. Yea the high end is higher than usual but it is well represented and does not get rid of the base (very balanced). and open backs were a way better experience because of the sound stage, you can hear things that you would never hear with gaming headsets in games and music. but one of the best things bout it is the fit, studio headphones are built to be worn for hours at a time and built to breathe and be lightweight and they do it right lots of them just float on top of your head with little listening fatigue

hey techne, love the take on the video, it's very honest. With regards to the Auido interafces or amps, I think you can buy a 50-80 dollar audio interface and connect your headphones to the computer that way. I know, it's 80 extra dollars but it gives you the phantom power needed to make it sound even more beautiful like you said on the video. I think it's not too bad as long as you don't mind spending about 1 hour following some youtube guides LOL. I have my m50x connected to a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 for music and gaming. It's great. On the other hand, a gaming headset is very convenient because it is plug-and-play like you said. that's probably its biggest appeal to me, to be honest.

Ohm is the resistance to the current that means that you need to have over 250amps to get the headset working. This is great for audio for reason that i dont know enough put now you have a basic understanding of the ohms. Voltage is pure power

Alright so I'm commenting here as somebody who has 5 audiophile grade headphones (Sennheiser HD 560s, Sennheiser HD 650, Beyerdynamic DT990 600 ohm, Beyerdynamic DT1990, and Hifiman Sundara) as well as a single pair of Logitech G Pro X headphones. For gaming, specifically shooters, I much prefer the close-backed Logitech headphones. The sealing off of the environment around you really does help locate people and footsteps in game. Now, for open world RPGs where that kind of stuff isn't as important, I'll usually always go with either my Sundara or my DT1990 because they open up the environment around you with bigger soundstage. To me, there is a very noticeable difference between the open and closed back performance in both shooters and open world games. I run all my headphones through a modi 3 and Asgard 3 stack. Music? Yeahhhh no comparison. Open backs win every time against close backed headphones. Just my two cents.

Ive had some from both categories and some gaming headsets are tuned way better for game audio. For example the dt770s are good but have basically really recessed mids (upper vocal range). And the m50xs are good for music but have literally 0 soundstage and really boomy mid kick bass. The hyperx hadsets offee great value for a cheap price and pretty good audio tuning for games and music. Some have too much of that mid bass tho.

@Browncoatful 10 ай бұрын
@@alrizo1115 DT 770s are honestly not that bad for gaming. The DT 880 and even DT 990 are probably a bit better for gaming as far as Beyerdynamics and close to the same price. But as Beyerdyanmics, the DT 900 pro x is the best for gaming and are only 32 ohms so less amp dependent. As for Senhiser, HD 560 is a solid one for gaming but some love the HD 600 or 650. Just keep in mind that with many of these you need to have an amp that can power them in order to get the full benefit out of them. Even the DT 900s do much better with an amp despite only being 32 ohms. Gaming headsets meanwhile will have a built-in amp or software to compensate but typically do not sound nearly as good and are very bass-heavy. However, many audiophile headphones can be too neutral for gaming such as the HD 600 so Its a give and take when it comes to headphones v headsets. Though personally I feel headphones are more enjoyable, there is an argument for headsets for gaming in terms of budget and convenience. Honestly, hyperx cloud is good option as it is surprisingly well balanced for a gaming headsets and really good battery.

are the highs as piercing as the 770's/990's?

@@TheTechne The sounds are about the same as the 770s. 990s will have more sibilance (;-;) and will have more piercing highs. It should be about on par with a dt770 32ohm, albeit with an attached microphone. So it will have those piercing highs here and there.

@@TheTechne I've heard that they're not as piercing as those other Beyers.

@@TheTechne no the highs are cut down it's not unusable like that of dt990 and dt770 it's one of the most widest sounding closed back and it's having lazer sharp imaging so it's good for gaming it's a V shaped headphone , the high are not that piercing still the highs are present if u r planning to try em then pls buy dekoni choice leather pads(40) along with the headset it will make them sound even better it will get around 300$ when u add those pads, those pads r imp, it's a direct competition to steelseries arctis pro wired for couple more bucks so pls try these I am suggesting u this headset because it's a closed back pair , it's one of the best closed back around that price for gaming and even for music and movies , they r really immersive ,they r easy to drive 32ohms no need of an amp still great with a solid state amp to get more of that umph , it's a nice package , really comfortable (stinkin cozy) it's not feature rich like the arctis pro but still it does what it's meant to do better than any other headset , it's simple ,premium looking, good enough build , excellent audio for every use case , no RGB , dekoni pads = must , if u didn't like em just return it , the highs r not as sharp as the dt series of headphones , class leading mic . After everything u said about ur preferences this is the only pair that came to my mind so pls try them (if u hate them then replace it ) one of my favourite "closed back" headphone/headset for gaming and music 👍 keep making such awesome content , all the best 👍
