GAMING NEWS - GT Sport offline - What does this mean for game preservation?

So what's your take on games going end of life and becoming offline only? What do you regard as game preservation? I would live to know in the comment section below.

I guess that scenario is still acceptable to an extent - what I don't think is on is them simply making games completely unplayable. When my kids got to an age where they could start playing some games, I thought I'd dust off the old PS3 and my Logitech Wheel and pedal set and let them have a go on GT (had all the PS3 version) - only to find out the games are completely bricked - cannot even start the games up and play some demo tracks - nada - just dead.

Games should have offline mode available from day one.

I prefer games that aren't online dependent unless they're designed to be that way like MMOs, battle royals, etc. The only time I have issue is when modes that can be played offline are made online only

I'm very much into game preservation and still play a lot of my old games on past generation consoles , maybe it's down to nostalgia and being old 😂 but still look forward to new releases.

PS Plus being so expensive gives no reason to kill off support for online games, if less people play they should just allocate less resources to that older game rather than killing it off entirely. Terrible choice that they aren't even going to do an offline patch for GTS, it's one of four PS4 games I actually have a physical copy of, so one of those has already become a paperweight...

That's why I didn't buy Gran Turismo Sport, and that's why I'm not going to buy Gran Turismo 7, they're games with an expiration date, I'm not throwing my money away.

I'm having a hard time finding games that can be played offline. I no longer have a PS account or play online. I just want single player games for my PS4. Any suggestions for me?

Project Cars 2 servers are still up, even though the game is delisted and dead.

I get that people want all of the physical things and of course they would, they are awesome! But to me, since I am not a collector, as long as I can actually play the game whenever I want, I am satisfied :) And having an offline patch for GT Sport ensures that so I am very happy with Polyphony Digital :) (Now, I do like having physical copies of my very favorite games. But that's for another day :) )

Personally I'm gutted they're dropping GT Sport. So many brilliant memories racing with this wonderful community on that game. I still watch those GT Royale streams sometimes, especially when I was actually competing at the front and winning a couple 😉. Maybe one last hurrah before it goes for good? I do hope they bring that lobby option to GT7, though. Absolutely love the GT Royale concept.

That means no campaign right? no saved progress no unlocking new cars,i mean if you try to play gt sport without psn account connected the campaign is locked

GT Sport has no campaign.

There needs to be an audience ofcourse to keep online servers going. So a large community is needed to keep a old game online. So with everything getting to be a online game. It's hard to keep the servers going ofcourse. Costing electricity and maintenance. Game preservation shall be limited to what the game community supports with money ofcourse.

Yes it’s been patched, u can play the full game offline now.

It's interesting to hear someone saying GT Sport is a offline game, because compared to GT7, GT Sport has triple the content for offline play. GT7 feels like a glorified techdemo of what an offline campaign would be. I wish GT6 had been ported to PS4, considering how good that game is and sadly they were migrating to online games, and GT7 is the peak of that idealism, of a game where 80% of it's content is online. Imagine you only want to play races alone and be happy but you have to download 140GB of content where only 40GB is meant for offline, the rest is padding you need to download to play becasue you can't play the game only with the offline content either way, and you can't be truly offline or the game won't even let you play the offline campaign, as barebones as it is, they managed to create a smaller demo version that is boring as fucking hell. I really worry for the state of GT, because online is fun, but if you make your game a game that is only online, and still charges 70USD for people to buy it instead of just a subscription to play it monthly, you're no different than Square Enix with FF14 which I already think it's horrible practice (forcing me to buy the files of the game, and gatekeeping me of playing it unless I also pay a subscription). Either way, that's how I feel with GT7. I felt better with GT Sport.

Yes you can play offline the single player drive school etc, they patched so the game won’t be like the crew. I’m currently playing it on ps5 disc

Hi Jason, how are you. Just one question. How will the offline work. What i mean is, Will you have to update the game for it to become offline. And will you still need an internet connection to play the game offline. cause some games that say there offline, Still need an internet connection. I would love to be able to play this game, I paid £50 from new and i have never played the career mode.
