They do have a bit of lore info about the DataKrash destroying the newer systems, and I think some of the computers at that station have some corrupted stuff on them that may/may not have been caused by the DataKrash (the destruction of the old net and many attached systems), it could be that they brought in the punch card system to get things working again, but ended up not being profitable or successful after all the issues created by the DataKrash and that would also explain why its abandoned and shut down now, seemingly rather abruptly.
@HowardOffTheRails
@HowardOffTheRails Ай бұрын
@@Ridiric an excellent theory. I saw that stuff in the terminals but decided not to include it. Perhaps I should have, what you say sounds entirely plausible why they’d revert to punched cards.

The DataKrash is indeed the reason why the punch cards made a comeback in certain systems. Good job Bartmoss, fragmenting the internet and stuff.

What a fantastic idea for a channel. Reminds me of the British gun museum guy who breaks down real and fictional guns in shooters. I only have a passing interest in this kind of thing but play a lot of games so still enjoy it enough to subscribe. However my dad’s a gamer and is fanatical about trains, he literally dreams about them every night, so I’ll definitely send your channel to him. Keep up the great work!

Cyberpunk 2077 as well as many other games have so many cool details that the devs put a lot of time into. Most of the people who play through these games will probably not even think about the railways. Im really thankful for you making videos like these, as they really make me appreciate all the work that has been put into these games we all know and love. Great video👍
@HowardOffTheRails
@HowardOffTheRails Ай бұрын
Exactly. someone has had to sit there with no background in railways and research endlessly to come up with not just a reasonable system of operation, but also a history and a story, and a functional system that can be used in a mission. it's really admirable work. Game devs have to have an appreciation of infrastructure, firearms, architecture etc etc to come up with this stuff. dedicated bunch.

The idea of punchcard operated machinery goes back into the early 19th century, with a Frenchman called Jaquard, who designed a system of a series of holed cards or plaques linked together to instruct silk weaving looms on the thread pattern in fine fabric- making the operation of the loom a less skilled job. Instead of elecrical contacts it used spring loaded pins connected to leavers, which intern controled what are called "the heddle frame" that the warp threads went through.

Using punchcards to guide an automated Maglev system for freight is the most backwards thing you can have. Nice detailed video :)

I think its worth noting that cyberpunk is very much a retro-futurism setting, due to how long ago it was first developed. Punch cards then were pretty contemporary, and fit as a slightly older system, as opposed to now where they come off as extremely archaic and not even as simple as some systems we could make now
@imjohnfreeman
@imjohnfreeman 28 күн бұрын
I reckon the aesthetic is a bit muddled in that regard, with the devs neither fully committing to 2020's retrofuturism nor more contemporary visions of the future.
@michaelkolano8686
@michaelkolano8686 28 күн бұрын
Well I think it's also a bit stuck, where they can't commit to either without alienating one side. If they try to modernize they'll be no different than every other future setting, but if they go with retrofuturism it may be campy and lose some broad market appeal (not an issue to me honestly, trying to market to the common denominator just makes things mediocre)

Wow i discovered your channel and suscribed inmediately! I used to love trains as a kid..... BUT one day those bad influences (TANKS) enter in my life and never left............Nevertheless i still love trains and usually spend absurd amounts of time watching things of trains from diferent games or universes.... For example Fallout 3 new vegas and clasic ones trains had logic..........On the other hand FO 4 trains......WELL BTW, could you analice the Aurora locomotovie of Metro exodus and its difierent rail systems of the diferent games such as the armored trains (makeshift armored stuff wich idk if it could work or nope).... BUT the Aurora train has an interesting thing: Ingame they explain you that it was a post war (ww2) steam engine modified with injectors and stuff to burn anything including Petrol, diesel etc... and it has its logic but its weird. And also, soviet and chinese comunist era steam trains are interesting too because apparently both make enormous bunkers and stuff to maintain them even after a nuclear exchange, in wich resources would be dire.......And its interesting to me, remembers me BSG, when they keep the old Viper Space fighters because they relay in a lot of analogic tech that can,t be hacked by cylons or brake by EMP,s. And thats the thing, i dont see anyone making vids about this Soviet/ chinese, Fallout style train systems, and its interesting, both for historical porpouses, worldbuilding... etc. Last but not least, thx so much for your vids! i want to encourage u to make more, and im sorry if anythin of my Ainglish its bad or somethin, Bcuz its not my First language :P Btw what,s your favourite diesel Locomotovie? Mine its The American Alco PA 1 and PA 2, just because its iconic and looks cool, BUT my most loved ones are the Old RENFE green and yellow ones that we used decades ago.

@@bocktordaytona5656 thanks for the encouraging comment! If you’ve not already found the Bovington Tank Museum channel, I highly recommend that! I plan to continue railway gaming reviews as a long running series and I have added your suggestion to the list, I’ll do some research and probably play it first. I also plan to do a series on military and armoured trains, and artillery railway guns etc, as I also like these and the history. I have seen lots of German stuff but never seen the soviet/ Chinese trains but now that I know, I’ll be looking into it. This is why the comments section is so valuable, thanks for the information and suggestions, I’m just starting out on KZbin so it helps. Thanks, Howard.

@@HowardOffTheRails Yep I know them they have lots of tonks including weird specimens such as the German ww1 brick tank, and my moat loved one: the Is3... And yep actually I will have to search on Yt a video that I watch months ago about urban explorers wich where trying to find and then exploring an abandoned Chinese Underground facility to repair and maintain trains. That it's pretty interesting to me because trains are essential after the industrial revolution for shipping things, or people and in postapocaliptic worlds such as metro, Fallout... etc they should have a lot of importance. I mean, we all know train heists in the american west... and in starwars apparently... so in post apoc worlds trains should have the same importance connecting cities such as it was for America on those years.... And obviously maintaining the machines and railways should be super important also. Just with that you have enough material to create interesting stories characters, adventures and whatnot. For example: This is not a train heist... but one of the Hands down coolest stories about trains it was the crew of the Zaamurets armored train :O

Those maglev tracks are unpowered aren't they? I mean our fat yellow, soviet friend here carries two compact nuclear reactors onboard, without a doubt to supply itself and the freight wagons with energy to....levitate. Passive Maglev track system so to say. Which makes sense, since you just encase whatever has to work against the propulsion system to make this 200 ton heavy bastard and it's comrades float around, with concrete and therefore lower the risk of getting dismantled by Scavengers and Nomads the moment you turn around to sign some paperwork. On another note, this video was a nice find. If you plan to analyze more video game train shenanigans, maybe get your eyes on the jolly abomination that we all love, the Aurora from Metro Exodus.

One of the many things that I dislike about the design is that on a engeneering aspect, it doesn't make sense, if it is a Transrapid Maglev why it has a atomic locomotive, and why the tracks are on the ground?
@michaelkolano8686
@michaelkolano8686 Ай бұрын
Potentially the engine is the thing supplying power to the magnets, rather than the rails themselves being powered. And as for still being on the ground, it's far cheaper to build, if you don't have to make elaborate pillars, arches, and bridges. And actual flight might take magnitudes more power
