The greed and a lack of courage and heart seen in many companies are at the core of what is killing the industry. I used to think video games were not really works of art due to this decline, but now I realise it is just a similar situation with the world of literature, moviemaking, and the arts in general. I am glad to see that indie developers, writers, and artists are proving me wrong, and showing that there's still art out there. Halo ODST and Halo Reach feel different because they are different types of stories. Yet, they still fit without much issue inside the broader universe of that IP. While Bungie nowadays is not the Bungie of Halo 1 to Reach, I will always be grateful for what they gave us with these titles. Some of them are more fun than others, we all have our favourites (mine being Reach) and weak ones (I always felt the final act of Halo 3 felt rushed), but there's a lot of love put in all of them and a lot of 'understanding' of what works in that setting gameplay-wise and lore-wise. 343i has always struggled with the latter, IMHO, and this got only worse over time, it seems. I don't want Halo to end up either being abandoned or turning into a paraded corpse. My hope is that good developers, dedicated developers, be they indie teams or big names, can try new intriguing things with the gameplay and write stories that fit the original lore and themes of the series. I don't think we'll ever have unique experiences such as ODST, or grand stories such as Halo 1 to 3, but I want to see more stories set in that universe, be they big or small-scale ones. p.s.: engineers are both cute and freaky at the same time, ngl.

@cloneddragonАй бұрын
This is pretty on point but I would like to also add that games changing from being a neich entertainment industry to the largest in the world shifted who funded them and who was put in charge. it used to be studios were lead by veterans of their studios while now its business majors and investors. those with the most power in a games trajectory don't care about the quality of it, just how much money it makes. its why there's so many sequels and monetized to hell games now.

Oh no, don’t get it wrong. It’s a good game, but it’s not the messiah. People just finally ran out of money after covid and decided to play other games instead of burning it on skins. Now they just burn their money on skins and other crap in other games like helldivers. It’s no different. They’ll probably get the flamethrowers back out in another few months buying the entire stores of the next cod, while saying they hated it despite spending thousands of dollars, and this will be for nothing. These companies are going to give you exactly what you want, and the truth is that people don’t always like looking in the mirror to see what they are. Eventually things had to collapse and it’s about time because the solution was always to do something else and play better games, but the damage is done and the people are pretentious liars who enjoy the smell of gasoline. I must admit, the fires smell pretty awful. Maybe next time you’ll have some restraint, but I doubt it. People are cowards who follow the narrative regardless of if it’s a good or bad idea. They just want to fit in, and that’s fine by me. Long as the people burn too.

@@3ofSpades eh at least helldivers doesnt run on things like "microtransactions" (not micro at all) or battle passes, and the game itself is designed agaisnt toxicity and is pretty good.
@vincentsavoretti22012 ай бұрын
@@3ofSpades I highly doubt I'll get an even remotely intelligent reply to this, but here we go. 1.) Nobody said it was "the messiah," you're already getting uppity over an assumption. Sign number one that you're all talk and no real opinion. I'm going to guess that you're angry at Helldivers for being popular with no actual argument to back it up. 2.) Covid ended a while ago, this has nothing to do with that. Other games also cost money, a fact that I know might be difficult for somebody like you to understand, but in no way does anything you talked about or made up correlate to people running out of money. You also go immediately into saying they'll buy skins in other games.. Because they ran out of money to buy skins? Do you even know what you're talking about? It's already obvious you don't know the facts enough to form an actual opinion, but do you even understand the words you just wrote? I could end it here and you already look like an idiot, but let's keep going. 3.) Very few of the people that buy "the next CoD" say that they hate it. You're taking a vocal minority and assuming it's a majority because it makes the most noise. This is what uneducated people do, and coincidentally is also the main cause of CEOs thinking the direction gaming has gone is a good one, despite every release getting a lukewarm reception at best. Again, because the majority is not buying them. Just a vocal minority. There's almost 9 BILLION people on Earth. Only 10% of that 9 billion is 900,000,000 (nine-hundred million) which is just shy of a solid billion people. Do you have any, ANY idea how many people 1 billion really is? 4.) The companies ARE going to sell people what they want, yes, this is probably the only thing you said that wasn't pulled directly out of your ass and placed onto a golden pedestal. It's also only half right, the companies sell people what the companies THINK people want, and it's akin to saying the sky is blue and acting like you have some grand insight. See the vocal minority point if you need an explanation for why this is important. 5.) There's been a small but noticeable uptick in games being released that are actually pretty cool, this is very recent but enough to establish a trend. Things that remind me of where I thought gaming was going to go. This is a direct response to people doing something else and playing better games like you're suggesting. In many cases going back to older games, like this video right here. Notice the inundation of retrospectives on the classics, read the responses to them, and then re-read points 3 and 4. 6.) The "damage" you're talking about is far from done, you just have no imagination and can't imagine how much worse it could be. Which, again, is being avoided as we speak by nothing more than nostalgia from gamers and devs. Imagine where that could go when it's powered by more than just nostalgia. We only just started seeing this, so I'll admit I can't give you any guarantees. Your pretentious liars comment is also covered by my vocal minority point. It's also wrong for the sake of being more venomous, none of them are very pretentious. They're just kids doing whatever and not really thinking. You, on the other hand, are one of the most pretentious losers I've met in a while. 7.) A lot of people ARE cowards following the narrative, you aren't talking to any of them. You're here, talking to the only people that would normally agree with you if you weren't just lashing out like a wild animal. Because you yourself are a coward and can't handle a bunch of mean comments, which is literally the only backlash you would face. 8.) It's clearly not fine by you at all, but you don't have the balls to actually make a stance one way or another so you gotta end that pure vitriol with what I guess looks like a more casual comment to somebody who hasn't had a happy, or coherent, thought in decades. 9.) Nobody playing video games is going to "burn" whether the gaming scene changes or not. I haven't seen a shit take like this since the egde lords in highschool. That's about all the comment is worth. And that's about all I got for the quarter of a second worth of thought I gave this cum stain of a comment. I'm not gonna read anything you say, you already got everything you're worth. Think about it or don't, this baseless pessimism is its own punishment.

I believe almost everyone of us has had a magical Moment when they fell in love with Halo. I remember being maybe 6-7 years old and going to game stop to buy a new game with my dad because my brother only bothered to buy Minecraft and I was tired of it. I know wanting a game about ancient Spartans, I was very interested in that genre and watching the movie 300 sooo many times. I remember the guy working there looking through his Computer and looking for such games, and I remember looking to my left at a Huge wall of games, and the cover of Halo 3 smiled in my face. I instantly wanted THAT game, and I’m glad my father bought it for me. I remember playing the Campaign with my brother and struggling at the last mission, and how much fun we had. It is moments like these that cemented my love for this franchise, and I still have a deep love for Halo and Halo 3 specially. I liked Halo 5s Multiplayer, and i remember the moment I first started Infinite, I felt the same magic as all those years ago. I do truly believe 343 is slowly getting us justice of wanting the Halo feeling again, and even though you all could make excellent counter arguments, it’s hope that prevails when all else is lost. I Hope 343 (or better Microsoft) see the potential in Halo and give it more time to make it feel Halo again, and infinite is for me at least a great start.

I’ll never forgot in September of that year , playing the vidmaster challenge in h3 last level with me and 3 other grff ball randoms , it took us 4 hours and while they were people I never met or played with again , as a 32 year old man I can still remember screaming for joy and sadness thru the mic with them and the feeling at the end

Listen, I know that the gaming industry has taken a turn, but I don’t think it’s fair to say that gaming “used to be great.” There are still plenty of games with passion and soul poured into them. Helldivers II, Baulder’s Gate III, and Lethal Company are recent examples. Amnesia the Bunker and Tears of the Kingdom? The Resident Evil 4 and System Shock remakes could’ve been souless cash-grabs, instead they were amazing! What of Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok and Cult of the Lamb? Faith the Unholy Trilogy? I know that the state of modern gaming can seem grim at times, but there are still lots of AMAZING games out there and that are still being made. Keep your heads up, lads and ladies.

This is exactly what I was thinking when I saw the title. There is no shortage of great games that have love and passion behind them that prioritize the player over shareholders. I'm not sure gaming was all that great back then. We all didn't think Bungie would sell out and then they did .. and yeah sure we have destiny but that game's not even where it should be.. like at all Bungie used to be the only company that I had high hopes for , and the second they sold Halo I knew the gaming industry as a whole was just... Well fucked to put it short . Halo will always remain my favorite game series, but to me the last two new Halo games to exist were the ensemble halo wars games , not even Halo 4 (I only play that for three reasons wich is forge, multiplayer,and dominion specifically) I don't play Halo 5 and I do not play infinite We all know who us "halo vets" really don't like even 343 industries games, Bungie literally centered every single game that they have ever made up until now directly around the player and made an attempt to immerse you and make you feel as much as possible for all the characters in the story , they went out of their way to study stuff like physics a little bit and psychology to add a bit more realism and relatability into the game, Hours upon hours of writing scripting designing scrapping it all and having to redo it If you ask me almost literally blood sweat and tears especially for halo 2 , but it always worked in the end because of how much Bungie actually cared , a lot of people don't know but they got kinda close to being broke making two of their halo games But in the end of the day they did it for US For the experience And for marking their names into history And in my opinion bungee did so in a legendary way . Thank you for reading this long comment if anybody did so good luck to you and may you find peace in your domains.

"The only non-alien animal seen in any Halo game, ever". Im pretty sure the emus on Reach were brought there by some of the settlers as farm/zoo animals.

My favorite "IWHBYD" skull moment is on the ONI Alpha-site level. If you manage to save the two security personnel in the lobby, when you get on the elevator, they'll chit-chat. One guy walked up to his buddy, and said, "This *might* be a bad time, but you still owe me for that sound system...." Paraphrasing, but still, funny as hell.

I still think about when I had first played Halo for the first time. Getting a taste of it with the Halo CE trial, playing it over and over again; then properly with Reach. Playing through the entire campaign for the first time and getting to experience a game that to this day I still consider to be one of my favourites. There will never be any game series like the Halo Pentalogy.

Met a lot of people back on the good ole Halo 3 custom games lobbies. Shit was so fun man, im still good buddies with a few of em to this day. Griff ball, infection, duck hunt, VIP, etc. All were so damn fun. Infinites custom games are starting to get pretty sweet too because of how in depth Forge is now. Crazy how this franchise was such a big part of our childhoods. Watching this video made me have Deja Vu.

When playing video games I usually feel nothing, I just play them and get on with my day. But ODST made me feel helpless, lonely and lost.

Says halo could’ve gone the way of the Star Wars sequels but it kinda did. Halo 4 came out to mixed results but ppl were hopeful for the future. Halo 5 committed character assassination. And in halo 6 they pulled antagonists from previous works to be the villain (palpatine & the banished) they pretty copied each other’s homework

Fast forward to now and we have a spiritual successor to ODST in Helldivers 2. I joined the ranks last night, and while it does mean i'm now a Helldiver, I still consider myself to be that Rookie, wandering the streets of New Mombasa... As the old saying goes... #WeAreODST. We have been ODST... We ARE ODST... We will ALWAYS be ODST. Feet first into Hell. This Is The Way.

Aye to that. Those in helldivers seem to want reinforcements from us ODST veterans. Bet some of them don't realize the first wave is already here.

Beautiful video, brother. I think the sad part is knowing we may never go back to epic experiences like exiting the pod on halo for the first time or landing that sticky from across the map ever again. Halo lost its soul when bungie left.

Years ago, me and my sister scraped up enough money to buy an Xbox 360, played Halo CE and Halo 3 and ofc all the other great 360 games, never played ODST, too scary at the time. I played odst on the master chief collection and glad I did, glad I’m older now and the mix of music and tone hit harder and I’m able to enjoy it more. So, this game means a lot and I’m glad to have experienced a blind play through
