Gaming with Starlink in Nigeria (PS5)

For gaming what matters most is latency. 10 Mbps upload/download is just as good as 100 Mbps upload/download - it makes no noticeable difference. It's looking like Starlink is only marginally better than MTN and other networks or it's just about the same.

Thank you for this video. That means starlink is basically the same as MTN in terms of latency because I also get 130-160ms in call of duty warzone, halo infinite, Fortnite, overwatch, shatterline and apex legends while using MTN. The games mostly connect to Europe servers(UK, Germany and Belgium)

Yes, pretty much the same in latency, I think speed doesn't really have much to do with that, the major issue is distance, my friend in the US has 140ms latency when playing on Europe servers.

@@King_Eke yea. Online gaming is not about speed but about latency which all depends on distance. I get around 140ms when I connect to UK servers and around 220ms when I connect to USA servers. A speed of 10mbps is enough for online gaming. I am glad starlink didn't have packet loss or jitters during your gameplay. That means it's usable for online gaming. Where I reside, MTN has jitters and high latency fluctuations whenever there is network congestion usually in the afternoons.

@@King_Eke what I don't understand is why game developers won't give us African server for console and pc games but will give us African server for mobile games. Does it mean Africans are so broke they can't afford a gaming pc or console. Call of duty mobile (codm) has a South African server and that's why Nigerians get around 70ms ping in codm. Mobile legends is a phone game and it has a Nigerian server

@@arico7923 There is no improvement in South African server if you are in Nigeria. The distance between South Africa to Nigeria and Nigeria to London is basically the same. Closer countries like Ghana or even in Nigeria will be a drastice improvment in the latency.

@@nilwagaming5431 but Nigerians get around 70ms ping in call of duty mobile. Which server do Nigerians connect to when playing call of duty mobile? It can't be a European server because that will get you around 130ms ping which is what Nigerians get in apex legends mobile and any other game that connects to European servers(UK, Germany and Belgium to be precise). I know the only African server in call of duty mobile is South African server

It's okay. The distance to the game servers are the major bottleneck. But it's decent so far. Only when it rains I can barely browse.

I noticed something. The call of duty initially wanted to join a match below 106ms ping but could not, that's why you joined another match with 130ms ping(likely a different server in Europe other than London. Most likely Frankfurt) and the FIFA ping is usually around 105-120ms. If the closest call of duty and FIFA server to Nigeria are in London, That means Nigeria to London server latency using starlink is better than MTN because Nigeria to London server latency using MTN is usually above 120ms. When I play warzone 2.0 using mtn, they will want me to join a match below 140ms. I have never seen the option to join match below 120ms
