Ah, the HD 5450. I got the exact same model as yours for my parents' PC for use as a video decoding card (as you mentioned, it was originally intended for HTPCs), but before that, I tested this card in my own PC to see if it works. One of the games I tried was Minecraft, and it ran surprisingly well, at a very stable 30 FPS at 1080p. Granted, it was paired with a fairly modern CPU (Ryzen 3 2200G) but it was the best performance I've seen in Minecraft from an ultra budget GPU, certainly better than the absolute travesty that is the integrated G31 chipset graphics in my parents' PC.
@jtenorj2 жыл бұрын
Are you sure Minecraft was running on the HD 5450 and not the Integrated Vega 8 graphics? Because in that case the integrated graphics should be much, much faster(like several times faster, given the more efficient architecture, double the core clock speed, and several times the computational resources).
@jtenorj2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking of the 6450, which is 160 VLIW5 shaders. The 5450 is worse with only 80. That's close to 64 VLIW4 shaders, and the original GCN compute unit had roughly 50% better IPC than VLIW 4. Vega level revision should have even higher IPC(not a ton, but at least a little). So I would say the Vega 8(well, when overclocked to something like 1650 MHz) could be potentially 24 times as powerful(50%+ better due to IPC, 8x the compute units, and double or more the clock speed). I know Minecraft is fairly easy for Vega 8.

@@playerroku4412 in windows you can cap the refresh rate depending on drivers, so you could set to 1280x800 @40hz for example. I do own this card (the 512MB DDR2 version to be exact) and I absolutely love it for what it is because it is amazing when used for it's intended purpose. -it is dirt cheap so if it breaks - whatever -it is old and simple, I've had instances where with a relatively modern card I don't immediately get a display output (I did own a vegy 56, then a different vega 56 and now a 980ti) and I have to reboot one or two times or I have to remove the card and plug it back in. But with the HD5450? This thing has never even once failed to immediately give me a display output no matter which system I use it in. Sot it is great to get a basic display output (with hdmi even) out of a system without integrated graphics and is great for troubleshooting. I recently upgraded my PC but kept the 980ti for the new one so the HD5450 is currently responsible for keeping my prevoius computer usable. And it can't even run minecraft in a playable manner.

when my main rig's psu blew up I had to stick for a week to a 2005 HP sff which had a 3450HD videocard in it, this 5450 wouldve been a massive improvement over it lol

I'm so glad that I never have to play games in less than 800x600 anymore. 360p and 480p usually looks fine on phones, but when gaming in fullscreen on PC.. nah

I love Mafia 2 :) Played it on my laptop with i3 5005u, 4gb ram in that moment, one stick, and intel hd 5500. On a hdd. I think i got around 20 or 30 fps at most. Even less in some places. Yeah, still better than the gpu you tested today :)

Basically, what I would call a display adapter - OK to drive multiple displays, but that's about it. Modern Intel HD graphics or Ryzen APU iGPUs would perform better.

At this point for low profile users, 1650 or even the new 6400 are there for the taking, even enthusiasts can have the rtx A2000... options there are, I imagine Intel will come also with one of this that is actually potable! Options are nice, keep'em coming

I used to have a 6450 with a gig of ddr3 on it. I remember playing world of warships at 7 fps, it was horrible.

Honestly, far cry primal kinda looks awesome. Loved the third one, the fourth never appealed to me and I was away at a military school, liked 5 and 6 but they felt like consecutive steps away from what i liked of far cry 3. Perhaps it's worth a grab?

My first GPU that I paired with an old core2duo hp tower. I could only run pre-2010 games smoothly with the 512mb version. I have a much better system now but I still have this card to remind me how far i've come.

I have the MSI 1gb edition of this card, and as terrible as it is it serves a niche purpose for PC builders. I have it for testing motherboards and GPUs, since it'll boot and output video in just about any system. I recently used it to figure out why my new used 6700XT wasn't outputting any video since my CPU has no onboard graphics, I could just throw this in alongside the 6700 XT to find out I had a driver conflict.

Find out the DDR2 version's limits, is it even good for a media center setup? Can it handle 1080p playback?

I used a pc with this card for 2 months (my gpu died, and didn't had any other for my home pc), and actually is pretty usable for day-to-day use, but absolutely not gaming. But for gaming with pretty old games it's a good choice.
