I wish we had backwards compatibility for the PS5, at the level that we had for the early PS3. Sony could've, and should've, invested in emulation for the PS5, so that it can run PS1/PS2/PS3/PSP games. Even if its in the form of software emulation, as long as the games run well and relatively bug-free. There's so much good old games out there that people can't play on modern consoles. If people can emulate the PS3 on PC, the Sony should be able to do it on the PS5, considering they're the ones who manufactured it.

The PS3 may have been hard to code for, but it has some really good killer game's like Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriot's and Killzone 2 but what truly sets it apart from the current generation that Sony actually did right was Backwards compatibility, something that is severely lacking on the PS4, let's hope they won't make the same mistake with the PS5! It has to be backwards compatible just like the Xbox series X will be, and I'm not talking about streaming PS1,PS2 and PS3 games via PlayStation Now I'm talking they need to have it where you can take one of your game discs from your collection of games pop that disc in and be able to play it! I find it ridiculous in this day and age in the year 2020 Sony says they can't do this and they offer the latter for playing PS1-PS3 via PlayStation Now, this is utter BS, it comes down to the fact that Sony either doesn't have the money to invest in the proper R&D to implement such a technology in the PS5 or they just don't want to and are so out of touch with their fanbase that this is going to hurt them in the long term. Sony needs to do this if they wish for the PS5 to succeed in sales and to stay relevant in the video game industry as whole!

I am telling you all of this. What Sony needed to do was if they couldn't delay the PS3 for a year and have NVIDIA give them a better GPU based on the GeForce 8000 series then Sony should have doubled the RAM to 512 Main and 512 VRAM. The main issue of the PS3 was the old type of GPU it used, it did not have unified shaders something the Xbox 360 had in 2005. If Sony had waited and released the PS3 in 2007 with more RAM and a better GPU it would have made a huge difference.

@@BlueGreyWolf not only that, by late 2007 Sony could have had released the PS3 with both the CPU and GPU using a 65nm die for both the CPU and GPU meaning more chips could be made on a single wafer and less energy consumption. today it is really expensive to die shrink but back in the mid 2000s it was way cheaper

Sony were smoking some quality crack at the time, when they first announced ps3 the CELL was gonna be the only processer in it, handling video audio and cpu functions. Then the effects of the crack party wore off and they had to go hat in hand to nvidia to get a modified 7 series gpu from them, which they then dubbed "rsx reality synthesizer". It was basically delayed from 2005 to 2006 to get this gpu added and that also gave them problems with lack of supply at launch, and presumably developers getting dev kits late in the day to try and get games out for launch..

No it was horrible it was like putting an F1 engine in an economy car all power no control. The cell is overrated it’s only advantage was it was powerful for the time and had a gpu like architecture. No wonder it got scrapped it wasn’t a true CPU for general purposes. And as we learned it’s always better to have a CPU and GPU working together with fast memory. Sony could’ve spent the money on a decent cpu and higher end gpu for the PS3 and instead of selling at 600USD and still taking massive losses been ahead of the competition. And see only reason they spent so much on cell is someone at Sony told them this radical cpu/gpu hybrid would be enough for the console there was no gpu originally planned. So that ran up costs as well. So basically the cell was trying to solve problems that didn’t exist. We can offload rendering to a gpu and have a general processing cpu for the rest we didn’t need an overly complex hybrid. Also the cores in the cell weren’t flexible like a modern cpu. ALSO SONY DIDNT WORK ON ANY COMPILERS GOOD LUCK PROGRAMMING EFFICIENTLY WITHOUT SONY GIVING YOU SOURCE CODE TO WORK WITH 😂

@@mikehatten5738 eh, I'm mad about it too, being that I'm a playstation guy and the ps3 still has no games. But this stuff happens, they gambled and lost. And Sony was sort of right with the whole no GPU thing with AMDs new "APU" processors. Now that I think about it, AMD has been spending almost the last decade trying to see Sony's ideas through, Weird. Anyways, the ps4 and Xbone both had 'minor' APUs, with the new 6000 series APUs a lot of interesting things are happening, like the GPD win4. PowerXCell 8i In 2008, IBM announced a revised variant of the Cell called the PowerXCell 8i,[27] which is available in QS22 Blade Servers from IBM. The PowerXCell is manufactured on a 65 nm process, and adds support for up to 32 GB of slotted DDR2 memory, as well as dramatically improving double-precision floating-point performance on the SPEs from a peak of about 12.8 GFLOPS to 102.4 GFLOPS total for eight SPEs, which, coincidentally, is the same peak performance as the NEC SX-9 vector processor released around the same time. The IBM Roadrunner supercomputer, the world's fastest during 2008-2009, consisted of 12,240 PowerXCell 8i processors, along with 6,562 AMD Opteron processors.[28] The PowerXCell 8i powered super computers also dominated all of the top 6 "greenest" systems in the Green500 list, with highest MFLOPS/Watt ratio supercomputers in the world.[29] Beside the QS22 and supercomputers, the PowerXCell processor is also available as an accelerator on a PCI Express card and is used as the core processor in the QPACE project. Since the PowerXCell 8i removed the RAMBUS memory interface, and added significantly larger DDR2 interfaces and enhanced SPEs, the chip layout had to be reworked, which resulted in both larger chip die and packaging.[30]

People keep talking about the untapped potential of the ps3 to this day but reality is the ps3 reached its full potential already in 2009 with MGS4 and i doubt any other game could push it beyond that. it's like asking people to ride an ac130 gunship instead of standard commercial airplane and then boasting about all the weapons and technology even though none asked you to

Ps3 was more powerful but xbox 360 was easier to code for and make games for it and the xbox 360 had unified memory which gave the allowed the game developers to get creative and use the ram in cool ways like the xbox 360 gpu was more powerful than the ps3 gpu but the ps3 cpu was more powerful than the xbox 360s cpu but both consoles were great both creating amazing graphics

Good ol Killzone 3, another example where Sony flat out lies to the public showing completely rendered fake gameplay... Sony lied at its PS5 event too stating Project Athius was designed exclusively for the PS5 which it isn’t and they was a lie, they removed that statement from the video the next day after complaints I believe. In fact they’re were several time’s a timed exclusive or day 1 PC release games that Sony used the word ‘exclusive for PS5’ on... manipulative false marketing through and through. Designed to confuse you and make you ‘think’ all these games are only on the PS5 which they aren’t.

Most titles played far better in the 360. And then you had that Sony hack... The PS3 was an example of how not to make a games console. It was purely built to sell blue ray drives first, games second. That’s why it cost so much and the cell processor was one of the most stupid decisions Sony’s ever made! The Xbox 360 rocked that gen, Sony had to change the PS3 design a lot and slash its price heavily and offer AAA free games every month with PSN Plus to compete.. and that was with the 360’s atrocious failure rate!

The PS3 was Sony's biggest failure. They could have been forgiven if they made a bunch of great 1st party titles but they made too few too late. The majority of multiplatform titles looked PS2 quality and the 360 looked great.
