It makes me super happy. They own Dambuster Studios too which is basically the modern successor to Free Radical, with some of the same developers. They made Homefront: The Revolution which was not a good game, but I'd attribute that more to Deep Silver being incompetent and out of touch with the industry than to the developers not being talented. It gives me great hope that Timesplitters will be making a comeback soon, first with an HD or PC re-release of the first three games, and TS4 or Rewind can finally come to fruition. Also, it's sad Timesplitters didn't have a greater influence on the FPS genre, it was overshadowed by Halo (which is a great game in and of itself, but for different reasons) and that's where all the developers started to derive ideas from, but failed to take some of the greater concepts from Timesplitters alongside it (bots, map editing, tight gunplay, etc.)

Yo, Timesplitters Rewind Dev here! Great review man, it's great to see people bringing light to this beloved franchise. Some things I would like to say is that recently (1 month ago) THQNordic has bought the Timesplitters IP so Crytek don't own it anymore which looks promising for an official re-release and maybe a sequel. Also the Timesplitters Rewind Project is still alive and well and is making progress. I'll link our discord server in the reply below. Also if you have knowledge of 3D artwork or coding and you want to see a new game don't hesitate to ask to join team!

"Also the Timesplitters Rewind Project is still alive and well and is making progress" sadly none can believe that anymore, although we would love to see TS:R happen, the team kinda lost our support. I understand there has been some issues slowing down the project and making you guys start over numerous times, but nothing excuses this complete lack of communication. We know this is made by volunteers who work on their free time, it doesn't matter if anything you have to show or tell us will be percieved as "amateur", we just need to know what's going on. I wasn't expecting something like Rust's dev blog, but hey the latest update on tsrewind.com is from DECEMBER 2017 !

No thanks, all hopes go to THQ now.

ッBenenuts I came onto the team about 4 months ago, I cannot make excuses for the past of the project but on the inside there had been a lot of great progress being made. We have also started releasing smaller updates to show progress while we work on the bigger reveal. Since holding back wasn't a good idea in the end.

You did an excellent job on the review for TimeSplitters 1 by the way, keep up the good work buddy. (Fun fact I used to play TimeSplitters 2 on the gamecube when I was a kid and it was the first game that got me introduced to this kick-ass fps series.)

Timesplitters 3 has the best single player campaign of the trilogy. Timesplitters 2 is great, but it barely had a story just like the 1st game. Great news that someone outside of Crytek bought this IP. Maybe now we'll get a HD remaster/remake of the Timesplitters trilogy and hopefully a Timesplitters 4 with campaign, Co-op, Arcade mode, map maker, and multiplayer with bot options too. So many AAA games, especially FPS ones, rarely if ever deliver the complete package this trilogy did. Great review!

Revisited Future Perfect earlier last year and aside from a mini game (like providing overwatch for Harry Tipper with the sniper and the harsh deadzone for aiming it holds up amazingly well. The music is badass, memorable, constantly keeps itself fresh with varying time periods. I honestly don't understand why no one has ever tried to replicate this formula. Closest thing we have right now I guess is Fortnite with its character roster and map variety and distinctive locations like the old west shantytown, the futuristic hazard containment base in Dusty Divot, or the mountain base with the rocket, Hanted Hills with its gothic medieval structures, Risky Reels reminiscent of a 50's drive in, etc.

THQ Nordic acquired the rights for Timesplitters, they bought it very recently. So a reboot or sequel is most likely happening, or at the very least a remaster of the original 3 games. As for the Rewind project, it's in the air, the rights transference may or may not halt the fan project, depending if THQ Nordic allows it or not.

I love this series dearly and it boggles the mind that there hasn't been a TimeSplitters 4. Seems like a no-brainer with first-person shooters being more popular than ever these days.

Apparently the game was rushed so it could meet the launch date of the PS2, which is why stuff like the story is virtually nonexistant and why there's some questionable balancing of the weapons.

THQ Nordic bought the rights to Timesplitters and announced something will be done with it. I'd be satisfied with a HD Collection with private servers and online, A new one would be fine but Im worried it will get bogged down with modern holdbacks like dlc characters and no challenges or challenges that will generally feel the same but I also can't see THQ Nordic really doing that.

Man I LOVED Timesplitters, Future Perfect being my favourite for it's sweet story and actually funny comedy elements. THQ Nordic recently bought up the TimeSplitters IP and all it's rights. It also owns a little dev called DamBuster studio...formerly known as Free Radical. Ponder that for a moment. THQ have bought and plan on resurrecting some of the best IP's of the 21st century (Darksiders, Destroy All Humans, Red Faction, Saints Row, Titan Quest and so on. I'd LOVE to see a Sphinx & the Cursed Mummy sequel). Talk about rising from the dead. :D

Such a fantastic game! I played this 18yrs ago whilst at school and visiting my mate its one of my favorite games and series in general. The TS series does need a new title out to be honest and if there is going to be one i think it should be of characters who are from the 2nd like captain ash when hes older n being chased by the golem or fingers makenzie from the 1st TS game like who is he or whats hes story. Sgt Cortez is a good character but he's saved human kind by killing Jacob Crow in Future Perfect, oh and the Jones family need a story too. I cant remember their names but theres been a Jones in all 3 games, 1st TS in haunted mansion, 2nd Wild West level and 3rd Jones in the future helping Sgt Cortez. He would be a great character to start of a new TS game!

I got my copy of Timesplitters for my launch PS2...two or three weeks after it released. What an incredible game it was. It was the very first game I played with twin sticks and at first I hated it. However, after a couple of hours of growing pains I was all about it. While I love the series I don't consider it the best from the 6th generation. No, that would be Halo but it takes a game of that caliber to beat Timesplitters.

Yo guys i really love your reviews and don't know if you guys take requests but i noticed you guys don't have a video review on a hotwheels game, it'd be awesome if you guys did a video on since there are some pretty fun games based on it!, if you guys ever decide to do a review on a hotwheels game and haven't played one before i would suggest Hotwheels Velocity X which was released on Playstation 2, Gamecube and PC. It is a really fun combat racing game where you do stunts to fill your boost meter find various powerups and use them on enemies, it has a good amount of cars to unlock which all feel very different to play to one another, it has a story mode, challenge mode where you have to do specific tasks to complete missions(You can also do some really specific things in order to unlock cheats which i thought was a nice feature) and free roam where you can explore the levels you completed in story mode and find collectables to unlock more cars (i might've forgotten if there were any more gamemodes since it has been years last time i played it).

Playing the series is fascinating. Especially the singleplayer. The first 2 basically have no story. The 2nd technically has some. But it's so simple and vague that skipping the cutscenes changes nothing. I mean the 2nd's story is timeplitters are attacking you and have spread time crystals throughout time. Cortez travels through time by inhabiting the bodies of randos. Do random objectives that somehow spawn time crystals. What are the timesplitters? That's answered in future perfect. Why do these objectives spawn time crystals? No idea

I don't know if I prefer this, or the second one. Timesplitters 2 is super nostalgic, but I think I like he gameplay of this more. It's fast, and to the point. The second one can get kinda frustrating, because it's slower, and the levels don't have checkpoints. The third one is whatever... plays too much like a modern FPS. Setpieces, cutscenes, linear. The first one holds up best.

You may be right about the engine but the first article has that quote which used the second article as a citation.
@mintmag87486 жыл бұрын
It's worth noting that all a game engine does is compile the scripts and rander the graphics. It's the software that games the game start. It doesn't really affect the way it looks and feels. At least not in a way that most gamers think. For example you can have script that applies bloom to surfaces. How that bloom is applied and rendered can be affected by the engine and the same goes for physics. Havok is a very common physics engine which in itself is a plugin that you can attached to other engines such as unity and Unreal for things like ragdoll. Have you ever used an emulator? You know how you have different plug-ins for things like video rendering sound rendering and input connections. Game engines work much the same way.
