Danish ? "Original Danish fortress" ?? Old Town is the oldest part of Fredrikstad in Østfold. It was founded on the 12th September 1567 on the east side of Glomma, where the river divides into two races. King Frederick II signed byfundasjonsbrevet and Fredrikstad became the first NORWEGIAN town that was founded after the Middle Ages and the first king allowed that was named after the king himself. Fredrikstad's Old Town with its unique urban skyline within the well-preserved fortifications from the 1660s making it Northern Europe's best preserved fortress. It is also regarded as NORWAY`s first renaissance. It was here Moss Convention was signed by Crown Prince Carl Johan on behalf of the then Swedish king.
