Nice interesting video! That's the next pub crawl sorted 🍻 Always amazes me how much history is all around us and until someone like you points it out it would remain hidden, so thank you for that 👍 Catch you on the next video....

Hi BP, thanks for your comments. Yep, it’s surprising about the history of our little towns. Thanks for watching

It will be a short crawl, we have 2 pubs

If anyone wants to find out about the village’s long history I’d recommend ‘Gamlingay - Six hundred years of life in a village’ by the historian James Brown who is himself originally from Gamlingay.

Cheers Andy. Thanks for taking us down memory lane. It brought back to mind a pub that used to be very popular in Tadlow which was known locally as the 'Scratch and Cat" but was in fact The Downing Arms so yet another Downing connection. I think the word Cinque may be pronounced sank as in the Cinque Ports.

Hi David, I remember the Scratch and Cat pub on the way to Tadlow lol. Thanks for watching much appreciated
@vultan20003 жыл бұрын
I’ve only heard it pronounced as Sinks. I could be wrong, but although it’s probably French in origin it’s pronounced as it would be in English.

Thanks, Andrew, nice video - after 15 years I can vouch that Gamlingay is a great place to live and bring up children. Would you mind sharing what camera drone you use for the arial shots - they work really well and I'm looking for something similar...
@andrewwardmedia3 жыл бұрын
Hi two Lads and a laptop, thanks for watching. You can use the drone shots no problem. Cheers Andy

@@andrewwardmedia That's generous of you, thanks - would love to use some of those. What I really meant though, was could you share what equipment you used (i.e which make/model of drone/camera)?....

51 pubs?? Don't think so. My late Grandad (Douglas Titmus, who was part of the Gamlingay hisory society, and also mentioned in James Brown's Book 'Gamlingay' in the acknowladgement section for his help with this historical [yet boring] piece of literature, counted 27ish in the early part of last century. But that didn't include ale houses. This may be where you may be mistaken, as 'ale houses were different to pubs. Hit me back just to chat, truly yours, your biggest fan, this is Dan

Hiya Daniel, probably got mixed up with ale houses lol. Thanks for watching, much appreciated Andy

Cambridge is a great place, history, classic, gentleman culture, but flooding is a huge problem
@andrewwardmedia3 жыл бұрын
Hi C9 C9, Cambridge is really nice, especially in the summer. I know they have a flooding problem near the steam museum on the outskirts.
@mattbrown48333 жыл бұрын
Cambridge maybe, but not Gamlingay, not really. The government website for flooding lists it as very low risk from any kind of flooding. In the 10+ years I’ve lived here the only thing like flooding I’ve seen was the river at Millbridge Brook getting very high after an unusually heavy rain that caused the Great Ouse at St Neots to completely flood the riverside park area past the car park. It would take something pretty apocalyptic to flood Gamlingay.
