Which do you recommend to us Gan 354 M or Gan 356 X?

For most cubers, the X. Since there are so many options for customization, there really isn't a cube that can suit so many cubers out there. I personally still like the 354 just for the size, but I am getting used to the 56 mm size again.

Would you say it's closer to the 354 or the SM? I prefer the SM, and don't just want a bigger 354 with exchangeable magnets.

It's not just a bigger 354 with exchangeable magnets. The feeling is a little different. The SM is quite soft, whereas the 354 is smooth. The X isn't soft, but it's way smoother than the 354. Just because it isn't soft, it's not hard. It's just incredibly buttery.
