(𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘤𝘬 𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘍𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘩 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴)
Achilles, Achilles, Achilles, come down
Won’t you get up off, get up off the roof?
You’re scaring us and all of us, some of us love you
Achilles, it’s not much but there’s proof
You crazy-assed cosmonaut, remember your virtue
Redemption lies plainly in truth
Just humour us, Achilles, Achilles, come down
Won’t you get up off, get up off the roof?
Achilles, Achilles, Achilles, come down
Won’t you get up off, get up off the roof?
The self is not so weightless, nor whole and unbroken
Remember the pact of our youth
Where you go, I’m going, so jump and I’m jumping
Since there is no me without you
Soldier on, Achilles, Achilles, come down
Won’t you get up off, get up off the roof?
Loathe the way they light candles in Rome
But love the sweet air of the votives
Hurt and grieve but don’t suffer alone
Engage with the pain as a motive
Today of all days, see
How the most dangerous thing is to love
How you will heal and you’ll rise above
𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐬, 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐬, 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐬, 𝐣𝐮𝐦𝐩 𝐧𝐨𝐰

Achilles, Achilles, just put down the bottle
Don’t listen to what you’ve consumed
It’s chaos, confusion and wholly unworthy
Of feeding and it’s wholly untrue
You may feel no purpose nor a point for existing
It’s all just conjecture and gloom
And there may not be meaning, so find one and seize it
Do not waste yourself on this roof
Hear those bells ring deep in the soul
Chiming away for a moment
Feel your breath course frankly below
And see life as a worthy opponent
Today of all days, see
How the most dangerous thing is to love
How you will heal and you’ll rise above
Crowned by an overture bold and beyond
Ah, it’s more courageous to overcome

*Explanation + translation of the French sections:* The parts in French are sections of the philosophical essay "The myth of Sisyphus" by Albert Camus. It's about the philosophy of the absurd: "Absurdism lies in the juxtaposition between the fundamental human need to attribute meaning to life and the "unreasonable silence" of the universe in response". _I see many people die because they judge that life is not worth living. I see others paradoxically getting killed for the ideas or illusions that give them a reason for living (what is called a reason for living is also an excellent reason for dying)._ "D'un gérant d'immeubles qui s'était tué, on me disait un jour qu'il avait perdu sa fille depuis cinq ans, qu'il avait beaucoup changé depuis et que cette histoire "l'avait miné"." _Of an apartment-building manager who had killed himself I was told that he had lost his daughter five years before, that he had changed greatly since, and that that experience had "undermined" him._ "Ce qui déclenche la crise est presque toujours incontrôlable. Les journaux parlent souvent de "chagrins intimes" ou de "maladie incurable". Ces explications sont valables. Mais il faudrait savior si le jour même un ami du désespéré ne lui a pas parlé sur u ton indifférent. Celui-là est le coupable." _What sets off the crisis is almost always unverifiable. Newspapers often speak of "personal sorrows" or of "incurable illness." These explanations are plausible. But one would have to know whether a friend of the desperate man had not that very day addressed him indifferently. _[...] the memory of a lost home or the hope of a promised land. This divorce between man and his life [...]._ "[...] celle du oui et celle du non. Ce serait trop beau. Mais il faut faire la part de ceux qui, sans conclure, interrogent toujours. Ici, j'ironise à peine: il s'agit de la majorité. Je vois également que ceux qui réspondent non agissent comme s'ils pensaient oui. De fait, [si j'accepte le critérium nietzschéen, ils pensent oui d'une façon ou de l'autre]." _[...] either yes or no. This would be too easy. But allowance must be made for those who, without concluding, continue questioning. Here I am only slightly indulging in irony: this is the majority. I notice also that those who answer "no" act as if they thought "yes." As a matter of fact, [if I accept the Nietzschean criterion, they think "yes" in one way or another]._

This sounds like the two halves of my emotions fighting during one of my depressive episodes. Part of me is saying that I'm just a burden and deserve to die, and the other is reminding me of how much I would hurt everyone if I did and that suicide is just a permanent solution to a temporary problem. I hope I can listen to the latter.

I actually think that the negative voice is Achilles's inner monologue, i can see some resemblances with imposter syndrome in those lines. And while Patroclus's voice tells him that he is loved and he shouldn't give up, his inner voice tells him what he thinks is the truth, that he is hated and shouldn't get to live.

I know this song is based more off Greek mythology, but it still resonates so deeply with me. I’ve struggled with bad mental health for a while and while I’ve been trying to get help, it feels damn near impossible (especially since I’m an adult now). I’ve had moments recently where I’ve thought about how much easier it would be to just give up and let whatever the hell I’m going through win, but there’s always a voice in my head telling me not to give up. This song is so beautifully done and I love it so much.

Hey, I hope you're doing okay my dude. I know how bad it is to struggle with mental health, I struggle with it too and being an adult doesn't help, you feel isolated most of the time and sometimes the weight of responsibilities is just overwhelming. But don't let those feelings get the better of you, there are people out there who care for you, even though it might not be immediately obvious. For what it's worth, I for one care about you after reading this. I'm sure you'll get through this tough phase and come out stronger. Always listen to that voice telling you to never give up. And yeah this song is amazing, just discovered it yesterday and can't stop listening to it, its a masterpiece.

Do you ever just hear a song and want to just sink into it. Not just sink but to emerse yourself in it. To let it fill up your lungs thick and rich up to your eyes and feel the rhythm in your throat. A melody that just brings you down to your knees as you soak it up. Let your mind be drowned into the words and there infinite possibilities. To feel your heartbeat fade away on the structure of these words that have crippled you. And nothing can bring you back. You are too far gone. Lost in the sound that you can taste. You never want to come back. You want to stay lost in this time. They have paralyzed you body and soul as you drift off into that place where your not yet awake but not yet dreaming. That is this song for me.

I think I found out something, we know that the song it's supposed to be Patroclus singing to Aquilles, begging him to stay alive while the voices in his head are telling him the contrary, or well, it could be Apollo too, (fuck u Apollo) but ok, one of the sentences of the song is "how the most dangerous thing is to love", in the Myth a prophecy says that Aquilles will die soon after Hector (his enemy) dies, so in the Myth Hector kills Patroclus (it's not said officially but Aquilles really loved Patroclus, because there's no more proof that the way he acts when he's around him and other thing I'll explain) Aquilles was really sad and angry because Hector killed his lover, so he goes and kill Hector as a result of that feeling, here is where the prophecy comes out and Aquilles knows that he's going to die soon because Hector is now dead and he doesn't want to go to the war anymore, the ghost of Patroclus it's the one that encourages him to go and fight one last battle, singing this song to Aquilles because for him the only purpose of life was Patroclus and now he's gone, and his ghost tries to make his life worth again and get him off the roof, he convinces Aquilles and he goes to the battle and die, now he's with his lover on Elysium. Here is where the sentence that I quoted before makes sense, the most dangerous thing to Aquilles was loving Patroclus because it's his love that makes him kill Hector and by the way ends up killing himself because of the prophecy. He dies loving Patroclus. Everything makes sense. The End. ✨🗡️🖤. (Sry for making this soooooo long :b)

Ok hear me out Whenever I heard this song, I always assumed that the positive voice is patroclus and the negative voice is him, achilles. This is after patroclus died and achilles wants to commit suicide to be with him, but I always thought it was a physical roof But what if the roof is him killing Hector to avenge Patroclus. And Patroclus' ghost is telling him not kill Hector, because doing so is basically committing suicide, but the voice in his head is telling him that he should kill Hector and just die because he caused the death of his lover I don't know if this was obvious and I'm just slow, but I thought it was really cool when I figured it out

I was scrolling through dark academia text posts on instagram the other day when I saw a post that was describing Achilles and Patroclus as a couple which lead me to google it and I learned that many ancient greek people/ historians described them as lovers and I was amazed. We did the Heliad by Homer in highschool (Im greek and I live in greece btw) and not even once, even as a fan fact, did a teacher told us that. Something that made me furious. Also in our ancient greek class, when we were reading poems by greek poets, there wasn't even one of Sappho's poems there. Tbh the first time I heard of Sappho's name was when I watched Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. Like why is there so much lgbtq+ erasure in modern society? Honestly if I knew these I would already be so much more comfortable in my own skin and sexuality (something that now I'm begging to aknowlegde and explore. Im a lesbian btw) and I'm now starting to become more vocal about it.

a lot of ancient greek myth involves lgbt+ figures, almost all the gods were bisexual, and many displayed what we would now consider genderfluid traits. i mean, in general ancient greek society was very bisexual, and there was nothing wrong with gay relationships (and at some points were considered empowering and strong, consider the sacred band of thebes, an army made of gay couples. sadly there wasn't a ton of lesbian myth (sexism was a problem, women were considered lesser and their love was considered lesser), but there was a ton of bisexual men in myth. i mean, even heracles technically had relationships with men in some myths. i too wish there wasn't so much erasure. i didn't even know being gay was a thing until i was a teen, much less that i could be. i'm a nonbinary lesbian, and i honestly find a ton of comfort in dionysus, apollo, and artemis. (dionysus was androgynous or a feminine man depending on the myth, but in modern context you could consider him outside of the binary- they just didn't quite have the terms and concepts we do now).

This song reminds me of me and my dearest friend, still alive but struggling so hard with a lot of things. I won't go into much detail but Achilles is like my friend, on the roof fighting terrible thoughts and past pains, and I'm constantly telling them to come down. I'm not how to end this as our ending- happy or sad- hasn't come yet, but we will keep struggling together until we either can't anymore or feel the sunlight again. Hmm... This song is confusing. I know it’s just a song, but... The line “remember the pact of our youth” refers to the pact that Patroclus will follow Achilles wherever he goes. So, we can assume that the speaker of the lines discouraging Achilles to jump is Patroclus. But this is where it get confusing. “See how the most dangerous thing is to love” The reason why Achilles wants to kill himself is because of Patroclus’ death. But in the song, Patroclus threatens to follow Achilles if he jumps (killing himself). But how could Patroclus kill himself if he’s already dead?
@macwhite9382

.. o sì o no. Sarebbe troppo facile.

I see so many people saying that the negative voice is Apollo or the king that Achilles was mad at but I think it may be both of them and more, near the end of his story Achilles was starting to be hated by his comrades for refusing to fight so I think its multiple voices telling him to jump (as well as maybe his own, since he was greatly upset with himself for allowing his lover to die) The positive voice is probably still his lover

I'm pretty sure the negative voice is Agamemnon because he talks about giving "council" and "opinions," and that's something the Greeks did a lot in the Iliad. I personally don't think it's Apollo or Achilles' internal dialogue, especially if you see the lyrics as being inspired by the Iliad's events. Then again, the song could just be loosely referencing the overall myth of the Trojan War.
