Nostalgia. It was a different time. Even tho all the madness was going on, life was somehow better than today's reality. Back then it was all real an raw, you had to live through that period to know what I'm saying.

Wonder how much internet and computer games were involved in calming gang wars. Seems People were much more out hanging around street corner and getting into trouble back in the 80s 90s
@anthonygustafson47132 жыл бұрын
No smartphones extremely slow internet. People did get out and do more then. Somethings were better others not so much. But people did interact with each other more then.

There’s also a theory that lead exposure was a big reason for the crime increase in the 70s to 90s. I have no idea how true it is but it’s an interesting theory.

It made a huge difference. People lived in the real world back then, and if you wanted to align yourself with something like a gang, you really had be in it.

You act like video games didn’t exist back then. I lived literally a few feet away from the 200 block Randolph street projects @ 3:01 on Ramsell Street back in 89’ when this was filmed. I was about 6-7 years old and stayed inside playing Nintendo all day because the streets of the Lakeview district in the late 80’s and early 90’s were nowhere for a tween to be wandering back then. Classic Nintendo was just as addictive as any modern video gaming. We would rent different video games from the video store every weekend, trade video games with friends etc. Newer better systems came out every year in the early 90’s like Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo. I wasn’t interested in the street scene anyway although I was captivated by the slick style of Starter coats and hats and fly cars outside even as a kid. I think it was so much more violent back then because it was the height of crack epidemic. It was a lot of money to be had in the streets back then. But also, the lack of advanced technology definitely has something to do with it. There were no cameras everywhere like today. It was literally easier to get away with murder. And gentrification wasn’t a word in the dictionary. The streets of the inner cities were a free for all. Literally nothing to stop the violence. Some cities are still stuck in the 80’s era in terms of crime, drugs, violence and ghettoization... Baltimore immediately comes to mind.

In the 80s and 90s we had Mac 10's, Mac 11's, Uzis, Ak's, SKS, Mini 14's and Street Sweepers, Tec 9's and AP's. They were all same thing like switches the fullies were just bigger guns than today. We also had 30 round mags for pistols back then we called them extendos or 30 clips.
