The HMS Ganges huh? I've heard of that old British sail ship way back when that was made of South Asian Teak, it was renamed three times after it was retired from the navy, and was dismembered in 1930. However, much to my surprise, I never knew the town on S.S.I. was named after it.

Its a nice tourist video but noticed the Japaneese exiled movement didn't get mentioned , where most of the island agriculture came from Japaneese immigrants before heavy settlement, and was taken from them and never returned during the war camp imprisonments in WW2.

CJ Etherington In the 1860s Black settlers from the USA were among the first to work the land in Ganges along with Europeans, the Japanese came much later. Some of the Black descendants of the early settlers still live on the island today. There were many Japanese families on the island before WW2, and one the only families to return from the internment camps and re-settle in Ganges was the Murakami family. There is much more to be told about the history of Ganges than one can share in a short video. If you want to discover more, check out - www.saltspringarchives.com/.
