The reference Butcher Bill makes in regards to the death of his father, on 25 July 1814, was the Battle of Lundy's Lane. It was at Niagara Falls in Upper Canada. It was a bloody stalemate with heavy casualties on both sides. The British and militia suffered 84 men killed, 559 wounded, 169 captured and 55 missing while the Americans lost 174 killed, 572 wounded, 79 captured, and 28 missing. Including in the British casualties was one of their commanders, Major General Phineas Riall who was wounded and captured. Because of the heavy casualties sustained, the Americans were forced to withdrawal leaving the British and Canadian militia in command of the ground.

Our family like many got into the fur trade Trapping animals And working with Native people of the area (Cree) We then become Metis (Mixed blood) My great great great Grandfather And Uncle. Seen fighting at Lundy's Lane, and Stoney Creek And lived. Later a family member fought in the North-West Rebellion of 1885 (Metis war) Skip ahead once again to 1944 Grandfather landed on the shores of Normandy in the same Lincoln And Welland regiment that fought in the Lundy's Lane part of the war more than 100 years before hand with his great grandfather....What does a immigrant have to do to get stats around here? lol

One thing that's always stumped me about this film. The film takes place in 1863. Bill says his father died July 25, 1814. Later in the film, Bill says he is 47 years old. But 1863 - 47 is 1816. So either Bill has his age wrong, or his Mom was actually seeing someone while her husband was off fighting in the War of 1812.

The film took place in 1862. I’m guessing he could have been born in 1814 and his forty eighth birthday could have been near.
@nikosgreek3523 жыл бұрын
I was just about to write a comment about this thinking it was a mistake by the writers but I figured it out. The numbers fit if Bills father died before he was born. After all a man merely needs to impregnate a woman to produce a son, not be there at birth. He died 25 of July 1814. Lets say he impregnated her a month earlier in June of 1814. 9 months later February of 1815 the Butcher is born and becomes 47 in February 1862. It fits.

This movie was a perfect example of how hard it was being an immigrant in the late 1800s, how hard it still is. No one cares about your hardships, no one accepts you, no matter how hard you try to integrate and become a functioning member of society, people will always hate you because they believe you don't belong. @T Rocka That’s not so true anymore, if I go to little Mexico in my city it’s full of illegal aliens driving $50k trucks and buying up old homes, fixing them up and opening restaurants while you still got 30-40yo whites with bachelors degrees knee deep in student debt living in apartments. As a Latino, Bill The Butcher is one of my favorite characters for the same reason everyone is “supposed” to hate him. He’s protecting his country and culture with passion and devotion from people who don’t. It used to be that Latinos that came into this country assimilated into American culture and values; a sense of community, respect for others and their belongings, being polite, discreet, and elegant. They learned to speak English and raised their children to love and respect their country. Now a days, predominantly Latino neighborhoods are generally perceived with the expectation of being a dirty, tagged up, drug infested, low income shit hole. Same as the Irish neighborhoods in Gangs of N.Y. Don’t believe me? Drive down Boyle Heights, Huntington Park, Bell Gardens, East L.A/Whittier blvd, Van Nyus. And, sadly, now, once beautiful neighborhoods like Whittier, Downey, Pico Rivera, and West Covina are going down the same path.

Know what pisses me off? How they come here, then wave Mexican flags and do all their Hispanic pride month bullshit. Listen, i encourage everyone to take a sense of pride in their ethnic roots. But what I hate is when you leave your place of heritage to come to another civilization, then refuse to assimilate, and even actively push back against the people who were kind enough to take you in. Then complain you don't get enough, you want more, then go so far as to shit on white people as a whole. They leave their people behind, their nation, their way of life which obviously led to creating a society which is so fucking bad you abandon it instead of fixing it, then go someplace else and bring all that shit with them and set up little ethnic enclaves in the USA. They don't come here and become Americans. They pick up Mexico, bring it over the border, then set it down. They had no sense of nationalism in Mexico, hence them leaving. They should have stayed and fought for reforms in their homeland. But they left to come to the USA because they wanted more money. They're whores. And the USA is the pimp . Suddenly they arrive, now they feel a great sense of pride and start hanging Mexican flags and saying "brown pride". Pride in what? The place you fled because it's one giant ghetto? They aren't proud to be here. They don't want to be like us. They sell their vote to whatever political party panders the most and offers the most money from the public treasury, and we all know which one that is.
@frauleinhohenzollern6 ай бұрын
I think every ethnic group should have a homeland, a sense of community, a strong national attachment and loyalty etc. And that doesn't mean we all can't respect and get along. But this bullshit of entering another place then just trying to leech the entire time with feelings of resentment toward your host... And we are filling our country with these people. Why? Because Americans who have up to 1965 been 90% from celtic, Anglo, gallic origin, mysteriously began not having babies. So they tell us our birthrates are not enough to replace ourselves. Instead of doing a full scale investigation of this problem, trying to fix and help our families, they begin opening the flood gates to bring in third world people in masses. What a fucking slap to the face. If a country doesn't exist to make it easier for the people who live in it, what's the fucking point of the country in the first place? People have been brainwashed to think that capitalism, democracy, the government, etc are the things that matter. It's the PEOPLE that matter. Those are all just vehicles for helping people. We are the people. Those are all supposed to be means to an end, the end being the welfare and wellbeing of its people. This government, the economy , everything should be designed to serve us. But not anymore. Now it's the people who need to mold to the economy and government. They tell us we would not survive if we don't replace ourselves with Haitians, Africans, south Americans etc. We need them? Why? Why do we need this endless growth? It's healthy that a society reaches a population, the it drops, then plateaus. It's called equilibrium. It's how nature works. But these corporate parasites, these globalist hyenas want to see endless growth. They need more. More labor. More factories. More Amazon warehouses. They dont see the wilderness of Montana as a beautiful landscape to live in harmony with, to preserve and protect. They look and see it as a strip mall. So they bring in 6 million people in just the last 3 years to begin filling in these beautiful once rich areas of wilderness and life.
