Here’s a clip that shows how to change the #safety #valve on a #Prestige #Pressure Cooker.
Safety valves have a fusible alloy at the centre which will melt if the water inside the cooker dries out completely and the stove isn’t turned off after the food has been cooked. In such cases, to prevent a blow out, the fusible alloy melts and the safety valve helps vent the steam escape. If the safety valve has melted, it must be replaced. A replacement valve is cheap and costs Rs. 25-30. Replacement is very simple and requires a pair of pliers and a flat blade screwdriver which almost every household has.

I don't have it at my home at the moment, but it could be Namco. From the 50's. It only has a weighted valve in the centre.

How do you remove the hexagonal part from the safety valve? The new one is put in too tight so I’m not able to remove it like you did by hand.

Hi Rohan, if it is hard for you to remove the hex nut, you may need a hex socket or a ring spanner. I suggest you take it to a utensil shop, they’ll do it.

Is there specific rating for safety valve, like 5ltrs and 3 ltrs safety valves are different?

Hi Anush, there are 2 types of safety plugs for Prestige cookers: 1. The normal version which I have shown in this video. 2. The miniature version. Please check your cooker’s lid to check which plug you would need.

Madam, safety wala mamla hein, please risk math lijiye. Safety valve melt hona hein jab cooker ke andhar steam poora convert ho gaya. Usi company ka lijiye jiska cooker apne liya hein.

Hi Anamika, the fusible alloys used in pressure cooker safety valves are typically composed of non-toxic materials. Common alloys include combinations of bismuth, lead, tin, and cadmium. Manufacturers design these alloys to melt at specific temperatures suitable for pressure cooker safety applications. When properly used, the small amounts released during melting are considered safe.
