What's the best piece gear you have found in the trash? I found my Korg Micropreset in the trash right around my block! Couldn't believe it. Just needed a little TLC as usual.

I once found an old Casio keyboard but, stupidly, I didn't immediately grab it and it was gone when I returned. Mind you, I work for an AV company so I have access to heaps of binned stuff. I regularly scavenge old XLR connectors, the occasional video-conferencing boundary mic (great for room mics for drums), but the best thing I scored was a 2 x 12U rack which now houses my outboard gear and has my Tascam 388 sitting on top.

i actually found a bassdrum on the street a while back..! i took it to the studio and it sounds like BOOOOM, loads of resonance. i was planning to like clean it up and tune it but it actually sounds so primitive and cool in a way that i just don't want to fuck around with it. I recorded a track with it maybe i'll upload it some time

Yesssss…. He’s gonna Love it! Bought and restored a vintage speedking in the last few weeks cuz I saw yours. It’s so quiet now. Used the old guitar nut trick mixing graphite and petroleum jelly and put it up in the cams bearings and springs. Also got me an 80s Ludwig hi hatstand (with the tube legs) and reworked IT. Also very smooth and quiet now. Fun stuff! Finally broke down and got some lithium grease. Oh well. Had to have spray stuff and everything to get to some of those areas. Friction can be very bad if you’re not wanting it. Ha Ha! Not what she said, just true. 😂 Thanks for the video, Mario! I’ve read that the key to 6 lug snares is very thick hoops to help share the tension. Tell your Buddy if he has trouble to go to 2.3mm at least. Talk later, Broseph…
@Mario_DiSanto
@Mario_DiSanto Жыл бұрын
Can't go wrong with a speed king! If I see one for a reasonable price I can't help myself. The graphite trick is a good idea I've never tried that with a S.K. though. The restoration for my new one is going to be a breeze compared to my old one. The heel hinge is still in great condition on the new one so I avoid having to assess that region. Last time I had to ask the guy around my block to use his machining mill to drill outa new hinge point (that mighta been overkill lol), I had to weld some shizz too...TOO MUCH WORK. But the repair will probably last a few decades anyway. Cheers
@BadChizzle
@BadChizzle Жыл бұрын
@@Mario_DiSanto My heel hinge points, though a little worn, are “good enough” in its current state, so I got lucky. Not moving around or anything, though the holes are a little enlarged, no slop back there. Did lube the things like mad though. But man, you shoulda seen the smootz I cleaned outa the spring cylinders! Wow!! Now I’m just guessing, but that might have been why it didn’t wanna spring back at all. Now it’s springy, though! Bam! DIY Bros, making stuff work again. Yeah!! Talk later, Chuk

Nice salvage job on the snare. The only thing I've ever found on the side of the road was a 70's Sansui 880 receiver which I was stoked on. Nice Gretsch leaning up near the drum kit. I'm a Gretsch fan boy myself.
