Super detailed and easy to follow video, thank you! question, i thought noggins (sic) were supposed to be offset height for maximum lateral strength? is that not required here?

This has been super helpful. What do you do with the brick pillar? I cant really tell from the vid. Did you put a DPM in front of it? its hard to tell

Very informative video especially as I’m just about to board out my double brick built garage to turn into a workshop. I have a question, I watched a couple of people do these, some people put the vapour barrier behind the studs so it’s touching the original wall, but I watched a video yesterday where the guy put the vapour barrier on the other side, in other words he put it on the inside. Which is correct? Thanks, Terry 👍🏼

You 100% need to put the VB on the internal side of the insulation, otherwise you are trapping warm, humid air (coming from the interior of the room) inside of the insulation (in this case the PIR boards) which will then eventually cause mold to grow inside of the PIR and cause problems.

Are you using c24 timber for stud work? Also you mentioned weep holes.. Did u create these yourself or were they already there. The side of my garage with the single wall doesn't have weep holes.. finally how do you make the studwork solid if its away from the wall. ?? Tia

Hey - Nice video! 2 questions however... 1. What did you do around the block? Polly sheet and then insulate? 2. Why do you have 2 base plates? Thanks in advance 🙂

Hello! Happy new year. Strange time to be asking this and hope you can reply, but I want to do the same thing on my single skin garage walls, but much less depth. I was going to use a vapour barrier behind the batons, like you have, fill the gaps with Celotex and then plasterboard over. Is this sufficient for a single brick? The vapour barrier should prevent the timber from moisture and also the already protected insulation board. What do you think? Also, what vapour barrier are you using in this video? Thanks again and happy new year chaps!

just a quick one what size "GAP" between the stud wall and the outside wall?
@Coupleofjoiners2 жыл бұрын
It should be 50mm cavity, this is standard practice for current regulation

Hi what size timber did you use for studwork? Was it treated timber or does it not matter? Need to do the same in my garage. Thanks

If you want to use your garage as a living space i’d be getting drawings from an architect who will specify timber sizes, sufficient insulation etc to comply with regulations
