Depending on the design there are suspension parts that need to be UNLOADED when looking for (excessive) play. This "special tool" is not capable of this kind of testing. It's not capable of identifying "all kinds of worn suspension components".

So you told us you set the dial indicator up to measure play in the wrong direction. Then you said the the ball joint had half of the spec in looseness in the incorrect direction. You failed to check the sway bar links and mounts . Then you wanted to "sell" a ball joint based on the questionable readings and faulty measuring setup. I'm thinking the customer wanted the noise fixed and not to be "sold" a ball joint based on a guess. This is how you get young techs in trouble. Sorry but not impressed . Yes I am ASE re certified .

He also used the tool wrong. Mueller Kueps recommends only using it on one wheel assembly at a time, and he measured front to back movement twice with the tool installed in different orientation. 😂 You are supposed to install it vertically under the tire for front-to-back movement and horizontally for in-to-out movement.😂 This industry is going to hell in a hand basket.
