I understood the generator's signal circuit low reference is connected to chassis ground /bat negative of the car. To make this somehow work the generator itself is power and ground fed thru the scanner by the car's electrical system?

QUESTION: A few weeks ago I got my F250 stuck in mud. I had to pull the 4 wheel drive knob out to lock in all 4 tires and put the pedal to the medal in order to go no more that 2 mph. This took about 5 minutes. Since then I have power steering only when I am driving with the gas pedal being pushed. When I let off the gas I do not have power steering. What is broken ?
