Matt, if I'm not mistaken that bike hook looks like the kind that is designed to hold the bike by the front tire. Put the hook higher on the wall, then position the bike like you are going to try and ride it vertically up the wall. The front tire should fit into the hook while the back tire rests against the wall. I hope this helps. Also, how are you liking the Trusscore so far? I've seen a bunch of commercials for them recently and have been wondering how well it works compared to drywall. I'm considering buying a prefabricated post and beam cabin and finishing it myself and that stuff looks much easier for one person to install than trying to hang drywall alone. Oh, and Merry Christmas to you too. I heard you guys are getting a bit of a cold snap down there in Texas while we are dealing with a snowstorm here in Michigan. Stay warm.

Hey Matt! Here's some basic info on Level 2 EV charging and your future truck in case you haven't looked into it in detail yet: SilveradoEV's supposedly going to have a similar MASSIVE 200kWh battery pack to the HummerEV. With 220V at 50A with an appropriate charger, you'll be putting out 11kW max, meaning a full 0-100% charge would theoretically take roughly 18 hours. But just to be clear, 200kWh is MASSIVE. But I believe the spec for the 14-50 is 50A peak, 40A continuous, so whatever EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment, aka EV Charger) you get should be have the ability to be capped at 40A for safety, which drops you to 8.8kW for charging which brings you up to a theoretical 22.7 hour 0-100% charge time. You can put a lot more money into a higher powered circuit at home, but it's still an AC circuit. You won't be able to reach the super high charge speeds of commercial charging stations (ChargePoint, Electrify America, etc.) that are DC fast charging. At most you'll just shave off a few hours. This is awesome. I recently finished my garage with OSB. Top row I sanded, mud, sanded and painted white (same as ceiling). Bottom row I sanded and polyurethane cleared. Came out awesome! Love being able to mount anything to the wall without anchors.

Honestly I think thats the best way to do it. Cheaper than ply and if you put a hole or it gets mold or rot its a fast and easy replace. Good call on the poly coat.

It would have been cheaper and stronger to just use CDX plywood. Looking at home Depot in my area now, plywood is 7 bucks a sheet more than OSB. Sounds like you put a lot of work into making OSB look nice. But it's still better than any type of sheetrock in a garage or shop setting.

her in northern oklahoma we got down to -7 with -28 deg wind chill . we had just got propane early in the day and our propane regulators froze up (maybe because the tanks were super full) i covered them with tarps and ran little electric heaters under them about 15 min had full flow back but left them on over night. like the pvc wall board ,putting up a all steel building and put 2 in rigid foam panels up since my wife has asthma and didn't think spray on would be good for her ! nice shop!!!!!

HVAC in garage is underrated…I did the same mini split setup when I built my garage 5 years ago and it was worth every penny. I live in the great state of Texas also and no issue cooling, there are days when I am not sure I need the house!

Many people have hot water heaters in the garage. A hybrid (heat pump) water heater will cool and dry the garage. Between that and a window unit, my Florida garage stays cool and dry even in the summer.

On the car charger, that is what we use for our Tesla and a Smart ForTwo ED (their EV). Daughter had a wired charger put in her house that can handle 60A at 220 so it must be wired in for her Tesla. For higher powered chargers wired in is the right way to go but we are doing OK with our plugin chargers.

A standing seam metal roof is your answer. S-5! makes zero-penetration-attachments that are basically c-clamps for the seams. That said a good installer will have no problem getting a good seal on most roof types.

In my house we have a 600 sq ft garage with an epoxy floor and cement/stucco finished walls. R-11 injection foam door and insulated ceiling. I installed a 2 ton LG mini split with my wife in there. The reason for a 2 ton is that when it is 90+ and high humidity and I pull in a hot car, then the room can hold 75 degrees still. It's so awesome and a game changer. This one I chose has a minimum BTU of 3,000. So, it will gently run at a very low btu most of the time until recovery is needed and it can peak at 30k btu. It works amazingly well. Since it can run at such a low btu, it still keeps the humidity low enough with fan set to low along with the heat pump water heater, which is 4,400 btu if it turns on.

From what I have been watching on Uribe appears that vast majority of homes are installing type 2 EV charges on a 50 amp AFCI/GFI two pole 50 amp circuit breaker. One company make a charger that you need a card or some thing on your cell phone to turn charger on.Hope the ceiling luminare in the garage are sealed so not to allow fumes from car exhaust to migrate to upper floor.

I just put in a metal shed 12x12. I did a radiant barrier eps foam sealed with foam followed by blown in cellulose in the walls. Then, a cheap window A/C with humidistat so our stuff won't get rusted or ruined. It hold humidity very well and the temperature changes very slowly over like 6 hours even with modest insulation. The walls on it used to get 132 degrees in the sun!!! Anyway, your nice little shed had started my thinking on mine.

Merry Christmas! We finished our garage, plus built a heated shop so we can park both vehicles in the garage. Dehumidifier runs hard in the garage in the winter, keep heated to 60. Based on crime, and comfort when leaving, cars are always inside. Currently, garage and shop are resistance heated, so bills are higher than heating the house. Slowly planning to change that with heat pumps.

The system you used in the shed is one of the touches I plan on using when we can build our house. Here in NY I'm planning a sub grade level that will be 3 bay garage and living space. Going to be using ICF for both floor walls,maybe lite deck for the whole first floor but budget will probably changer that to floor trusses, with roof trusses stopping at the wall, condition space and we'll the way the roof is in your place is my plan. Spend it now seal it well evr make up air both humidifier and dehumidifier, warm board floors, wet bathrooms with walk in showers. Budget willing!

Hey Matt @buildshow...Thanks for the video. Regarding future proofing your electrical, you might consider on the next project, running a conduit from your panel to the receptacles which is really helpful with future modifications. In my shop I just built, I ran conduits to major areas including in floor receptacles, with pull boxes where needed. I'm sure you would agree, garage and shop requirements change from time to time...new tools etc. and flexibility is good!

Regarding the hooks falling off the Wall Control pegboard.. you might checkout Omniwall Pegboards. They use tabs that secure the tool hook accessories in place. Call me crazy, but I have a shed 2x4 walls silicone caulked the smart sheathing in all the bays studs, with roxul r15 and 1/2 hard foam board with taped seams. Over that 3/8 ply screwed to the studs with deck screws. I built 3/4 plywood doors with 11/2 foam board insulated. My only regret is not insulating tbe floor. I live in NY at the tri-state boarder. I have a chinese diesel heater that is great on the cold days. This will be how I build a future garage, except the exterior walls will have the foam board under the smart siding.

Would you not be concerned about condensation between the shed PVC slat wall and the wood studs. If the air temperature reached the dewpoint, I would think the backside with condensate and drip between the walls? Also, I would love to know the brand of thermal camera you are using and model.

Hey there! In typical moisture and temperature conditions, the cavity between the structure and Trusscore does not produce enough moisture to be of concern to the lumber. Our products have been installed in sheds where exterior conditions range from -20C to 30C over the seasons without negatively impacting the structure

I have a 3 car garage, the ceiling is 5/8” drywall and the back wall and partial side wall is also 5/8” drywall. The builder would do the rest in drywall, but would not insulate, so I did not opt for the drywall (cost was $195). I actually insulated it and installed 1/2” plywood ($5..00 a sheet vs. $1.50 for the drywall, only on the parts that are not drywalled. It’s been 20 years since I have done this and (I did primer and paint originally) I must say that it still looks pretty good. If I would have to do it again, I would do it the same way. My daughter lives down the street and we di their garage as well. We don’t have the walls going to the floor because of separate foundation walls and a floating slab (basement home) so our walls have a 6” curb on three sides. I do have a 50 amp sub panel in the garage for a welder and 2 frost proof outlets for hot and cold water on the back wall. Thanks….

In my area for years only used 5/8" guess fire rated sheetrock on ceilings & walls of attached garages. A friend had trouble getting a solid 2&1/8" thick wood door approved for 36" wide garage door that lead into his house. They wanted him to use a steel door. At a tool & die shop with sprinklers they made them use fire rated plywood ( and not paint over the labels ) on cement block walks they used to hang stuff.

For your garage you were talking about fire resistance. Have you ever considered or done installing sprinkler heads? For that matter, how about installing sprinkler heads throughout the house? Studies have shown that 1) Sprinklers can really knock a fire down and save the rest of the structure and 2) they can give the occupants a lot more time to get out. I would think that in the overall cost of building a house and running plumbing throughout, the cost of running one more pipe to each room would not be that great.

Matt, rather than using hot glue you could use "Shoe Goop" to hold those hooks to the wall control panels. It probably would be quite a bit stronger even if you only had 3/8ths ply behind it, even so I'm not sure if I'd risk hanging anything heavy on the PVC "french cleat" wall, not like you could if it was made from wood or metal. I do like the flat panels, but I suspect it would have been a bit cheaper to have cut down some 4x8 FRP/composite sheets to make the lower walls.

Test your outlets with a volt meter, many people say 110 & 220 volts but you will probably find 123 & 246 volts.

Outlets have been a nominal 120/240 since 1967. They should not be off by more than +\- 5%, so a range of between around 115-125, but usually right around 120.

Great video! This just reminds me that I really need to gut my garage and insulate it. We're showing 8 degrees Fahrenheit right now, and I guarantee the garage is below freezing by a good margin. I suspect a good percentage of heat loss is through the adjoining wall to the house.

Are you saying that the wall between your home and garage is uninsulated? Otherwise there shouldn’t be any more or less heat loss between the house and an unconditioned garage than there is between a typical exterior wall. Less really, since even though the garage isn’t conditioned it’s still a bit of a buffer.

@@JimYeats Pretty much. The house was built sometime in the late 1800's to early 1900's. The garage was an addition with a basement underneath it. It was renovated most recently about 2010's from what we can tell. Lots of questionable decisions made. We're slowly fixing those that we can.

Metal pegboard is much better than regular pegboard (which I used to have, and grew to hate with a passion). I would take a French cleat wall any day over it. Everything is easier when you can just mount it on a cleat and move it wherever you want.

I was thinking of plywood over rigid foam insulation for my basement walls. 1908 house with concrete block foundation. Figure I should waterproof first and then idk if I should go with some studs on top of the insulation or if it’s cheaper to go with the insulation systems that have the strapping included in to hang the plywood. Love the garage but the shed seems unfunctional. Maybe im just a trashy blue collar guy but if it was me id just hang 1/2inch OSB in there. Its easy to replace, relatively cheap and you can hang light stuff anywhere and if you hit studs or mount a 1" or 2" board across studs you can hang anything. Like the sheets and PVC looks cute but as a working man with tools and toys idk how long id be happy with that. Ill wait for an update on this but I expect a lot of holes, scuffs and cracks in the shed. Actual garage is perfect id probably want it a little bigger but I understand thats the reason for the shed

Congratulations, by mounting an AC system in your garage, you will soon find your appraisal district will start counting it as air conditioned space and increase your appraisal over state increase limit. And, they are using all sorts of tech to find victims for this. A good video subject might be a look into portable solutions for temperature control which will allow people to successfully contest the appraisal increase (assuming you read the comments, ahem).

Don’t worry. 220/50 is plenty for a home charger. That’s 11kW, say 10kW to be conservative. You will be charging for long periods, like 12 hours, so you can fill a 120kWh battery no problem.

I like the idea of Trusscore, but I wish they had made it out of a different material, like fiberglass or a composite. Extruded aluminum slats also seems like a good alternative, but would probably be prohibitively expensive. PVC is just too flammable for me to feel comfortable using it in a place where I might be using tools that create flames or sparks, especially with how toxic the smoke from PVC is.

Yo first, Merry Christmas! If you are interested in the Silverado you will likely need a bigger circuit; I have a Rivian and it's a 60A circuit on a dedicated wall charger. That being said DO NOT upgrade it until you get more information. It's very likely Chevy will do something like the F-150 lightning with battery backup. They'll also specify the wall power necessary prior to delivery (sometimes up to a 100A line!).

Matt, Merry Christmas Brother! Sweet Garage! A Question regarding the PVC system... will that product allow Mold growth??? If my shed is tight and no Dehumidifier, though a heater for winter, will mold grow in humid summer? Cheers, Eric Luke 2:8-20

Normally on your bike hooks I noticed that they hang them upside down and use the tires as your holder handlebar so it will still be sticking out so maybe next to the door so when you walk in you won't hit them just saying
